Man, when I installed my Solar 10 years ago, I wouldn't even dream of how quickly the we got to this point. At the moment, I am manually doing the "solar" charging on my Tesla, and as I get back to the office, post covid, it is less relevant for me but I am happy to see this innovation.

A couple of comments/observations. Not really a factory tour as we saw nothing being assembled/manufactured. If I were cynical I'd say the units were bought in from overseas, tested on site (as shown) then sold to the general public. Secondly, top knot Hypervolt guy mentioned Netflix during your conversations, but didn't indicate how this was relevant to their business model. Netflix work on a subscription basis i.e. one pays a monthly fee to access their service. Hypervolt don't appear to follow this, so if, say, everyone in the world has bought a Hypervolt charging point, from where would their business derive it's income?
@hypervoltev
@hypervoltev 3 года назад
Everything is made in the UK, from parts to finished product. We do buy small parts from overseas as much as anyone else, but we don’t have any manufacturing or staff outside the UK. Netflix may have been confusing, in the sense that we hope to become a platform to bring software between the energy providers and our users, by means of offering a real time load management tool to energy providers.

Super Eco, Eco & boost? It’s nice to see Hypervolt are adopting ideas from the Zappi charger I have installed at my house, amazing bit of kit the solar integration! I’ve saved so much money using it this last year, myenergi must be a huge inspiration! 🤗
@hypervoltev
@hypervoltev 3 года назад
It isn't, and that's not saying MyEnergi doesn't offer you something compelling, but we follow a very different direction. Mode names are standard across chargers, not just Zappi, but our product works without a hub, without extra CT clamps, out of the box, and for significantly less money. Now all manufacturers make different trade-offs, but in many fundamental ways we tend to do things differently than Zappi. Whether that fits your bill or not is indeed a separate matter.
@hamiltoncrocker1613
@hamiltoncrocker1613 3 года назад
@@hypervoltev Price wasn’t my concern, I will pay anything for a quality product. That should be a motto for every EV enthusiast out there. These chargers will be the most used appliance in the house. And for me safety does not have a budget, all EV charging manufactures are incredible in there own right but as a retired electrical engineer, I wanted the best PEN protection technology money can buy.
@hypervoltev
@hypervoltev 3 года назад
 @Hamilton Crocker Absolutely! A lot of people end up comparing us to MyEnergi, which do a lot of awesome things in their own right, but as with any market this big, every company gets to speculate about what most buyers will need. We really don't feel Zappi has to go anywhere for us to succeed, in fact it's a great thing that British manufacturers which are very focused on innovation are able to grow and capture significant market share, as opposed to a lot of products coming in from other places without pen fault, without a focus on the British market and consumer, and no benefit to local economy, or a high quality offering to the consumer. MyEnergi are a great hardware company, and sure we all have our shortcomings, but if the future yields a fantastic success for both companies, and many other local manufacturers in this space, that would be a fantastic outcome, putting the UK and its superior engineering ability at the forefront of the EV revolution, not just now, but at mass adoption.

@AretecE I'm happy to reply in person. That was an installer underselling the product, but selling our options at a higher price(which we do not allow), cutting all possible corners with installations, selling warranty to people without registering it with us and keeping the funds, illegally. To date, we've replaced 60% of their installations, and the list of complaints keeps piling. You tell me what you would do better, because I will certainly do it without hesitation every time someone exploits our product and customers. After we've warned 10 times very politely. Sorry you got to witness something like that, but that was the lid blowing off after countless problems and warnings, and we will never compromise the experience of our customers in favour of any third party that's cutting any possible corner just to make a profit, by pretending they are more affordable. You may rightly be put off by the reaction, but hopefully you can see it wasn't any kind of greed driving it. If you were to ask our installers, they might say we go to incredible lengths to offer them the best support as well.

@@JamesScholesUK Zappi can operate perfectly with fully automatic solar integration, using it's standard included single *bidirectional* CT on the grid incomer. And both need charge to get to work, so yes taking control away because our net work is not able to keep up with demand woukd not be acceptable, its the networks way of not keeping up with the future and saving again money to make money for share holders. @@hypervoltev currently I have a huge issue with how I want to charge my car, and I have done research on other ev chargers. At present at my location with my ev charger, top branded. I use economy 7 and set my car up on timer so it comes on at 13:30am and stops at 08:00am this is the cheapiest for me. But I have an 8kw solar system. In the summer its no issue, its the start of winter which is now where we have low light, so my solar is up and down. Problem is i cannot set my current charger to allow me to work off solar only but override this and continue to charge at My set time. To complicate things for my wife, I have 2 ev leads, I have one which I have changed the resistors to 1k so that I only get 2.3kw which is the average solar production during poor light conditions. All this does is makes sure I use less grid which costs me. Then I need to swop leads for night charging on economy 7. Anyway the hypervolt actually does allow me to use solar only and still will charge at my economy 7 tariff. They took enormous power and all switched on at virtually the same times. Then there’s electric showers consuming 7-11kW. The network survived those big consumers without any serious issues.

