🟢 Margarine to Butter Conversion in Recipe: foodhow.com/substituting-marg...
Setting aside that butter can be fine in moderation for many people, but what's wrong with regular margarine? Isn't margarine a healthy alternative to butter?
How Is Margarine Manufactured and Here Is Why You Should Really Avoid Using Margarine.
Margarine is made of vegetable oils. Although that may sound well and good, unfortunately, our bodies don't recognize industrial vegetable oils as food.
Vegetable oils like canola, corn, soybeans, and safflower oils are highly processed by heating and then further processing. This processing may involve using de-waxing, petroleum-solvents, refining, de-gumming, deodorization, and there are several other unnatural-sounding terms. I'm quite sure that you could never replicate that in your own kitchen.
Less than a hundred years ago, human consumption of processed vegetable oils was practically non-existent. That is because we just didn't have the technology needed to process and extract these oils. But once we figured out how to extract these oils from plants on an industrial scale, the vegetable oil consumption skyrocketed.
And that will lead nicely to my next point.
As most vegetable oils are already highly processed, they need to be treated and processed even further to make margarine.
As you know, vegetable oils are not solid like butter is. To make vegetable oils solid for use in margarine, they will have to go through a process known as hydrogenation. This means that oils are heated on high pressure and then treated with hydrogen gas and a metal catalyst. And all that heavy processing will produce trans fats.
Food companies use this process to increase the product's shelf life, make margarine solid on room temperature, and save costs. However, our bodies tend to find these altered molecules very challenging to process.
Margarine, particularly stick margarine, contains a lot of these trans fats. These fats are often linked to various health problems. Also, according to the Food and Drug Association, these man-made fats are proven to be unsafe.
Also, unlike traditional butter, margarine contains fewer amounts of essential vitamins. While it is true that butter is high in fat and calories, it naturally contains several essential nutrients, including vitamins A and E.
Some margarine companies are incorporating these vitamins into their products through synthetic vitamins. However, these synthetic or other unnatural nutrients can actually cause more harm than good to our bodies. Studies have also shown that these synthetic vitamins are mostly ineffective and give you little or no benefit.
And like the trans fats, and other unnatural additives are not enough, margarine also contains high levels of omega 6. When consumed in large amounts, it may lead to many health complications. If you are worried about eating too many omega-6 fats, avoid eating margarine that contains sunflower, corn, or soybean oil, which are exceptionally high in omega 6.
And unfortunately, that is not all. Since margarine uses vegetable oil as a base ingredient, various researchers have found that most of these vegetable-derived oils contain GMOs, also known as genetically modified organisms.
So, before the processing of margarine can even start, the crops are already tampered with.
And lastly, aside from the synthetic and other unnatural forms of nutrients, some margarine manufacturers also use BHT or Butylated Hydroxytoluene to increase the product's shelf life. Although it is generally recognized as safe, it is still a lab-made product and not natural.
Ok, but what about butter?
As there could be many bad things said about butter, the manufacturing process of butter is considered to be quite simple.
It includes the pasteurization of cow's milk, skimming, and churning of the cream, until the butter is readily formed. The overall process is very simple, and you can even do these steps yourself at home.
On the other hand, the process of making margarine is so much more complicated. There is no way you could make margarine at home unless you set up a massive manufacturing-plant and purchase a lot of scary-sounding chemicals.
Luckily it's not that hard to stop eating margarine. However, you could run into problems if you are an avid baker, as most baking recipes require margarine in their list of ingredients.
So, if you want to go margarine free, including in your baking, follow the link at the beginning of this description below where you will find practical tips and tricks about substituting margarine in your baking recipes.
Or go straight to foodhow.com
I will also cover some of the recipes that don't need the use of margarine at all, and what sort of result you can expect using butter instead.
Check it out now!

Replace butter with avocado - it's easy. Look into the process of how the cow's are milked day after day and the amount of feces and pus (usually from mastitis) that ends up in the milk - then they concentrate all of that stuff down into butter. It's wild

I just found out yesterday that the "butter" we've been consuming my whole life is actually margarine. The packaging says "buttermilk" so I just always assumed that it was butter but when I took a closer look at the wrapper it said "premium margarine" in small letters on the corner. It's been a while since I knew that buttermilk is actually different but it shocked me to know that I've been using margarine when baking instead of butter.

