I’m so late to this video but yes!!! I’ve always read explanations about the doorway sequence, never fully understood it till the model in this video. Brilliantly done.
A rack-and-pinion system would be far simpler and much easier to fix. It would also break down much less frequently as gears tend to last longer than cables.
I mean with all the free time Disney has had over the pandemic (With snow white’s enchanted wish they have definitely been working) maybe they fixed the effect??? Wishful thinking but hopefully at some point it comes back!
@@AmusementLabs Funny story from a lady who was cutting my hair a before the pandemic: “I thought the rubble effect was still around so I ducked and broke my nose on the dashboard”
I've been to Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Paris Disney, and *still* can't believe they didn't put this ride in more parks. It's amazing! Wish they'd do more immersive adventures like this instead of all the projected screens crap.
Yeah the practical effects really sell it a lot more than lots of screens! Of course practical is more expensive though, i fear we will have less and less as time goes on. Pretty soon rides will just be VR goggles XD
@@Alniemi Not sure about Disney, but I think Universal has truly realized they can’t just do screen rides. Supposedly they actually cancelled a planned VR attraction, and any other planned attractions they rely heavily on screens. Hopefully this realization hits other parks as well.
Same, had a lot of fun at disney world, but was really off put by how the rides just felt like being sat in front of a screen and watching a movie that happens to move
Kinda like how jursssic park rides at universal ages, slow dilphpsaursus, rare seeingnthe falling car effect which was the best water ride effect probably, then the bad ultrasaur animatronic, the parasaurolophus not being as fast and jumping as high.
You deserve more subs my dude. The amount of effort and research you put in is much more difficult than pointing a camera at yourself and talking. Good job.
I remember being in Disneyland at a young age (maybe around 4?), and me and my dad rode this ride 3-4 times in a row to see all of the introductory doors. This was easily one of my favorite theming elements ever, and I was very sad to learn that it was removed when I went there earlier this year. I definitely hope that it gets fixed!
Hey, totally off topic, but your speech and narration have gotten so much clearer. These videos are only going to get better and you’ve got a well developed style. Major props!
Do you know how many times I rode that to try and get all 3 paths?! A bunch! Thats brilliant E&D. Thank you for this breakdown! And I was wondering why when I went back, long after that grand opening, that the door never changed. Too cool. You did a great job.
first time I do comment on a video : what a hard work, precise explanation, well done scale vehicle and track layout, nothing to say more, keep going ! really like your videos
My Dad and I got stuck on Splash mountain and got stuck right before the big drop and so they did an evacuation. Of course they gave us both exit entrances for any two rides. So we would go through the exit and and they would ask for a card. When they asked for it back we were like nope, the cast members said to keep it all day! And so we did and continued to ride everything without waiting in line for anything! It Rocked this was about 20 years ago!
Hello, T.B.G.! A similar thing happened to me...except it was going by the island area, featuring a donkey...we were helped out of the 'boats', and onto the island, where one of the riders hugged the donkey, while his buddy took a photo of it! Fun 'explaining' that picture to everyone! Kindest regards, young lady!
This ride could easily be installed at Disney world as well as the ride at animal kingdom “dinosaur” uses the exact same track layout and path and the same effects at the same locations.
It’s actually impossible to have Indy in the dinosaur show building. Yes, the ride system is exactly the same, however Indy has a liiiiiiiittle bit more track than dinosaur (Indy has an extra “s”) and also the dinosaur building is not structured or built to house Indy and all of its effects, there’s not enough room for it (I’m an ex dinosaur cast member)
This was such a cool video. The Indians Jones ride is my favorite ride in the entire world. I love it and it was really cool to see how it actually works. I always wondered how they did the giant bolder trick. These rides are so cool.
I love how they brought back Mara's original voice back with James Earl Jones. When they revamped it and they changed the voice it just didn't sound right.
The three-piston motion base is capable of much more movement than they currently use it for. After opening, they had to reduce the amount of movement produced by the three-piston motion base, because it was considered too violent for some (translation: Disney was worried about getting sued by people who injured themselves when the vehicle wildly bucked).
