How a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Works
Diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and gasoline particulate filters (GPFs) are two types of emission control technologies used in vehicles to reduce the amount of harmful particulate matter released into the air. Both types of filters work by trapping and removing particulates from the exhaust gas of a vehicle, but there are some differences.
DPFs have been used for years to reduce carbonaceous particulate matter created during the diesel combustion process. They work by trapping and then burning off particulates to limit emissions output.

This is great because it will help offset the massive new emissions caused by creating and charging electric vehicles 😉

Don't forget about children mining cobalt for batteries in Africa. They also want breathe fresh air.

So to clean the filter of contaminants from fuel, you burn more fuel. EPA logic hard at work I see.

It only does the regeneration after few hundred miles or whenever the sensor deems it necessary. And the particles in question are filtered mostly to decrease the amount of particles in the air that we breathe in, as the particles cause cancer over time. Fewer particles means less cancer for everyone.

That's like saying less nuclear fallout is better.

The logic is something like "let's collect it over time so we can dump it in one go" 😮

they aim for effeciency so they dont want it to goes active most of the time, and in general, they need it to fail periodicaly so the cost keeps commin 🤷‍♂️

Instead of having this troublesome filter system, couldn't you just theoretically tune the truck to run a bit leaner to burn off more of the unburnt fuel?
