Fan theory: Alex is actually a cat youtuber but his cat channel never took off so he started a reptile channel instead, and is now slowly turning the reptile channel into a cat channel. And he almost got away with it, too!
can you make a (NEW)video on ball pythons, and go into specifics on how you keep your humidity up? I am very confused on if you should mist their enclosure or if the coconut fiber with a little bit of moss and water will do the trick on its own. thank you and keep up the great work, i love your videos!!!
me neither. I have dogs (love cats too, i just can't have any rn) and I had to look away when alex was showing the meat up close lmao. enjoyable tho bc cat
05:11 After seeing you pour the salt on the scale tray, I thought you were going to pour the water directly on the tray, too. I thought, wow, how is he going to measure THAT accurately?
YOU JUST BECAME MY FAVORITE CHANNEL. Funny ✔️ Helpful accurate reptile information ✔️ Cats ✔️ Feeding a raw diet ✔️ ACTUALLY FEEDING A ***BALANCED*** RAW DIET AND NOT RANDOM CRAP THROWN TOGETHER 💯💯💯💯💯❗❗
I've been raw feeding after my elder cat had a medical emergency that ended up with half his face paralyzed. I've been using bonemeal instead of bones cause I couldn't find a grinder I trusted, so thank you thank you for sharing yours!
@@leticianedilskyj7060 you can buy animal grade bone powder on amazon, i uses buck bone organics right now for my dog as an additional supplement for my dog who is partial raw
From the midst of Cut Throat Kitchen, Beat Bobby Flay and Chopped, one cooking channel emerged.... GoHerping’s Cooking SHow. Staring: Alex and his three cats. Coming soon to a theatre near you
Another thing, if you want to make or buy any kind of raw food for your cat make sure they are *negative* for FIV and FeLV. Both disorders lower the immune system and any kind of bacteria in the raw meat can cause your cat to get sick.
Just wanted to let you know that you can buy psyllium husks in bulk and it's much cheaper and easier than opening all those little capsules. Where I live there is a store called Bulk Barn and you can psyllium husks there. I'm sure there would be a store by you that sells it. That also ensures you are getting pure psyllium husks. Thanks for the video!
you can also buy the husk powder on amazon, it's used in vegan, and gluten free foods as a binder sometimes so it's cheap to buy powdered, we use it for cooking as well as on occasion for our dogs.
I may or may not have been a ferret “hoarder” at one point and I fed them a raw diet I also fed my dogs a raw diet but I used a company, they delivered it frozen and pre packaged. I noticed a difference in their 💩 right away
Interested in what dog food company you used if you're still around. I can't find a reasonably priced premade one, and I don't trust myself enough yet to make it myself. I don't expect it to be cheap but I shouldn't be spending more on dog food than my human family's grocery bill.
@@kudzu_ It was 2016/17 and I don’t really remember. I think it was a commercial on tv. It was 99$ to 120$ a month. I had a large German Shepard. They sent it on dry ice, it was individual packs. You take it out the night before to thaw.
@@kudzu_ you could always do partial raw, my dog gets half a cup of raw food per day, on the side of his 2-2 1/2 cups of kibble (depending on activity) he's 68lbs and the vet is always very impressed with his blood work and health. as for reasonable raw brand, i fed instinct raw (frozen) for quite a while before we moved and i took a course and started doing my own mixes at home, it isnt the highest quality (it's high pressure pasteurized which most raw people are against) but it's easy to thaw, easy to feed and my dog loved it, i still used their freeze dried toppers as treats.
I’ve been researching switching my cats over and I’m glad you made a video. I’ll try this recipe out for sure. You should make a video on how you switched him over.