In a somewhat similar move, the Ratatouille Ride in Paris was DRASTICALLY (some say by 50%) slowed down just before public opening, they had to scramble to adjust the animation scenes and extend them last minute
Part of what you said is true, the rest is not. I was one of the original 12 Design Engineers who designed, engineered, prototyped and developed this ride system between 1990 - 1993. Of course the motion base can be articulated into more extreme positions and at much higher velocities. While developing it we did a lot of tuning to smooth it out. That's a part of developing any new design. But we worked all that out WAY before (years before) this ride opened to the public. And all businesses that deal with the public are mindful of the possibility of people getting injured and design and engineer their products accordingly. To do anything other than that would be unethical / unprofessional.
@@GoogleEqualsEvil I apologize if what I commented was incorrect. However, many have reported to me that the current ride experience is much tamer than when they first rode it immediately after opening.
Wait what? The cars don't move backwards during the boulder scene? Ive ridden this ride so many times how did I not know that, thats actually really impressive how convincing it is
So the technology has been used on this ride , test track, dinosaur and cars ride. Just cars and test track don’t have the added affect of moving around to simulate big hit by something. So 4 rides all using the same technology just some adding more things to the cars , crazy how far rides are going know with non track vehicles.
I don’t think there is any kind of EMV ride at other parks I think it’s pretty much a Disney thing, though looking at it super star limo or monsters ink ride know has something similar.
Dude this is your best video yet! Been following for about a year now. Really glad you decided to bump up the production quality like this and really focus on the engineering aspects of these rides. It fills a niche in the theme park breakdown type videos out there. A little history, a lot of engineering. Versus the other guys have lots of history and little engineering. I hope it won't take months between videos though, I know how much work this took. They take time, just hopefully not too much time lol. Looking forward to your channels future.
It was my first time on this ride and i broke down on the dart room, we continued the ride with the lights on So the only time I’ve seen the boulder scene in real life is with the lights on
My ex girlfriend's brother is a lead at Anaheim. He worked with Spielberg and Lucas while Indie was being built. He ran CarsLand and now runs Star wars, he's very humble and loves working there.
They must make choices when the rides break down. The boulder doesn't seem to move towards the vehicle anymore. It comes forward and there is no backward-like motion anymore. Not sure if there was a mechanical issue or if it was disabled for good.
Great information in this video. I had NO idea how the Chamber of Destiny worked, but it makes total sense. A quick trick, rather than 3 different paths. Brilliant!
Such a shame the chamber of destiny effect is turned off. Really hope they can reactivate it again! It's even better now that I know how it works and I missed it even more!
Indi really is in need of a massive overhaul. Not changes so much as it just needs a lot work, so many effects are diminished. But that would likely mean around half a year of down-time, at least. Still, we can only hope it gets it.
WOW, this is AWESOME work, the details of the 3D printed model and your explanations make this video pro quality and certainly one of your best if not THE best. RU-vid should have a special kind of thumb up for extraordinary videos like this one. Congratulations, I loved it! Your videos are a trove of information! Now I'd like to know who's the idiot who dared hitting the thumb down...
24 hours of nostalgic curiosity. 😀 The Lava Bridge was very 🆒, because it reminded me of how hard it is to deal with how serious a lava flow really is as part of the suspense on a dark ride that's based on the Indiana Jones franchise. The reason why I like that scene so much is actually because, I studied about Geology in the 6th Grade for Science at my former middle 🏫. I like Star Tours at Disneyland as we know today. As a kid, I also liked Alice in Wonderland, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Mad Tea Party, It's A Small World, etc. which are dark rides located at Disneyland which is a theme park located in Anaheim, CA.
Stunning models and visualizations! Thank you for letting me see one of my favorite attractions in an all new way. I can’t wait to see what you do next
I remember the rat log. For the first LOT rides I didn’t know what it was, just fog and randomness with rats scurrying around. THEN suddenly my last 5 times riding it I can see it clearly and was like “is this new? This is cool!”