It was a good video. I do have one thing I would like you to ask them to look at. I work shifts, and as such they change every two days. Only being able to set up start and finish times once for every day on cars and chargers is a royal pain. I have to set it up every day individually, sometimes I forget to, consequently I don’t bother. Would really be good if they had an integrated calendar so you could set up your week or even better months charging profile. Sometimes I start work at 7am sometimes 7pm so I can’t just leave it set to be charged for 6am every day. If you could plan the whole month that would be a step ahead of everybody else.

That's an area where we truly shine, in terms of software, and even subjected to pen testing recently alongside other manufacturers, no vulnerabilities were detected. We constantly work to improve our solutions of course, but all your data is encrypted, advanced encryption is used during the pairing process, chargers are hard locked to your account and so forth, which prevents someone walking up to the charger and taking control of it. Even if someone were to hijack your Wi-Fi, they would struggle to steal away your Hypervolt data, and this is something we work hard to constantly improve.

Love the look of the new Hypervolt EV charger but I still like the design of the Andersen charger because you do not see any cables once you've finished charging. The way Andersen have incorporated this into their design is simply brilliant. No one wants to see cables wrapped around a charging unit. No matter how good their units may be, they look untidy when you see the large cable wrapped around it. Perhaps Hypervolt could do something similar. For now Andersen get my vote, that is until Hyper volt can come up with a similar design like the Andersen. As usual another great video Jordan. 👍
@hypervoltev
@hypervoltev 3 года назад
Andersen design is cool cable wise, but it's 4 times the size profile, and twice the price. While the design choices and cable design may appeal more to some people, we focus on creating something a lot more affordable, and we are significantly cheaper than an Andersen(50%), or even a MyEnergi product(25%). While Andersen will have the upper-hand in customisation, that kind of approach is very difficult to execute at scale. On software however, there is simply no comparison between what we can offer, Andersen will downright short change you on features by quite some distance. We tend to care a lot about design, but not where it limits us from scaling our ability to help millions of customers, or be generally a lot more affordable than the current top end of the market!
@terencecottington4273
@terencecottington4273 3 года назад
@@hypervoltev I would agree with you on pricing but increasing the size of the Hypervolt if manufactured in mass would drive down the price making your product more attractive in the market place. If the unit could be made slightly bigger where the cable could be hidden from view, I for one would be interested in buying one. From a buyers point of view, if you take an average person who only wants to charge his or her car, then I'm afraid design does come into the equation and the technology and the inner workings of a product will be overlooked by someone who is looking for a stylistic design. In having said that there are people of course who simply don't care what it would look like if its cheap enough and does the job. The problem with the latter is people that don't really care about the look, will not also care about its blips and whistles proving it works and does the job.
@hypervoltev
@hypervoltev 3 года назад
@@terencecottington4273 We would suggest looks are an area where we tend to do a lot better than most companies, Andersen being the exception. While you are right about volume manufacturing, even installers will tell you the approach Andersen takes does bring shortcomings, and from a large scale manufacturing point of view it's simply an impossible strategy to execute on. Our products are however not the worst looking. No accounting for taste though!

Interesting presentation. The overriding question for westernised economies is how to de-carbonise every aspect of life. Almost every movement of goods, food, people, and so on still relies far too heavily on diesel fuel. This continues because of the way the distribution of. goods and services is centralised on specific hubs - China being one such hub. Supermarkets do exactly the same which massively increases food miles. Solar, wind, and tidal power by all means, but alone it will not cut the excessive 7 tonnes per person per year carbon footprint of western Europe - the USA double that figure. EV’s are not necessarily going solve the problem either because of the finite resources that this planet can provide. This is one of many interconnected issues that have not been addressed by governments worldwide because of chasing the fairytale of growth economics. There are some very fundamental questions that are not being addressed about maintaining lifestyles that are not sustainable.

It's nice they're aiming at local grid, I have lost count of the amount of times people have had chargers installed lately, or their neighbors and we've found the local grid just can't handle it as the cable supplying the street has decayed. People have to remember we're now going into an EV push with supply cables that haven't been renewed since the 1940-1950s in many suburbs all over the UK with even older cables in some city centers. National grid and power generation is fine, provided that everyone doesn't try to turn them on over night, thankfully a country of EV's only is a good 2-3 decades out due to the chip shortage and lack of forethought by governments and energy transporters allowing some time for them to get their assets in working order. It's nice that thhey're building a mesh but as has become publicized by the government some over the air update enabled chargers aren't secure and because of the way they're designed they will never be 100% secure. It's always going to be a race to keep ahead of anyone that might want to break into the system and do something like a ransom wear attack.

Chip shortages are definitely slowing things down, but not for long. The problems are massive, but we see opportunity in the product we call Ultragrid. Certainly some will challenge its salesy name, but it's important to remember we work to serve a very wide audience, not just the tech savvy viewers here. However, the ability to really balance the grid, and later offer one of the most advanced and responsive mass scale V2G integrations to DNOs is something unique to Hypervolt. It's not a complete solution, but it will everyone very very far along the way. There are other things that must be done to enable mass EV adoptions, which will take years to build.
