My marsh mallow plants will be heading into their third year Spring 2020. Last year was the first real good harvest I had of flowers and leaves. And last year I planted four new ones. I love this plant!

I think I could mix this with raw honey for older kids with cayenne, lemon and garlic for a flu tea or by the tablespoon. Thank you Heidi. I think it might make a good dry mix with dandelion and burdock root. There you go with the inspirations, again! :-)

@@RainCountryHomestead so this could be done with a lot of flowers like coneflower/echinacea dandelions there’s so many flowers that could be used for things like that right and doing stuff with honey as a sweetener I am a beekeeper that would be awesome

I made vinagar from the Rose of Sharon flowers. Mallow family along with Marshmellow. It made several batches and very little sugar. It made the best shampoo combined with rice water for growth. My hair has repaired and grown a foot.

This time i have put marshmallow root in my herbal vinigar i use for a hair rinse . I have done some reaserch and it seems to be used more as shampoo than conditioning. I am curious to know if anyone knows is there a reason for this ?

I was researching and lesrned you can also eat the immature seedheads just like okra, you can sprout the sees and also boil the seeds to eat like drybeans! This plant is really entirely edible. So is almost every relative in the malve family! I looked up a few wild local relatives and they are both historically foodplants, though not perennial, so i have to harvest the roots the first year before they set seeds.

Thank you for all of the work you put into your videos, Heidi. I had watched this video a couple weeks ago and ordered seeds to grow marshmallow in my backyard. I also purchased some marshmallow root from the local health food store to experiment with while I wait for mine to grow. I became a certified herbalist a couple years ago but had no where to apprentice (there are some things connected to herbalism I'm not into but all of the more experienced herbalists in my area are). Your videos have taken herbs and wild crafting to the next level for me. Thank you again. God bless and many years.

O, I believe I know exactly what you are talking about. I had to stop recommending a certian herb book, though very well done, I got to digging a little deeper in a couple parts of it to find she is very much into witchcraft, though I am sure this person would not call herself a witch, that is exactly what she is! She does have a lot of great photos and information on individual herbs and that was what I liked about the book but now I recommend Amy Fewell's book above the others. She is a Christian and not into that other stuff either

Roast it with olive oil salt pepper and herb mix ¹/⁴mellow root ¹/⁴ turnip ¹/⁴ sunchoke ¹/⁴ potato. Any of these can be replaced with another tuber. I like roasted hibiscus root more then the mallow for its texture but the mallow is still really good

thanks, had to come up with something to do with immature roots, had to dig up a clump that somehow ended up right smack on top of my lemon balm. i get the blues more often than I get colds, so I'd rather have healthy lemon balm than extra marshmallow. especially since the main clump has grown easily four feet tall, maybe more. i'm also going to have to look up that spurge plant tomorrow. rats have burrowed under my planters and chewed into the basement window in my apartment building. they were there when I moved in, and they're bound and determined to get in that one route. no other spot will do. and now the landlord is angry. people keep thinking "they're going through her garden that must be what they want." when there's garbage bags ripped open and scattered all over the lawn. At this point I'm pretty damn close to open revolt. I've already reached the point of uncivilized words and the sharp edge of my tongue.

Would you know if Globe Mallow (AKA Dessert Mallow) and Marsh Mallow have the same properties? It seems like it, but I'm not sure. Globe Mallow grows all over the place in the desert and is rather drought tolerant of course.

Dug up my one year marshmallow because my first year doing herbs and was surprised by how big the root was. (Using even the tiny roots since I have none on reserve and have lots of digestive issues)). Left several plants for next year. Wanted to use the leaves but they were beautiful last week. This week COVERED with insect eggs. Ughhh!! If it was just insect damage I would have used them but no way to clean the leaves to be able to use. Don’t know what insect it was but don’t like them at all. Only thing they laid eggs on. Those racks look very good.

I don't think I will be eating them like potatoes. I CANNOT stand okra no matter how its cooked, the slime just gags me. When you do the tea does the tea get slimy? I am going to have to get some seeds from your easy site and try growing this plant. Do they transplant easily? We rent right now and I don't want to lose my plants if we have to move.

Fried, they do not get slimy, only when boiled. The tea will get a bit of thickness to it but not slimy. Yes, the do transplant very easily. I have done it many times with small and big pieces of the plant :)

I have never dried mine but I should do that this year. Yes, it should work the same but now I do not dry anything that high because it warps my trays. I15° is the highest I go

Roots from any plant can get tougher and more woody as they age so harvesting younger roots is best for ease of use

That should be pretty common for roots anyway but maybe I am not certain what you mean. If concern just cut them off when you peel

I purchased these seeds, but now I'm second guessing if I should actually grow this herb. Do you find them very invasive to other plants? I'm contemplating growing them in a deep grow bag (30 gallons). Do you think that would work?

While they will eventually self seed, I would not consider them invasive.

I can’t get the rubbing alcohol to take off the marker. Does it matter if the rubbing alcohol is fresh or old?

It does not spoil so it would not matter. Make sure you rub it into the markings with your finger then allow it to set for a few seconds then wipe it off BEFORE it dries or you will have to start all over

I have plenty of the "Malva parviflora"- aka cheeseweed- growing in my garden. I have hollyhocks around the house. We use the Throat Coat tea all the time during the winter and I'd really like to get most of those ingredients and make it myself.

You should leave the herbs as whole as possible when storing them. The smaller you or grind the herbs, the quicker they will spoil. You are exposing more surface area to heat, light, moisture, & oxygen which are the enemies of preservation.

Regardless of size, dried herbs do not ever spoil if properly stored. Anything can lose quality over time so yes, my herbs are protected from light, heat, moisture and oxygen since I vacuum seal everything into jars. While I never powder my herbs, I put up a great amount of them and simply do not have the space to store them all in their whole form. If you saw the jars and jars and jars of herbs alone, let alone food that I put up in my pantry, you would understand this
