@@VincentChan The part about getting started being the hardest part is definitely true. I've heard different strategies for overcoming it, such as the 2-minute rule of only commiting to 2 minutes of action, but it's the first time I heard of just getting ready and it sounds like a strategy worth testing.

I went back to school after I retired. Have ADHD and some other learning disabilities with my short and long term memory. I was away from home in a different culture, and stressed because I needed an A on every project in order to keep my scholarship. I also had never taken a full load before. I was overwhelmed. I used the one thing motivation to keep me on task and moving forward: I needed to do one thing at each moment. I could not be thinking about all the undone things, or the stress of how well I could do- I just did my one task. Usually it took me about 20+ hours to finish a project: much longer than anyone else, but I did it and I finished with my grades. It saved my sanity and my college career. So simple. 😅 the forward motion is an idea I am utilizing at this time. Just getting ready, pulling my things out. Taking one hour to look at things. Deciding instead of trying to work on a killer schedule for 12 hours, take breaks, look for two hour segments, allow for other things to be on schedule instead of only one mammoth thing with outrageous demands. The domino plan works for getting finances in order. It took a few months but I am in position to save. Finally. Slow and steady Does get there.

@@VincentChan My alter ego starts the changes in life I've been meaning to make, but just can't get it going. He wakes up at 9AM instead of 2PM. He goes running 3 times a week. He "just starts" and "gets ready" things on his todo list. I don't have to finally reorganize my workshop today. I just have to build one shelf. This is has turned into "Now I'm building my dream workspace". I've always had these goals. When I have resistance I just say "well my alter ego does this" or "has this" and I do it.

I usually don’t comment on RU-vid videos but this is something I’ve mastered and would like to share. How I’ve though about it is I wanted to make the weakest parts of my self stronger. I was scared of height so I did pole vaulting and now aspiring to be a pilot. During Covid I formed social anxiety and purposely got a sale job to get better at being social. Over a year at this job and I’m doing awesome in it. You have to be close to the edge but not fall off.

The spotlight effect is real man!! People generally only think about themselves and how others perceive them. When you realize that, it really helps free up that mental bandwidth to do more productive things rather than worrying about what people think of you. This was another great video all around Vincent. Great work!

I think I do this alter ego thing whenever I’ve been on stage for singing or whatever purpose. But for me it was a matter of taking off something and compartmentalize things. In the moment that an insecurity would ever make it impossible to perform at a critical moment - #1 I’d shut off my emotion #2 I’d take those insecurities and shove them under the rug by saying - these people will never know me enough for their opinions to matter about how this came out, nor do they know me enough to know my potential to fail. So I get to put on a facade now that would most likely bring success to this moment of this necessary performance or engagement - identifying the characteristics that were absolutely necessary in this moment - and then my emotions shut down and here I am. My body would go from panic and racing heartbeat to suddenly calm and I could just focus on what needed to be done Am also INTJ too so this is easy for me - but however - that’s an in the moment switch flip- in everyday life however when pressure wasn’t do or die (fight flight state) - this is where I have not applied this bc I didn’t realize I was doing that until you just explained alter ego. Now the struggle to actually apply it daily activates. Thank you for bringing my awareness to this.

Thank you so much for this video! I am currently looking for a way to motivate myself to work on my social media hobby but I always feel tired. I know when, why, and the fact that it is a "reversed spotlight" effect. I don't fear what people think about it or that it needs to be improved. I fear nobody cares about it, so it is meaningless, no matter how good it turns out. That is, sadly, a side effect of the realization that "nobody cares". Therefore, working with a persona that takes over while working on the social media thing may help, as this persona does not have the mindset I explained before. I also watched the recommended video, and it was an excellent addition to this one, although the idea at the end was the same. Super excited to go through all your thoughts in this video, write my answers to them down, and see if I managed to switch my mindset into the more positive version of its current state. Once again, thank you!

Amazing idea that alter ego. I never really saw it exactly this way and I think one can also see ones "usual" (but yet kind of new version of self), most powerful version of oneself as limitless, but actually this is a very very good idea and it will probably make it easier for most people to think of it from the perspective of an alter ego one can really step into. 😊😊👍

How to do Hard Things: Create an Alter Ego or a better or different version of yourself In 4 Steps: Step 1. 4 Boxes Which area, or mission do you want for your character? What object activates your alter ego? Step 2. Mindset shift. Why you should start now. What negative feeling or hard task are you trying to avoid? 2 big things Worrying about what others thought. Step 3. If you don’t want to do something then get ready to do it anyway. Do not fixate on the end result. Focus on the process. Step Step 4 Telling yourself I will be successful when. Tell yourself I am a person who is successful.

This is my 3rd video today (1.21.24). I subscribed after the 1st one. I would like to solicit your help: 1) How do U change your RU-vid handle (name)? 2) Can U recommend an Apple 'beginner' laptop - large storage for pictures & videos & the microsift suite. 3) Can anyone recommend an editing app. I want to embark on a RU-vid channel, however, currently, I have no knowledge about editing videos.
