How Lebron James RUINED the NBA FOREVER!

On July 8th 2010, ESPN ran a one of a kind program on its channel called “The Decision” where Lebron James with an audience of millions over a 75 minute segment watched to see where Lebron James would sign in the offseason. At this date and time, the Player Empowerment Movement would start as Lebron James decided to pave his own future and path as he, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh would all team-up and go after championships together on their own accord. People always claim Lebron James started the Player Empowerment movement and ended up ruining the NBA as other stars over the year would control their own future or control their organizations to the point of ruin. Well what if I told you, that what Lebron did was possibly justified, and the development of the movement wasn’t ruined by him when he started, but pioneered by him but ruined by others as the years passed on. And this can be talked about with many decisions, Kevin Durant's decision to leave the OKC Thunder to win Championships with Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, other teams trying to make super teams like the Lakers with Kobe Bryant bringing in Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, or even the change in NBA Super Star Culture where players can do what they like when they like and can even make decisions for their team within. Whether that's Lebron James becoming Le'GM, Kawhi Leonard getting the Clippers to bring Paul George to LA, or Kevin Durant and others trying to force their way out of team situations.

I remember vividly being shocked that Lebron left for Miami but not mad cause we all knew how bad Cleveland was outside of him for a decade. I was mad at KD not because he left (I can understand and respect that) but he left for the team that HE blew a 3-1 lead on. Imagine bron losing to Boston and he’s like okay I’ll go there THE NEXT YEAR. Kd is lucky people don’t really hold that on him anymore. All that said KD is a great but his move and bron was way different in their own ways
@RedJay326

The way I look at KD’s free agency it was that every team was gonna get substantial cap space due to the new deal and everyone was going to get the chance to be much better. the fact the warriors had the salary space plus the fit it was the best move for him to win. I think it was a weak move but considering the clippers, the spurs, lakers, wizards, all had tons of cap space to make moves and build something if managed right. I think he just wanted to get that ring off his back and thought he’d be able to live w the hate and low and behold it wasn’t that easy

Still won’t forget the 🧁 moniker Russ gave KD. It still kinda sticks especially since KD’s the one championing about player movement and whatnot. Yea I get player movement is apart of the dynamic of the league but in situations were you’re a contender and just feel like either the obligation is too much or you want an even easier road is some serious smegma 🧀 to me. NBA integrity is seriously degrading as of late and it’s sad to see (highlight culture, iso heavy, easy road team-ups, + a slight personal gripe over the new stepbacks… those to me all day are travels idc what anyone says) That 2007-2015 Spurs type basketball where when it’s flowing it’s poetry in motion needs to make a comeback

So sad to see KD being a ridiculously expensive rental. He left the Warriors to try and prove that he can lead a team to a ship, yet never tried to win without a superteam. His career accomplisment is him taking Harden and Westbrook to a finals when they were underrated.

KG, Pierce, and Allen we’re all aging when that shit happened. Plus they weren’t calling each other during the off season planning a team up like LeBron did. As a matter of fact Lebron is directly responsible for the 2016 Warriors. Lebron was the VP of the NBPA and he and the organization rejected the salary smoothing in 2015 which meant the salary cap had a huge increase the filling year, that increase was the only reason the warriors could afford to sign KD 😂😂. I got banned from NBAreddit bc people kept downvoting my takes and getting my posts removed, but this man who gets paid to talk about sports just said that one day LaMelo Ball will have the same amount of power as LeBron 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 Don't forget, Minnesota screwed up Garnett's time there tampering with joe Smith. They lost a bunch of picks and handcuffed themselves in the dumbest way for an average player. I didn't watch THE DECISION live and I always assumed it was a really bad pr move on Lebron's part and obviously it was but seeing the bit now that you put in your video, why tf did the man ask if LeBron is a nail biter? His tone was so condescending. I kinda understand why LeBron seems to think that people didn't like the Decision bc it was a young black man wielding power, bc that was the tone i got from that interview but c'mon man, that isn't why the majority of people were rubbed the wrong way by the whole thing. I'm a Warriors fan, have been since Latrell Sprewell so I've suffered haha but yeah the KD was hella soft and whats worse is it ruined a rare pure thing that came together in sports and the worst was the timing. If you're the Warriors execs, you just don't follow up a season like 2016 with a move like that. The highest high, the stunning disappointment at the end. No, you absolutely have to run it back, give them a chance to respond. These are athletes, this is how they are wired. That was the move a chess ai would make. Clearly, you have a chance to obtain Kevin Durant you do it right? Statistically. Yes it is the obvious correct move. And it paid off with two rings and who knows how many in perpetuity barring the injuries that happened. The warriors could be on a 6peat by now, like the Heatles promised for themselves. But that just goes to show that there is a tremendous amount of humanity in sports. For what it's worth, I forgive and understand the move from KD's perspective bc he is an actual basketball head. I think that for KD he was looking at Golden State as the perfect system for a player like him, and that is absolutely correct. Again as a warrior fan, I definitely enjoyed watching the basketball they played. Basketball is a separate thing from the NBA. Think of it like fighting and WWE or UFC. These are entertainment businesses that take advantage of the fact that people enjoy watching fights, but it's not a real fight. I mean, it is but it isn't. An NBA game is not a real basketball game. It is but it isn't. I think KD was a bit naive and was thinking he could go to Oakland and play real basketball, and he kinda did, but that move definitely assassinated the NBA as far as being an entertainment businesses. In other words, basketball definitely won, the NBA/the Warriors organization definitely lost One more thing, maybe everything that's happened since 2008 or 2010 or whenever you want to start talking about superteams doesn't have that much to do with LeBron. Maybe players who are actually concurrently in the league aren't all that influenced by LeBron. Their situations are unique. What has changed is money and cap space rules and all that. The KD move is possible bc of an anomaly in the cap space system. This would probably happen any given year if there was a similar leap in signing power for contending teams. It just so happens that KD was the biggest fish when the big net actually opened a little. If I'm not mistaken, Ben Simmons makes more than Jordan ever made. Steph and Dame et al will make 60M in a year at some point. That changes the game. I don't think anyone is looking at what LeBron is doing or saying, they're looking at what Steph is making bc the NBA is an ATM in the shape of a basketball arena