Great video! It’s really lovely to see more people choosing to feed their cats a biologically appropriate diet. I’ve fed raw for several years now, and my cats absolutely thrive on it. We’ve had periods of time when we’ve not been able to feed raw due to my health problems, and we’ve seen significant changes in their behaviour and their general health. The most important thing if anyone is feeding raw is to ensure that the recipe is 80% meat (includes heart and connective tissue) 10% bone, 5% liver and 5% another secreting organ like kidney. This will give the right nutrient balance to keep them healthy. Never give more than 5% liver, as excess vitamin A can cause serious health problems. You can judge the amount of bone your cat needs by looking at their poop, which should be dryish but hold together, and should be brown. If it looks chalky and crumbly, there’s too much bone, and that can cause constipation. If you feed a good mix of meats you really don’t need to add vitamins. I add a little fish oil (for fatty acids that they would normally get from brains and eyes) and one egg per kilo, but otherwise don’t add any extras. I mix ground chicken with bone, beef, lamb heart, poultry hearts, ox heart, and either ox or pig kidney. That gives plenty of taurine and a good mix of nutrients. All easy to get from my local supermarket or butcher here in the U.K. We also feed whole prey, usually day old chicks, and they love those. They’re a byproduct from the egg laying industry (which is a whole other discussion) and are super cheap. They’re a little bone heavy so you need to balance that in the rest of their food if you do choose to feed chicks. The only thing I’d say is keep your cats contained somewhere easy to clean when they’re eating, because chick guts will stain your living room rug. Ask me how I know :-D It might seem a bit daunting for some people but it’s really pretty easy, and once you get used to it it’s not much more work. We have 4 cats and do a batch once every 4-6 weeks, and it only takes a couple of hours. Totally worth it.
I have 4 boys all on raw food I cheat and use a completion powder with eggshell calcium since one of my boys is a bit older and I am a little concerned with phosphorus. But it literally saved the actual life of one of my cats and the longetivity and happiness of another
This was suggested to me. I already make this recipe for my cats but I love watching others for best practices. I'm very happy to see a young, well informed cat guardian. I know how much work goes into preparing a bulk batch & applaud you for taking the steps to give the best diet for your cats.
Love seeing raw feeders! Switched my dog over when he was refusing all types of kibble and now for the last 2.5 years he eats a pound of raw every day. I also have fed my 1 year old cat raw since 6weeks. I notice in both dogs and cats raw has helped with decreasing shedding, hydrating them and in general are healthier than when on kibble. Kibble contains only 14% of moisture that they require daily. Working with animals i notice kibble fed dogs are generally overweight, have rotting teeth (from all the sugars), have dry skin, shed more and are generally not as physically healthy. Not saying this goes for all kibble fed pets though. Dogs aren't meant to be digesting so much sugar everyday and are constantly in a state of dehydration and thats when health problems start. The first thing i noticed immediatly when i switched was my dogs coat was shinier and healthier, less shedding and no more dandruff. Another great thing is the dog poop actually decomposes which makes me wonder what all the preservatives in kibble that makes the poop last 1+ year do to the body. Something about that just doesn't seem right.
I dont have a reptile yet I watch all kind of reptile care videos. I just like them. I've got a really fat cat but he's really picky about food and likes the one I give him. I just like watching your videos
@Feyza MAVİKURT I've heard of people cooking the chicken before grinding it, but my cats eat it totally raw. My only concern about the boiled would be not enough moisture content in it. You want to make sure there is plenty of water mixed into it. My mom used to cook hers for her cats because they would vomit otherwise. She added in the raw slowly till they got used to it. They did fine on the half raw. Kittens do great on it, they need the protein. We freeze it in ziplock snack bags and thaw one day worth at a time, feeding twice a day.
@Feyza Don't cook the food period. Just feed the cats the raw food once it's all grinded up. My cats can't eat whole food so I have to grind everything up. Been healthy cats on a raw diet for two years. Weight healthy, more energy, can't smell their litter boxes when they go to the bathroom, more moisture in the food. Just make sure you kind of stay away from beef. My cats did not like it at all. I stick with Chicken, turkey, duck, rabbit, lamb and goose. Chicken should be the main part of the diet. Don't forget the organs but not too much of the organs. But you will need chicken hearts.
