I know junction boxes aren't necessarily an electrician's favourite thing, and in this case may be DIY. But they are BS approved, wired correctly with cpc sleeving, fixed to a surface, not hidden under insulation or floors/walls, no exposed single-insulated conductors. Why a C3? What's 'not done properly'? Terminals in any part of an electrical installation by a professional can become loose. JBs are actually in the regs as one correct method of wiring light switches, spurring from ring finals, extending radials, etc.

Hi Cory, The thing you were talking about as to taking the company to the next level and everyone doing the same thing the same way is called SOP or standard operating practice. It is always good to get everyone doing this. It is the reason that a Fire fighter from Manchester can move to cornwall, and be out on a shout within minuits and be able to fit in right away without any additional training and work with his new collegues.

The combination of a decent drill bit, along with the drill being guided in so it doesn't drag on the sides of the hole and the dust being sucked out of the way all helps to make for a much better experience.

Hey Cory, I'm in my sixties and I tie my shoe laces oddly too! It took meeting my wife, many moons ago, to point it out and we fathomed the cause to be that my mum was left handed and I was probably dyslexic at the least but of course it wasn't recognised back then. She must have had the bright idea, after struggling to get me to do it, of showing me how to tie laces by doing it in front, rather than beside me so I saw a mirror image of how to do it. I now tie laces oddly apparently but its effective, never come undone! I believe I saw a comment remarking that you're lefthanded so I wonder if something similar happened to you too. I'm actually quite ambidextrous so would probably have been quite happy to learn left handed! 😂

I'm looking to renovate my house once a long drawn out house insurance claim for subsidence is sorted. The whole house will need a complete rewire. I have 14 solar panels that I am seriously unimpressed with and a 4.5kWh storage battery on a grid trading tariff that I'm also not convinced about and I have an electric car and like the look of the Hypervolt Charger. When the time comes, I will definitely consider Artisan... I need good advice. I hope you enjoyed your lunch at the Toby in Aldenham. Pete. 🙂

a potential issue I could see with only checking a few sockets is accidental sampling bias. you could end up doing a report on a house a year later and end up only pulling the faces of the same sockets as last year and now the other sockets haven't been checked for 2 years, especially if you end up selecting the easiest to access socket.

I’ve a question about EICRs. Here in Ireland they’re not as common. Do all domestic premises in the UK require an EICR periodically? And how often is it needed?
@petermichaelgreen
@petermichaelgreen 2 года назад
There is a recently introduced law requiring most private rental residential properties in England to have an electrical inspection (which in practice is interpreted as an EICR, though the law doesn't say that explicitly) every 5 years. There were a lot of rental properties without a recent EICR, so there are a lot of EICRs being done at the moment to bring properties into compliance with the new law. For owner occupied properties in England I'm pretty confident in saying there is no legal requirement to have an electrical inspection. I think but i'm not sure that the same applies to council and housing association properties. I do not follow what the devolved governments are up to but I haven't heard of any of them introducing similar requirements.

When ever somebody does an EICR on a property, anything they see in the house that isn't up to current regulations you give a code on the report. C1 = Is 'Danger present. Risk of injury. Immediate remedial action required.' (aka something is live and if someone touches it they could die). C2 = 'Potentially dangerous - urgent remedial action required' (aka Its not dangerous now but if something goes wrong it could be, like the Main Circuit Breaker being too big so wont trip out in a fault). C3 (Code 3) = ''Improvement recommended.'' There isn't anything wrong or dangerous about it but it could be made better or safer. Like changing your consumer unit from an old Plastic one to a shiny fire resistant(?) metal one' Any C1s or C2s on the report and the property fails (C1s need to made safe immediately) and remedials have to done to fix them before a passed report can be issued. C3 can just sit on the reports forever because landlords don't want to spend the money. (There is also 'FI' for Further investigation required which will also fail the report failing reasons)

It's not necessary or required to do R1+R2 on an EICR, unless of course you come across something that may suggest dodgy DIY has gone on. Its definitely the safer option to test dead though. But if you do test live and take a ZS reading there's no need to calculate R1+R2 is my point.
