The 17th of Tammuz is the tragic start to the Three Weeks, a period of intense mourning that culminates with Tisha B'av - the day the Temple was destroyed. And if that's not enough, the Mishna lists even more calamities that took place on the 17th of Tammuz. Is it just a coincidence that all these terrible moments happened on the same day? Is the 17th of Tammuz just the Israelites’ bad luck day, or is there a common theme that runs throughout the events of this day?

You've confused modern meaning of the word מסכה, i.e. mask, with biblical meaning, i.e. molten. That's nice as a Drasha, but it's not the meaning of the word in the Torah

Why do our sephardic brethren not observe the 3 weeks or even much of the 9 days and only observe the mourning period in the week of tisha bav? how can we have a time of year that for some of us is so full of pain and mourning and for others it has barely any significance at all?

It's no such thing as coincidence by all these tragedies that occurred on 17's of Tamuz every single of them are from G-D, as a result of our ancestors ,by creating idols instead of HASHEM BLESSED IS HE FOR EVER AND EVER, and all these tragedies are a reminder for our generation too,it's a time of repentance, of making TESHUVA, and rebond to our haKADOSH BARUCH-U as soon as possible!!!MAY HASHEM OPEN OUR SOULS AND EYES , FORGIVE AND PROTECT ALL AM ISRAEL,TO BE THE LIGHT FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD AMEN ve AMEN!!!💗✡🕎💗