This is seriously like my fav video you've made and I dont even have a cat 😂 can you do a version of this with like a Blue tounge skinks diet or beardie diet or something? The kitchen is aesthetic asf and it's just so relaxing.
Suggestion: use discarded meat on bones by boiling down to make a broth. I use broth like a treat to add moisture to my cats diet. Can put in the ice cube trays for portioning. If kitty doesn't like it, make soup for yourself or freeze broth in bags for other cooking recipes. Great video! I was looking into raw diet for my kitty. Let's just say I don't spend that kind of money for my two legged pets. Much appreciated!
This was such a thorough, in depth video. I would have a question and then you'd answer it like 2 seconds later! I adopted a kitten about 5 months back now and I also have a senior cat. the kitten was feral and has a stomach of steel (literally eats EVERYTHING) So i may just switch her to this! This was an awesome video! You clearly love your cats so much, and it's so wonderful to see!
To help with water consumption, I highly recommend a running water fountain. It takes some cats a bit to get used to it, but I've found they tend to drink more from it than a regular bowl. I definitely agree with doing your own research when it comes to foods for your pets, but supplementing that with your Vet's advice never hurts. While I don't use raw for my cats, I do stick with higher end dry foods that don't have filler in them and contain actual meats. Granted, I have a 20 year old calico that's lived off Meow Mix her entire life, but I still believe higher quality foods are better in the long run.
TheAmazingKudzu Vets r taught nothing about pet nutrition n school. Also, high end dry (Blue Buffalo) nearly killed my male with bladder crystals. The ER vets said he sees alot of cats sick on that food. Dont trust it just bcuz it's high end or prescription. Do the research ur self & pick apart any ingredients list with a fine tooth. My male had brite eyes & a stunning coat but his badder crystals cost me a small fortune & the prescription food did not contain the problem ingredients but it was garbage food.
@@animeaunty With almost 20 years experience with cats, I think I know what I'm talking about and have done my research. I'm sorry you had issues with higher end foods, but when giving those foods, especially dry, it is important to understand they have higher protein content meaning the animal needs more fluids too because they can be harder on the kidneys. Feeding a mix of wet/dry can help along with my suggestion of a water fountain. Also, it is never okay to make blanket statements. Just because you had a bad experience with foods/vets doesn't mean it won't work or help someone else.
TheAmazingKudzu Never stated it wouldn't work. If u will reread it, it said do ur own research & pick apart the ingredients list. I'm almost 50 & have learned a little about keeping my 100+ life time of cats alive & healthy. Go to a forum site & keyword Blue Buffalo. It's not the protein content, it's the magnesium.
@@animeaunty No, I'll agree you never stated it wouldn't work, but saying something nearly killed your cat does infer that you don't think it will. I'm not saying go out and buy a food without researching, because goodness knows I've read a ton of reviews and ingredients lists before switching mine over. What I am saying is that higher end foods (not necessarily BB, but still a decent option) are generally going to be better for your cat with adequate fluid options available to them. What works for one cat may not work for all, hence why I have a 20 year old that thrives on Meow Mix and Fancy Feast (God knows what crap that stuff is). As for this conversation, I stand by my original post. I'm sorry you had a bad outcome, but that's life. Not everything goes as planned.
TheAmazingKudzu Ha, me too. My 18 yr old grande dame, Mouse, eats gentle stomach Chow mixed with purple Fancy Feast + Friskies pate. When I want thru the Struvite crystals episode & was prescribed that expensive food, I found the only thing special about it was a lack of magnesium. After research I found out that Friskies wet made the same formula. Friskies Special Diet. Whoda thunk. That whole episode made me learn that what vets r taught about nutrition is sponsored by the big companies that sell cat food, biased much? I'm also working on a cat water device that keeps the surface rippling without a pump, or need for power. Hope it works!