People who work for Disney are so fucking cool. I wish I could be friends with y’all and have a beer and talk about all the shit you guys go thru at the parks!!
I once heard it was actually earthquake damage that killed the door effect. Idk how true it is, but sounds on brand for Southern California. The ride is sadly a shell of what it once was and is in desperate need of refurbishment.
The other thing I've heard is that, much like the speed tunnel lights on Space Mountain, the only way to fix it is to go in a small little area that's accessible, but not OSHA approved to work in.
I love this ride so much. I've been to Disneyland twice and I rode it several times and it's my favourite ride in any theme park I've ever been to. But I never understood how the Chamber of Destiny used to work because I've never seen how it was before and it was confusing. I finally understand it after seeing your model of it. Thank you for that
Holy crap! I love your commitment to making a fully "functioning" model of both the ride, the ride car AND the door effect. It's extremely well done and goes to show how innovative this ride was at the time and even now. I seriously look forward to watching more of your videos!
The only difference between the three scenes are the lighting projected on the walls. “Eternal youth” gets a blue light for water, “Riches” gets a yellow light for gold coins and “visions of the future” is dark with a projection of stars/space on the walls.
I’ve never seen this channel before but less than 2 minutes I’m sure I’m gonna watch more, thank you suggestions and good luck with the channel man, I’ll be subscribing
Do you know how the Vortex at Indiana Jones in Tokyo Disney Sea is created? Is there a large Fan in the ceiling or how do they do it? As far as i know you need multiple fans assembled in a circle to get the right airflow...
VERY, VERY IMPRESSIVE video within its self, BUT the explanations with the 3D print models made it amazing! VERY well done! look forward to seeing more videos!!!
There is another Indiana Jones Adventure ride at Tokyo DisneySea which uses the similar ride system but it's title is Temple of the Crystal Skull and with different theming. You didn't mention the Tokyo version. If you are wondering which version of Indiana Jones Adventure I like more, my answer is the Tokyo version.
I remember they used to give out these little cards that could decipher the text on the walls in the queue. Not entirely sure if they still do, because I lost the one I had.
I used to have one of those decoder cards too! Went on the ride the first week it opened when I was 12. I remember that all the decoded words on the walls were clever ads for AT&T which was the ride's sponsor. lol It gave you something to do while you waited 2 hours to get on the ride since there were no fast passes offered yet.
I come back to this video time and time again, it’s just so interesting. And last time I went to Disneyland me and this other guy were explaining how the ride works, imo how the ride works is even more interesting than the ride itself.
I love how you just go all out with these Videos! Keep it up man. If you wouldn´t have built these models I probably wouldn´t understand it at all! Great work. 👍
My pleasure. I like making little models, though maybe in the future I won't do stuff that's as complex as the EMV model. That was a real pain to make. 😅
Loved this video! That model is incredible! This is by far my favorite ride of all time. I’ve heard rumors each car has its own personality programmed into it. Not sure what that means exactly but it sounds cool. I also love how many slight variations there are in the dialogue through out the ride.
That rumor may have been initially true when the ride opened, but I've ridden it many times over the last decade and it's always been the same program.
This is one of the rides that i remember most, I went in 1997, and i had no idea how new it was, but it definitely left quite an impression. I cant believe how many details i had NO idea about, all the moving structures, and how much was under the cars. Very cool stuff! definitely earned my sub!! You should do a video on Medusa from Six flags Discovery kingdom! another one of my favorites!
Here’s some constructive criticism for you. SPEAK MORE CLEARLY. You talk like you have braces. If you weren’t asking for donations, I wouldn’t say anything. But because you are, you need to speak a bit slower and a bit more clearly. All in all, nice video.
@@AmusementLabs yeah I get you, maybe just a tad too long on it but it doesn’t take away from the greatness of the video. Definitely do space mountain, Matterhorn, mummy’s revenge, Jurassic world, or splash mountain next since the theme is changing soon
