How I make a pallet for freight shipping an industrial sewing machine. I have received machines that were far too broken to be usable anymore due to the damage that they incurred during shipping. It is heart breaking. I know that shippers have a job to do and I appreciate it. It is my experience that the damage received was more the result of improper packaging. I hope that this helps others to realize and employ better shipping methods and to understand what I do for my customers so that they are happy when they receive their machine.
Shipping and Handling will test and find any weakness in your packaging so it is best to go into a project like this with that in mind. Expect the unexpected and prepare for worst case scenarios, rough handling, rough roads, constant vibration, careless fork lift drivers, weather.
I try to use old, used, warped or otherwise reduced cost materials when I can. One way to get cheaper lumber is to buy cull lumber from the store. It is usually a package deal sort of thing. These materials are still strong and I never use rotten materials but these categories of materials still have good value especially for pallets and crates as you don't need them to look good to be good.

That crate made it all the way to Hillsboro Oregon in excellent condition. Just as you planned, I used a driver drill to remove the screws to remove the box. Then moved it close to the house and removed the lag bolts holding the machine to the pallet. It's almost ready to run. Just to level it a bit better and get some lights set up. Thank you very much for the machine and for doing a great job shipping it to me.

My buddy works as the shipper / receiver for a small matching company.. this is what he does all the time and he agrees that you’re doing it right! Anyone that offers free shipping, is putting extra into the price of whatever they are selling, cuz this kind of effort is not free! Well done!

the price of wood alone wouldve been like 50-100 depending if you had some scraps laying around or not. and then the price of shipping added onto that. wow.

I always appreciate the amount of thought and work you put into your projects. I spent 4 hours palletizing a commercial embroidery machine with straps, screws and shrink wrap, to ensure it got to its destination in the same condition as it left me. So I can appreciate the amount of work you had into this.

Such care in your shipment! We couldn’t even get the military movers to make a simple crate for my Juki 8700. They just wrapped it in a blanket and cling wrap. Thankfully it made it safely across the country, but we have to do it again in a couple months.

Well, I don't know what you charge to ship your machines, but whatever it is, it's well worth it. If I ever buy an industrial sewing machine, I'm getting it from you.

Love your videos man. I jsut want to point out to anyone watching this. You can find recycled pallets anywhere, I wouldn’t waste good wood on a pallet. ITs probably more cost efficient and environmentally friendly just to repurpose an old pallet

You can also use polyester strapping with stainless steel seals to anchor down your machine head and table top without the need of a whole wooden labyrinth. I’ve bought from auctions many times around the country and that is what they use!

Not all pallets are the same quality and most are not sturdy enough to support a load like this without some sort of modification. I don't view this as a 'waste' but rather a value added premium service to my customers. I am glad you are satisfied with the auction houses.

It's secure, but I would hate to have to be the one to undue his great work! My Industrial Machine came on a pallet that just had screw bolts connecting the pallet to the bottom of the machine table! I had to go back in my house to get tools when it arrived! Then my Sewing machine was not tied down & On Industrials the machine head (the whole sewing machine) lifts, so I see my machine head flying backwards, yes I caught it before it would have hit hard & Possibly broke🤦🏽‍♀️! I also had to go back in the house to get some rope to tie the head down! & They only deliver to your curb off the truck, unless you request inside delivery (not sure if they do that), but a hefty fee $100 like w/bedding🤷🏽‍♀️! Have 1 or 2 people there to help, just in case! *******Ask how your machine is being freighted so you are prepared! Then the idiot didn't even have a ramp on the semi truck🤦🏽‍♀️! Luckily, some (men) neighbors were home & helped! We had to physically lower each machine(2) off the truck, Surger & Straight Stitch! Each machine weighs 150 pounds!😱!;)PEACE

how much does it cost to ship something of this size and weight? is that cost added onto the price of the machine or does it come out of your profit? ive always wondered these things when it comes to shipping industrial machines. very well done as always.

I use uShip for shipping quotes. I basically absorb the hours and cost of the build but I try let my customers know that this service is premium and part of the deal I am offering. I have done it as "free shipping" and/or "plus flat rate shipping". Either way

That is tricky since I sell sporadically and usually just one at a time. Follow me on Instagram since I try to find a buyer there first, then here on RU-vid and then Kansas City craigslist and finally eBay.

I am buying a new Industrial machine. I need to get rid of an older Singer 211g. It worked when I went to look at it but when I brought it home the belt doesn’t grab. It makes a loud shrill noise. I need to get rid of it but don’t know how. I live in the San Diego, CA area.
@AlexanderDyer

Probably need to tighten the belt. There is an adjustment on the motor. A threaded rod with a couple of locating nuts.

Those stringers look wider than a 2x4. Do you remember what you used?
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 10 месяцев назад
I use what I have mostly. Not sure what part is the stringer.
@patrickmerriman2952
@patrickmerriman2952 10 месяцев назад
The stringer is the cross beams with the fork notches. Thanks!
@AlexanderDyer
@AlexanderDyer 10 месяцев назад
2x4 is about right for those and I cut out the notches an inch deep. This gives enough room for the forks You might need to consider the amount of weight you are putting on the pallet but for this load it is adequate.