This was my first video I saw from you. I started watching your other videos and I like your channel and subscribed. I have zero reptiles and don’t plan on having reptiles but I like your sense of humor and appreciate your knowledge.
spoiled cats are happy cats, he looks great! on another note for people who might be curious: calcium phosphorous and magnesium are in bone, they also need manganese which can be found in fur and feathers (i always try to get a couple bags of whole prey grind for my dog when i do a raw feeding miami bulk order) highly recommend taking the course by dogs naturally magazine on raw feeding for anyone else whose interested in starting raw food, it's not nearly as scary as it sounds but it is complicated and requires care to do properly
@@thecouncilwilldecideyourfate It varies from batch to batch, but I use a limited ingredient dog food and a couple different safe veggies that I chop up and freeze together in ice cube trays. Obviously, do as much research as you can before getting a bluey, but there are great websites and forums out there
Did he say that he thaws out and refreezes those chicken livers multiple times? But he rinses off the chicken thighs because he’s concerned about bacteria 🤦🏻♀️ he did say he doesn’t really cook, so I guess that explains it lol. And I still love the video though so 🤷🏻♀️
I've got a rescue dog with a a bunch of allergies for poultry, egg and wheat, and he's been on raw food diet for nearly two years. Absolutely no poop problems, no indigestion and astronomically lusher fur than any other dog I have had or worked with before. So I'd say it's definitely worth the trouble. Especially when you start researching what goes into the cheaper ready to eat animal foods.
Honestly so fucking glad to see this as a fellow cat owner (albeit a fairly new one)! I rescued a 6 week old kitten now about a month and a half ago, and being interested in cat/pet nutrition even before I got him I always knew that if I ever got a pet I'd try to feed it a species/biologically appropriate diet. Feline Nutrition is a fantastic resource. It only makes sense that as obligate carnivores, cats don't need all those carbs and grains and vegetables and fillers that make up such a large majority of pet food on the market. When went to the pet store for the first time I was actually blown away reading the ingredients of some of them. The amount of artificial flavourings, additives and preservatives on top of the low % of quality meat protein in a MAJORITY of pet food actually boggled my mind. What in the fuck are "animal derivatives" and "various poultry meal" supposed to be lol And the packaging is so full of BS about how healthy the food is. Cats especially are closer to their 'wild' ancestry than dogs are, seeing as we've only been domesticating them in the last few thousand years compared to dogs. They can SURVIVE with subpar food (unlike other species like snakes for example, which need much more specific requirements to be met), but they THRIVE on biologically/species appropriate food - which is meat, preferably raw. There's a reason they were domesticated for being good mousers/rodent hunters - because the mice/rodents ate the grain which the cats DIDN'T EAT. Now that I've been feeding my kitten raw food (he's fully weaned now), his stool is so much healthier than it was before - on a standard wet canned food diet (I've never fed him dry) his stool was still partially wet/soft. Now he has normal poop that doesn't stink (as he isn't passing out all those fillers/grains), and he seems much happier/more energetic. Currently I'm feeding a commercial raw diet which is locally produced and therefore cheaper. Probably gonna stick with it and supplement with whole raw chicken wings, etc so he can crunch on bones when he starts teething :)
Feline Lower Urinary Tract Diseases (FLUTD) scares me the most for my cats to develop in the future. So I switched to a raw diet. Going on two years, the best decision I ever did for my cats. I'm happy I can find different meats in my area so I use less vitamins. After doing the food in batches so much, I just eye everything now. I also use fish oil in a pump bottle. So much faster and I don't smell like fish the entire day on my hands. I recommend getting a big butcher knife to cut meat easy, especially whole chickens. If you have a crappy grinder, you will have to cut the meat up even more. So don't go cheap on a grinder. I learned my lesson on this. But Raw diet is the best way for cats. No commercial junk food fillers added because you are making it.