I've stopped using so much oil/fat, no matter the type. When added to carbohydrate rich meals, they put me to sleep! Lard, beef dripping and other animal fats are cheap (here at least), can be saved after cooking meat (even though I do not eat meat every day) and suffice for many purposes. Grilling, dry-frying, air frying and choosing a different meal entirely are good alternatives to frying in fat. Many sandwich fillings are moist enough that they are good without butter or marg.. I feel so much healthier having cut back.

bull cookies. modern factories don`t produce margarine with 2% trans fats. Dairy butter contains > 3% trans fat naturally, so without any difficult processing, its a natural (unhealthy) ingredient. The fat in margarine is only mildly processed. The factories mainly use natural emulsifiers and in Europe no preservatives are added. so margarines is quite healthy, they contain healthy fatty acids and in most cases fat soluble vitamins.

I'm not gonna say that margarine is the healthiest thing in the world but lots of what you say is wrong. 1. Vitamins are ineffective for people who don't get them from what they eat, that's why they're adding it back to the margarine (whereas people would previously get them from butter), there's nothing that distinguishes a synthethic vitamin that another that's non-synthethic. 2. If the vegetable oil comes from a GMO or doesn't, won't have any effect on the quality of the oil produced. The oil is extracted and cleaned from any potential impurities or things that shouldn't be there (in the improbable eventuality that the specific mutation would create any sort of problem on the plant). I just wanted to know how fat hydrogenation is done...

Some people may have difficulty digesting butter due to a lack of the enzyme lactase, which is responsible for breaking down the lactose found in dairy products. Lactose intolerance is a common digestive disorder that affects the ability to digest lactose, a type of sugar found in milk and dairy products. People with lactose intolerance may experience symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, and abdominal pain after consuming dairy products that contain lactose. In some cases, these symptoms can be relieved by taking lactase supplements or by consuming dairy products that have been treated to remove the lactose. Other people may have a cow's milk protein allergy, which can cause an immune system reaction when dairy products are consumed. This can lead to digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

If it were true that your body "didn't recognize vegetables as food", or if the issue were merely that our bodies "found them challenging to process", then they would just pass through the body. The real issues with butter are the same as the ones with butter except that butter has more calories per tablespoon. I'm not saying margarine is great for you, but I am saying: you're naively assuming that natural is always better. Also, you can google a variety of youtube videos that show you how to make margarine at home. It may have more steps than butter, but it's not really all that many.

Today's margarine mostly contains palm-oil(aka palm kernel fat) which is naturally kind of solid,but it is indeed not that healthy.however,butter that is widely available on the market is processed and contains trans fats too,and oils are also not that safe for many reasons(and first of all dishonesty from the producers about its purity),so,it is not like that there is a very much healthier alternative, unless one has access to natural non processed products.at least at a descent price

All of these points are very true, and most of them I already knew. However, there is another reason to avoid margarine, and this can also lead to health complications. But this is one that you missed, and probably should have included. Margarine manufacturers use three different chemicals, which are found naturally in butter and trace amounts. These chemicals are. diacetyl, acetoin, and acetylpropionol, all of which are found naturally as a result of the anaerobic fermentation of bacteria. As a result of that, these compounds are what give butter and some cheese as their unique odor. It also contains a small amount of a fatty acid called butyric acid, which is a fourth compound that is responsible for its flavor. That fourth compound is missing in margarine, but the other three that I mentioned are very concerning in high concentrations, which is guaranteed in a stick of margarine. When heated and inhaled, diacetyl in particular is known for causing airway complications. It’s one reason why I avoid the so-called popcorn butter found in theaters. It’s a wonder that the people working those snack bars don’t have breathing problems. And the ironic thing is that this problem usually affects healthy, non-smoking men. Women rarely suffer the condition. But it does happen.
@FoodHow

