Good video. You were carrying a linemen's belt and never used it. You worked your ass off getting up the tree. If you used the linemen belt on the way up you can get your tether up way easier and you have one more point of contact on the tree (much safer). Stay safe brother!

I appreciate the first person perspective. It really shows the warts of stick climbing. If you want a quieter, easier and safer way, consider 2TC.

I always use my lineman's belt to adjust tether. It allows you to be hands free and get the tether higher for bigger bite for less transitions.

Not bad glad you found another tree to practice in. Practice practice practice for sure. I do use my linesman rope when I climb. Hopefully I’ll get my video soon

Great job. You do everything almost exactly like myself. Only 2 differences. 1. I pack my aider up before I remove the stick from the tree. 2. I clip my stick right to the carabiner that’s connected to my bridge.

I also use a sterling hollow block 2 as a back up to your mad rock give me a little extra peace of mind redundancy versus hitting the ground in the event of a failure. swap out the quick like you’re using for an oval QuickLink far less likely to slip out of the rope, And I also got rid of the fourth step on the ultimAider, I found it only helps you with your first move on the ground after that it’s more shit to get tangled up in your feet. I thought that was a good climb, recommend putting in your squirrel steps every time you practice I had more problems getting that thing set up than I did learning to climb.

I have yet to do this type of hunting but ordered everything, the one thing on your set up the scares me is the short tag end on the tether knot. I'm thinking a longer tag and a back up knot on the tag would make me feel safer

Where did you get that snail grey rope and grey clip that you have tied to your canyon line and use to stop the quick link from loosening?

Can you post EVERYTHING you use in order to achieve this, im very interested, and you made it look easy

That pack and play was a pain in my butt. I always had trouble getting the aider back in it without falling out the sides. I had my wife sew it shut on the sides. So much better now

Very cool, I would like to try it out, these pine trees out here are a pain to deal with let me tell ya. I may take the saddle out this weekend for the 100+ yard shots, working on some paint on the targets Delta McKenzie just sent me, a speed bag and a Mo' Go Mo' Foam. Trying to use glowing in the dark with neon pink. 🎯👀👍 Keep having fun, you know how we do it.

I respect all hunters ways and ideas. Some get super offended if you don't like their views. I don't get the whole one sticking. It seems like it takes more time going up and I lot more force. Coming down is a no Brainer.

Try hooking your dyna glide pull down rope on repel side of the quick link. By doing this the rope comes loose easier eliminating the need to walk out from the tree and spreading more scent and the rope if your climbing a shaggy tree will pull through the quick link. I've also pulled the repel rope loose from branches that I've had to climb over

What kind of clip do you have on your tether? The clip that is preventing your rope to fall down the tree after you have it set. Thanks

Solid and detailed video, man! I'm in my saddle for my first season this year and I'm just rocking my 4 Hawk sticks and a few aiders. I definitely see the weight savings and honestly it's probably safer getting down by rappeling rather than doing the reverse with 4 sticks.

I just started one stick climbing this year also. The one thing I do different is with every other step I take up the stick and aider I move my tether so I dont have slack in it at any time. This is just me but I always want the feeling of the tight tether makes me feel safer. But liked the video for sure good stuff.

I want to like this method I just can't see using in the types of areas I hunt. It's usually super thick and nasty with real gnarly trees.

I really like your video, but i think you should back up your madrock device. It is the only thing holding your entire weight. If it fails you would hit the ground. Redundancy is key in climbing.

Nice video, really liked it. I agree, it's mostly just a learning curve and learning to trust your gear. I think the "most freaky" part is when your moving your tether up and then when you first start to rappel. After the second move I usually break out the lineman belt just for some added safety when adjusting the tether. Starting your decent can be a bit nerve wracking until you get a feel for the friction, but it's really not that bad. Other than the tether adjustment, it's really no different than using multiple sticks tbh and you don't have to carry all the extra stuff. It's way safer going down though.

How much did the whole setup cost? I’m pricey out at $1000. So: $300 saddle, $300 stick, 300 for (rope, rappelling device, carabiners, pouches, etc), then tax. Feedback is welcome.

I like this method but i just cant do it. Too much slack in my tether at times for me to feel safe. I have fallen from 22 feet so i may be a little more weird than most about that kind of stuff.

No excuses now about why you can't reach certain heights! I guarantee we need to be 25' or more to keep "Skywatcher" from seeing us!

Too much work.. imagine doing all this in the dark. I use tree gaffs.

This is 5 times slower than just carrying sticks... Not only is not not advantageous, this is slower and mo0re of a pain in the ass. All for what, because you are too weak to carry an extra 2 sticks?