When my husband and I move back to Korea we plan to start our cat on a raw diet because ironically it would be easier as cheaper to make him a raw diet over buying his current food and shipping it to our house lol
I don't have reptiles. I don't have cats. I don't even have a cactus. Not sure how I got to this channel all those months ago, but I never miss a video.
I've been feeding my dogs a raw diet for almost 10 years now. Glad it is gaining more popularity among cat owners too! Buying the meat from raw pet food companies is much cheaper than getting it from the grocery store btw, plus it's already ground up, you just have to add your supplements. They have everything (at least where i live) from entrails to muscle meat, separately or already mixed together. If you have a local butcher and/or food fish breeder, you can also ask them if you can have their waste products for free. Chances are they'll say yes or give it to you for a very small price, since you're basically taking garbage they can't sell off their hands lol. Probably a lot of stuff that reptiles could eat too. I own three large dogs and their raw diet costs only around 80$ a month, including supplements and veggies :) You can also buy psyllium husk in bags on amazon (i.e. 1000g) which is probably cheaper than those capsules you have. Idk how expensive vitamin b complex is, but you can also use brewer's yeast instead, which is super cheap. Just make sure NEVER to give brewer's yeast to a dog or cat with renal issues.
I used to feed this exact recipe to my cats, except rabbit instead of chicken. They did AMAZING on it. One of my picky eaters starved herself for a few days refusing to eat it when we transitioned, but once she gave in she LOVED it. Thank you for the video! I feed them primal now since my freezer and time are smaller, but this was definitely a better option financially.
This video is almost a year old but for anyone looking to feed their pets raw ethnic markets and even chain stores that are more oriented towards that (compare foods is a great example and I get most of the organs and fish there) as well as butcher shops are great places! You can find all the good stuff like chicken feet (great for joints and every dog I've ever met loves them, with a cat you might have to grind it cut them up but still good) beef and chicken hearts, kidney, pancreas, stomachs etc etc as well as having a better selection of fish, often fresh too if you live near a port. Make sure to freeze all fish for at least a week before feeding though
lmfao. i watched the "introducing my cats" video earlier today. and ive legit been wondering off and on what is in this "raw diet" he mentioned. one of my cats would love it i think lol the other not so much and this video is a cool idea. most ppl dont know how to properly feed their pets so this is a cool series to start. good idea!
I’ve finally convinced my mom to let me put the family cat on a raw diet. He’s not picky at all and he’s been chowing his new food for about a month now. His fur is so soft instead of greasy like it used to be, his shits are tiny and they don’t stink, he doesn’t shed a pound of gross fur every day anymore. He’s stopped having asthma attacks and hair balls like he used to. He’s living so much better now, thank you 💕
Organic food actually has a lot less regulations than non-organic, so I'd be cautious about buying ingredients. They tend to be more expensive while also being frozen for longer, shipped from further away, ect.