@@FoodHow as a blind person, I can smell the difference between real butter and margarine. The difference to me is very apparent as margarine becomes, melted and heated up. It has a smell resembling butter, but it has an underlying off smell to it. that is difficult to explain with words. But the odor is redolent of melted plastics. The breathing problems associated with the artificial butter flavoring were discovered back in 1987 when workers at a baking company in Missouri became sick due to unprotected exposure to the butter flavor. That information was covered up. In 1993, a German manufacturer of artificial butter flavoring, also made the same discovery when its own employees became sick due to exposure. And finally, in Jasper, Missouri, the same link was re-discovered when dozens of microwave, popcorn manufacture, workers became sick due to exposure to the butter flavoring. In real butter, these chemicals are found in very low concentrations, not enough to be of any significant health risk to breathing, at least, according to my local MD. But when the chemicals are produced on an industrial scale, and added to food products as an artificial flavoring, they’re used in much higher concentrations. In fact, in the Missouri case, the artificial butter flavoring that was normally supplied to the company had a diacetyl content of just 3%. That made it relatively harmless. But unbeknownst to the workers who makes the stuff, they had ended up with a vat of it that contained 10% diacetyl. If you look up the Eric peoples his story, he states it out quite clearly. And all the while, you hear his breath’s through an oxygen tank. The man who made the speech contracted, bronchiolitis obliterans, after being repeatedly exposed to the flavoring, chemicals at the popcorn plant. I always found reading about this very intriguing, because who would think that something that smells good could hurt you? And in nature, where it occurs, naturally, it typically won’t. But when we concentrate it, that’s when it becomes dangerous. It really was disconcerting to hear Eric Peeples make his speech, while hooked to oxygen, And occasionally coughing and clearing his throat. I last heard he was on a transplant list. But unfortunately, lung transplantation is another condition in which bronchiolitis obliterans can occur. So there’s always a chance of it resurfacing even after a successful transplant. So three things happen when you get exposed to diacetyl in high concentrations. You either die, end up on the transplant list, or simply end up, living your life, or rather, the remainder of it, with a lessened ability to breathe. I once heard about a 47 year old woman who was otherwise in great shape, but after reading, just two small bags of microwave, popcorn, a day, couldn’t even walk without getting out of breath. I also heard about another woman who had to sleep propped up all the time. And regarding the guy who won $7 million after suing a manufacturer of butter, flavored microwave, popcorn, he has to live with a 50% lung capacity. No telling if the guy is still alive.
@ryanmiller3020
@ryanmiller3020 Год назад
@@FoodHow The video that I mentioned is found under the channel insider exclusive. There are actually two stories of people who worked at these popcorn plants who contracted the condition after being exposed to the flavoring chemicals. One man’s name is Jerry, Blalock, and the others name is Eric peoples. But walk into a movie theater, and the artificial butter smell is readily apparent. Walk into a place like auntie Anne’s pretzels, however, and there is a butter smell, and while it’s similar to the popcorn, butter, you smell in theaters, it’s actually the real thing. Anne Beiler, the Amish woman who founded the company, would never countenance using margarine in her pretzels.

Just saute or shallow fry lightly before boiling your ingredients on simmer till they are cooked. Do not over cook. Avoid regular consumption of baked food if there is no way to restrict the quantities of butter in those baking preparations.

@@FoodHow it's not so much a case of correct vs not correct as it is the way the information was conveyed that I took issue with. primarily, you used the phrasing unnatural when speaking about margarine, and natural when speaking about butter. while I don't think you were doing it on purpose, this phrasing can very easily manipulate your audience to have a bias towards a particular mindset of viewing margarine as dangerous because it is unnatural and butter as safe because it is natural (less unnatural than margarine really). you also mentioned GMO's as being unnatural and that GMO crops are the primary sources of oil for margarine. however, many things we take for granted as safe every day are unnatural: clothes, cupboards, beds, tea, pasteurized milk, electronics, musical instruments, houses, plumbing, etc. my point is that how close something is to its state as found in nature is irrelevant to whether or not it is safe to eat, wear, use, etc. in the case of margarine it is primarily the trans fats that are the danger, not the margarine's highly processed state or plants of origin.
