This really makes me sad. Developers don't deserve almost a decade of future work being spoiled, their own personal data being released and pre-alpha builds being criticized like they are the final builds. Genuinely disheartening.

I don't really give a shit about games being leaked, but leaking personal information is a special kind of evil.

People are concerned about the game being leaked, I'm more concerned about the passports of the people working on the game being leaked.

What's worst though is the fact that people personal information has been exposed. This is a sad tale. In a year of leaks, this might reach up there with the worst of 2023.

It's not just a hospital that you have to worry about. The entire Irish health care system was ransomed a couple of years ago.

And yet all these companies want to pay lowest dollar for security and wont learn lessons

I love how people online are trashing the Wolverine game for 2 different but equally as dumb reasons. Because its "Basically Spider-Man 2 but they just slapped Wolverine into it" and "The (Pre-alpha) Gameplay looks bad and unfinished"

Even if they paid the ransom the pesonal info would still get sold. Not paying was definitely the correct decision.

No matter people's views on Insomniac and Spiderman 2, there isn't a SINGLE developer in the world that deserves this nightmare of a situation. Having your work leaked before it's ready can be desvistating, not only to the company but to the developers morals, as well. I really wish the devs the best.

The leaked exposed a lot more than simply the Wolverine game. It has essentially detailed marketing strategies, development timelines, product schedules and product life cycles for the next 10 years. Side note: it’s really frustrating we won’t get another Ratchet & Clank until 2029.

Obviously, The employee’s personal information was the worst thing about this leak. These people have friends and families who might now be in danger of harassment, death threats or even swatting attempts from these utter LOSERS here on the internet!!!!!

Ransomware is a pain. Just because you have a recent back up doesn't mean you're out of the woods. Those payloads can sit on your drive for days, weeks, months, or even years depending on the people that planted it. I say this as someone that has had to go through a business' back ups to manually weed out any potential malicious files after they were hit with ransomware.

It's only been 4 minutes since the video's been posted, and yet I see people in the comments acting like they've watched and digest the entirety of the video already. Crazy.

Forget Insomniac, Xfinity got hacked, and millions of user personal data got leaked. I think gamers should worry abt themselves first instead of these companies.

Sadly, security and IT is the first thing that get downsized when a company is struggling. "Why doesn't this crap system work!?!"

I think the anonymity of these actors is a major part in why they're so glorified and feared. I honestly think that whenever a cyber criminal is caught, the law enforcement agency release photos of them to prove that they aren't scary looking dudes, and in most cases look pretty pathetic. Much like the anti-work subreddit, I think exposing how unintimidating these people are will be the downfall of alot of hacking groups.

Well this is a great reminder to make a cold storage backup of all my data, I think that's something we all should do during the Christmas break!

The absolute worst part of these leaks. Is the fact is incredibly buggy pre-alpha builds. So no proper lighting, textures, sounds and gameplay will be incredibly basic and filled with bugs. And the devs now get that label slapped on them with thousands of people calling their work in progress utter shit.

That “living off the land” technique you talked about reminded me of “of mice and men” since that’s something similar that one of the characters, Lenny, say’s.

I’m not too worried about insomnia. They’re a big enough entity ultimately they’ll bounce back. Who I feel sorry for are their low to mid level employees. This will probably lead to at least a temporary but noticeable drop in their stock price, and corporations have a predictable reaction to stem the bleeding of funds: layoffs. The same people that just lost years of their hard work are also going to be the first heads on the chopping block.

I think companies should start keeping self hosted data. All this cloud services become an easy target for an attack as it requires opening all kinds of ports outside your network. There is no need to pay up for slack or jira, there are many MANY FOSS quality stuff out there, that you can self host, and pay a bunch of it guys handsomely to maintain those.

On a positive note, the combat looked very bloody and visceral in wolverine. I’m glad they’re going all in on the violence.

I think there is a very real way for them to turn this whole thing into a massive publicity thing , like were I in charge of INsomniac , id put out a statement saying "Yes , that is a game we were working on , but this is barely the start of what we were working on , if you saw our plans and our up to date version , youd lose your mind , but please enjoy the leaked version and consider it a demo and we will reveal more on this game soon" and use this as a way to not only anger the hackers but also make hype for the game . I think they could flip a positive spin on this for sure.

I used to work for a major braodcaster that used port 9000 for talkback systems for "outside broadcasts" that linked into every major system in the entirety of the internal network... big corporations are clueless and so tightfsted they wont dedicate the money or man hours to fix simple access points like open ports or MFA. Needleess to say when i showed the "head of technology" over a cup of coffee down the street from the broadcast centre how i gained access to his personal email it was swiftly made a priority to implement some security. To this day they still use XP for critical operational use connected to the net becasue it "costs too much to buy new software" yet the bonus for one manager is more than a licence for windows server lol

I have a voice acting background and have to say that Yuri Lowenthal's performance is Spidey 2 has been such an inspiration for me since the Prince of Persia Trilogy. The vocal training was really tough, sometimes without noticeable results for months but actors like him and the late Kevin Conroy are a great impulse to not give up. You almost saw me as Leon in those new RE games :)

The gameplay looks good but I hope the story isn't X-men: Origins Wolverine like. Because the story leaks suggested that, although there were some X-men elements in it too so yeah mixed bag I guess.

Sounds like getting hit by ransomware is lose-lose for the victims. If you don't pay up, bad things happen. If you do pay up, then you make the people who screwed you over that much stronger...giving them more resources and more profit motive to do it again and again.