I fell in love at the disclaimer. Please tell your mother I said "Job well done, thank you." What an extraordinary fellow you are at such a young age. I'm also not a vet but I'm a doctor and a rescuer who specialises in abandoned/orphaned/critically ill or injured cats and kittens. I've been doing a raw diet for my animals for years and I want to help you out a little if I may. I realise this video is 3 years old, but for anyone here in 2023, this is for you too. You don't need all of that. You're making it harder and more expensive doing it this way. All you need outside of food is bone meal unless you have 6 or more cats, then you can use the egg shells. You want a 70% muscle meat/20% organ meat/10% bone matter ratio. Organ meats and dark poultry meats are rich in taurine and lysine when they're raw, so you want chicken/turkey dark meat, livers, gizzards, kidneys, tripe, or chitterlings. All extremely cost effective. Seafood such as salad shrimp, real crab, and shellfish are also high in taurine, but also potentially high in mercury. Muscle meat is chicken, beef, turkey, mutton, venison, etc. I don't use pork but some vets say it's okay. Bone meal can be ordered on Amazon if you have a normal number of cats. I use egg shells because I make 3lb batches and every batch gets a dozen eggs. Bake the shells at 350F for 10 minutes, drop em in a food processor or blender, blend to powder, that's it. You need a stool bulker, (which is why he was using the Metamucil). It takes the place of the fur and cartilage of prey. Best options are brown rice, banana, canned pumpkin (plain, no spices), and Quaker oats. I also throw in two fistfuls of raw baby spinach chopped, or cat grass if I have some at the time for vitamin B. Sardines are an excellent source of vitamin E and cheap cheap at the market, so I use that instead of fish oil. And no salt, no salt, no salt. Salt is toxic to cats in surprisingly small doses, like...1/4 teaspoon small dose. Just leave it out. They don't need it, it's a human thing. Don't put salt in your cat's raw food. If you're lazy like me, you can also order some kitten milk replacer formula in the powder and add that. It's for babies and has double the dose of all those vitamins and nutrients. Sometimes I mix the powder in with the batch, sometimes I make a jar and each cat gets two tablespoons in the dish with their little meat patty on top, sometimes I mix it with a bone broth or fish juice and pour it over top like a gravy. It's pretty 5 star. Also, with the eggs: use the yolks raw like he said, but keep the whites and scramble them in olive oil and either juice from the fish or meat, or blood from the livers. Chop up the scramble and toss them in there as well. Excellent source of extra protein and flavor. My method is not organic, but it IS all-natural and not full of store-bought supplements that could truthfully contain ANYTHING. It's also a LOT cheaper and my cats have never expressed a concern that their food is not organically grown, sustainably sourced, or cruel to animals. They are cats. I don't think they care. They still get kibble as a treat because they love it. I think it's like potato chips to them. I can tell you that aside form the health and happiness benefits for your cat(s), they also use the litterbox about 60% less because their bodies are actually USING everything you're putting in it. They don't drink as much water, so they pee less. And they poop once every other day or so and it's sort of dry, and light-weight, and not stinky. It's saving me a fortune on cat litter. With 17 cats in residence at the moment, I am spending $70 per month on food items (including a 30 lb bag of kibble) and I run 4 litterboxes for all 17 cats and still only have to scoop once a day. The only real downside is they DO get "predator breath" but it's totally worth it. Good luck!♥
The reason why Sylvester threw up the kibble is because his stomach had the wrong Ph-level for kibble. The Ph-level changes when you switch from kibble to raw and raw to kibble, which is why you shouldn't make the switch instant. My dog threw up the first time we tried raw (introduced too much too fast), so we didn't feed her raw for two years. Now she eats a mix between kibble and raw (breakfast-kibble dinner-raw lunch-kibble), incase something happens and raw is inaccesible. It's working really well.
Protein variety is SUPER important too though. Make sure they get some different items here and there. Different organs, different protein sources, etc. not every meal has to be 100% balanced, it should just be balanced when you look over a week or so. It’s crazy how much better raw fed animals look, they’re shinier, don’t shed nearly as much, allergies are usually gone and it promotes lean muscle mass so you end up with a fit healthy animal who isn’t obese like so many are.
save the unused bones and skin. you can bake the skins in the oven to make treats for your cats and you can used the bones to make broth to use as a food topper or treat.
P.S.S - make sure to rotate your meat sources! Just chicken forever is too high in omega 6, but also different meats have different vitamins and minerals and a varied diet helps make sure the diet is balanced long term. Beef, turkey, pork, lamb, rabbit, etc, can all be used to rotate. You would just replace the boneless thigh part with a different protein.
I’ve been searching for every bit of info I can on pet nutrition and have come across a couple of your vids! I originally came across your feeder mice vid because I have a cat with health issues and I have a feeling will resolved if I feed her feeder mice! She has intestinal problems and has always been prescribed cat kibble with high fiber, which I am ashamed to admit I am just now realizing how bad that is! A diet of high fiber or dry kibble has made things worse for her for sure😞It is so cool that your animals are so loved♥️ great vid!
