I'm Siobhan and I'm totally blind.
Bear with me on this one and bear with the audio. I don't find this easy to talk about as you'll understand but I am often asked how I went blind.
This is unedited and I just decided to do it one evening in my living room.
Normally I'd ask people to subscribe and like, but this video is as much for me as everyone else.

I just want to give you a huge hug. Thankyou for sharing your story. I can't imagine how painful this was for you to film. I follow Molly Bourke who is blind on RU-vid and she really makes it seem like life's so easy being visually impaired, I think people need to hear your story. You're brutally honest, I can still feel your fear. I lost my hearing 9 yrs ago and all I can say is I think you're amazing. Im 44 yrs old and im sharing your channel to help others. Bless you honey. Much love from Australia 💛. Bree xx

Bree Phoenix you are just so sweet and it’s honestly so lovely to have you here. In terms of telling my story, I think it’s important to be authentic and honest because hopefully it will help other people who may be going through the same thing. Having a supportive network around you definitely assists which is why you may think mollie makes it being visually impaired look easy. :-). Her mum is just so adorable and having a helping hand does make things a lot easier, I must admit. I want people to see the real side of me, and yes there are going to be some very tough videos I need to make but equally this channel hopefully will bring a lot of positivity and hope. Thank you so much for sharing my channel and my journey with vision loss. Oh my goodness, you’ve been through a similar process, because having hearing and then losing it and going through grief and frustration must be the same sort of emotions. Bless you though, sending you massive hugs to. Xx

@@BlindGirlVlogs well I was misdiagnosed with pre leukemia and myelodysplssia approximately 9 years ago. I was given 2 years to live and could not find a bone marrow donor. I was told I needed a bone marrow aspiration and blood transfusions as I was anaemic. After the bone aspiration i noticed my hearing in my left ear was changing and then I just couldn't hear out of my left ear at all so this doctor wanted me to undergo another bone marrow aspiration and I woke up deaf in both ears, I'm now bilaterally deaf. I have never cried, I never became angry though as I have always thought things could be so much worse, like I could have actually had pre leukemia and myelodysplssia and I didn't. People always ask if I'm angry and I'm honestly not. I have had cochlear implant surgery but to be honest I love the silence now. I can turn my sound processor on or off. My depression and anxiety have left me since losing my hearing. The lord works in mysterious ways. My sister who is 7 years older than me never visited once or sent a text when my mother told her I was now deaf (bilaterallydeaf). My friends or so called friends disappeared and my fiance of 13 yrs walked away with no goodbye. My dad always taught me to be independent as he said at times no one will be there for you as people can be extremely selfish, so I grew up extremely independent. I love my own company and I'm not a needy person that needs other's to keep me entertained. I'm in Australia and off to bed but shall keep you in my prayers beautiful. You have such an amazing smile.

Bree Phoenix wow, thank you so much for sharing such a personal journey of yours. You really are an incredible person. Many people would have been angry and said why me but you have obviously taking it all in your stride and got on with your life. You are an inspiration to many because you could have withdrawn into yourself and become a very unhappy and angry person about all of the things you have been through. You are so right though, the Lord does work in mysterious ways and through being very independent it really has helped you here. I believe independence is so liberating. I don’t need people all around me to live, yes it’s nice to see friends and family but equally I feel I’m quite independent when it comes to doing things. I love to travel, I love to do all the things other people do and often take for granted. You sound such a beautiful person inside and out. Have a wonderful rest and chat to you soon. 😍😇. Xx

From perfect vision? The title is misleading, but, I'm losing my sight and getting close to totally blind and wondering how others have coped. Thank you for making this video.

Firstly, thank you for commenting and I'm really sorry to hear about your site loss journey. Please do reach out because if I can assist or helping anyway, I would really like to. In terms of the title, it's hard to fit within a few characters, but I did have some vision, but it's trying to encapsulate everything in such a limited character count.

@@BlindGirlVlogs Hi, I have RP and macula dystrophy. I have been slowly losing my sight for years, but recently, it has deteriorated faster and is now getting to the stage I am worried it will completely disappear. I was told years ago that nothing can be done and they have no idea if it will totally disappear. It seems like it is doing. The worst part is I know what I am missing. I know I should think myself lucky for all the years of sight I have had compared to many like yourself. I'm starting to learn the piano in order to give myself something to do that I will never fully master and keep me occupied. Stevie Wonder watch out!

Isabel Moore thank you so much for your comment and sharing your site loss journey, it’s always difficult talking about such things I think personally. Depends on someone’s journey and how recently they have been diagnosed but I think when you are faced with any impairment or disability, it makes you stronger as a person. I truly believe that.

Thank you for sharing your story. It reminds me of the autobiography of Sabriye Tenberken, "My Path leads to Tibet" which I would highly recommend reading, if you can get it in accessible format. She also only really flourished when she went to a school for the blind at age 12.

I wonder why blindness often sets in when someone is asleep. Years ago I remember (it was a late-night radio dating programme) a lady called in who was blind, and the presenter asked her how she went blind and she said she fell off her bike at age 13; she had a delayed reaction and went to bed able to see and woke up the next morning blind. Another lady was punched in the face by her violent ex-husband (who had already blinded her in one eye the same way, but whom she remained friends with and helped him decorate his flat) and woke up blind the next morning. Then there was the woman I read about who lost her sight suddenly one evening, got it back a few minutes later then went to sleep and woke up blind and has been ever since. I often wondered about the first lady; this was around 1992, she sounded like she was in her 40s and so this was the age when no blind children were in mainstream schools, so she'd have lost her life as she knew it in one night. It must have been devastating.
