Nice explanation Casey!, the 1 thing I do differently, coming from a Nuke background (although I started with fusion several years ago), is, I don't like the horizontal flow of the node graph which is most common amongst fusion users, I like more of a vertical node graph , where all my background is in one single line, top to down, foreground always comes from the left, mask always from the right and output always from the bottom of the node. That way, just looking at the node graph, it's easy to read/understand it. This is specially useful when collaborating with a team.

The right click to connect output to input is really handy, if you don't want to try to memorize or search each time you want a connection. Especially if it's something uncommon. It's noted towards the end of the video.

One of the things I struggle with in fusion is the order of nodes sometimes - Like do I put tracking data before the text I want to track or do I feed the text element into the tracking data node etc.

It would honestly probably be way easier to build the infographic (or the individual parts of it) in a separate program like photoshop, then import them in. You can use fusion to block out a side of the video (background and merge nodes) and masks to bring each part in at an appropriate time.

@@smepable Thank you for taking time and sharing a useful link but I was talking about simple fast 2D info sidebars with text or lower thirds. This type of 3D intro animation is I guess more suitable to do in cinema 4d like software. My opinion.

Thanks Casey. Could you please show us how you create such high quality screen recordings? Specifically, how you lock on to and center the mouse as it moves around. Are you doing that manually? I don't see how a tracker could do it this accurately. Would also love to know how you manage to zoom in on parts of the screen without losing pixels/resolution. Are you screen recording in 4k, editing in a 1080p timeline (which lets you crop in without data loss), and then upscaling the render to 4k for RU-vid? Thanks and much appreciated! Love your channel :)

I’m using a utility called GlassBrick for Windows that animates the zoom and follow, and it’s recorded in obs. My screen is 4K and it’s scales to 1080 for the recording. Then upscales back for YT. Mostly for size/ease of editing.

Can anyone help me please. When I edit in the fusion tab, I have the audio of the clips nice and done, but when I switch to the Edit tab, there is no sounds or audio of those clips at all.

Is better to put overlaying images in fusion or in video feed ? I have 4 overlapping video source feeds but in fusion in OUTPUT I see only the op input feed video4 ... don't see video3,2,1 inputs in fusion output.

4:40 Wilde west ... why had Resolve not implemented clean screen algorithm ? to automate cleaning process when all floating instances is assigned clean border area and minimizing overlapping intersections to maximum extent ... this can be automated and can help to win fights on Wilde west :P

Anybody else find the constantly-scrolling background image distracting? There are two presentation modes here. One is the traditional fixed background and moving cursor. Fine. You can see exactly what's going on and you can follow the action. The second is one with the relatively static cursor in the middle of the screen, with the background scrolling around rapidly to accommodate. It's that that I find distracting and annoying. Especially on my large monitor.

Here's a little annoyance I've tried and failed to solve, totally unrelated to the video except I noticed your copy of Resolve 17 doesn't have it: How can I bring back the text captions on the tabs along the bottom of the Resolve window? I think along about 17.2, mine switched to icons only and I haven't been able to find any way to bring the captions back.

Right click the Resolve task bar and select either icons & labels or icons only

You could’ve skipped the whole thing about the 3-D. You were on a great track and that 3-D business just disrupted it. You could’ve easily covered it separately. Just thinking about what might be easier for other students like myself.
