Here I show step by step how I edited my widefield deep sky photo of the Cygnus constellation (and part of Cepheus) including north america nebula, pelican nebula, veil nebula, elephant's trunk nebula etc. I shot this with my astro modified Canon EOS R and a Sigma ART 50mm f/1.4 lens and just a standard photography tripod - NO TRACKER!. I edited it using PixInsight and Photoshop and in the video I show all the steps in the editing process as well as describe my sky conditions.

I guess astro modified camera is the key in order to get that red colour. Thanks for a nice video.

What he said! I have both star adventurer, and move-shoot-move, but do untracked alot. My nephew is starting this journey totally untracked. This will be of great help to him. Finding your sight was priceless. I'm buying him a "nifty 50' per your suggestion. For the holiday. THANKS

Hi Kamil! This is a great video and you did a wonderful job capturing and processing this image! Since this is a “without a tracker” video, I imagine you’re looking to appeal to the beginner crowd, people that are interested in getting into astrophotography, but don’t own a star tracker yet or a lot of dedicated equipment yet. The problem is that this audience likely won’t have Pixinsight either. I think it would have been better if you did all of your stretching and processing in photoshop.

Wow... I have watched several of your earlier Astrophotography videos, (as well as way too many from other RU-vidrs) and this one is by far one of the best I have watched so far... I will be going over it several more times to get down the details in my editing... Thank you so very much for posting this video... I will definitely be joining your Patreon next... Please keep up the great work...

I mean one can easily buy a used star tracker like SWSA for couple of 100 bucks and then don't have to worry about reframing, be able to take more light frames and longer exposures. Will make life easy. Not sure why go without it since you aren't doing astro-landscape. I don't even know or care about 500 or NPF Rule anymore.

Nice results Kamil ! I have imaged it also this summer and autumn but did not found the time to make the video. you always make star removal? i noticed some visible artifacts when zooming in
@kamilkp

Yeah most of the time I do because then I can work on the contrast of the nebulae without saturating the stars

That's an incredibly impressive image. I'm just getting into Milky Way imaging coming from a DSO background. I have a Canon 750Da, Sigma Art 40mm 1.4, and just acquired an Omegon lx4. Testing of the latter seems to show that 2 mins subs at 40mm are possible with no star trailing. The weak link in the system seems to be the camera which has a particular kind of banding unique to certain versions of the 750d. I'm torn between getting an astro modded 800d/850d or 250d, or going for an unmodded Canon R. Any guidance appreciated. In particular does the Canon R unmodded have enough sensitivity to Ha, and do you use an RF to EF converter? I believe one can get a version of the latter that accommodates standard 2" filters. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Des
@kamilkp
@kamilkp 2 года назад
I think the R is the next 6D mark I for astro. I got mine astro modded and I love it. But I was also shooting astro before the mod and it does pick up some Ha but obviously not a lot. I use the standard RF-EF adapter and clip in filters like Astronomik Ha or Optolong L-Pro

Impressive job Kamil ! I got one question. I tried to use the StarNet but I don’t know how the RGB and Grayscale weights files are prepared prior to the application of the process. Could uou give some clues please ?
@kamilkp
@kamilkp 2 года назад
You just need to download them from somewhere. Google „starnet++ weights files”

Hello Kamil, great tutorial as usual. I have a question- how did you bring Starnet to Process/Mask Generation? you work on Mac and this is why I am asking. not clear for me how to manage it on Mac.

I’m pretty sure that in most recent versions of PixInsight it’s already built-in and integrated

This is amazing But I have a question how do you avoid dithering and walking noise I hate them so much they ruin astro for me also untracked
@kamilkp
@kamilkp 2 года назад
When you shoot untracked you dither whether you’re aware of that or not. Think about it: the sky moves, the camera stays still, so every frame is slightly different. This is what dithering is

You’d need more exposures and probably a darker sky but yes, should be possible