Listen, I’m from Ohio, I live about 45 minutes away from Cleveland. 30 minutes from Akron. I remember LeBron leaving when I was a kid (I was born in 2001), and I never took it as badly as those dudes in that clip. Admittedly I wasn’t as into basketball back then as I am now. But when I saw people on the news burning their jerseys and shit, I always thought it was stupid. Like it’s not that deep bro. Let the man go where he wants to go. Realistically he was never going to win at that time with the pieces that were around him. The organization was more so doing HIM a disservice by not giving him good personnel, rather than him doing us a disservice by leaving. At the end of the day, NBA players play to win championships, not rot away in a small market wasting their talents, just to be loyal to their hometown. It’s not that hard to rationalize. I know people that still hate LeBron to this day even though he came back and gave us a championship. It’s just sad bro, you can’t please anybody. Shout out to a GOAT, King James 👑 .

When Lebron left Cleveland, he didn't join Boston, he formed his own team. He never requested a trade and he won every single place he signed, regardless of how little of a future he left any team. Lakers, Heat, Cavs were nowhere *NEAR* a championship when Lebron got there and until they do, there is absolutely no argument against Lebron's management. And no, KD's decision to leave wasn't even remotely close to Lebron's and none of you actually believe it was.

I honestly think any player can win when shits get tough he hops to another Superteam every year. Cleveland Superteam. Lakers traded their whole future for this Bullshit. Heat Superteam. Guy can't help but politic his way to a title

@@edge1247 Cleveland 100% was NOT a superteam lmfao 😂 Lakers had what future??? Kuzma? Lonzo ball? Ingram? RANDLE??? 😂😂😂 That squad is getting to *MAYBE* the second round of the playoffs, nowhere *REMOTELY CLOSE* to a title.😂😂😂 That's definitely better than winning a ring, right???

@TBSandNFL LMFAO, your first statement shows you don't know shit about basketball. If you think Lebron left the heat to a Bum Cavaliers team, you are out of your damn mind. KD and the Warriors did a better Version of what Bron was doing in the East. Kevin Love was averaging 26ppg 12 rebound. Leading the softer Eastern Conference in 2016 with 57 Wins. Wtf are you talking about, no, nothing ? I don't even have to bring up Kyrie. 🤣 Where were you in 2016 ? That WAS A SUPERTEAM

I absolutely loved the LeBron Janes decision. The whole thing was hyped up because people in the media thought he was going to the New York Knicks. You could hear a pin drop when James picked Miami. I was for real ROFL. 😂😂😂😂

Bucks weren't really organic when 2 of their top 4 players were gotten via trade.

Khris Middleton was absolutely unknown at the time he was traded to Milwaukee. And making the 1 trade to get Jrue isn’t obscene in the slightest, just simply a upgrade because of Bledsoe’s choke job

Ummmm ya do know kareem played with magic and worthy! Lakers had a super team in the 80s and so did the Celtics! Hence why they met in the finals a bunch of times! Before that kareem played with the big O! Dr j played with Moses Malone! Players have always moved around, and player have always seeked to form better teams to win championships! The take the Lebron started this is lazy and ridiculous. You said shaq going to LA and then them drafting Kobe was rare! But that’s almost exactly what happened when Kareem went to the lakers in the 80s… they then drafted magic. This is laughable…. There has always been super teams in the NBA! Wilt played with Jerry west and Elgin Baylor! But they couldn’t beat the stack Celtics back then! But according to a lot of people Lebron started this whole super team thing 😆 the rockets literally had Hakeem, Barkley, and pippen for a year! What would you call that? A damn super team in the 90s! And before pippen Clyde Drexler was on that team! It’s insane to think that Lebron started that trend! Players have always moved!

I don't care that LeBron left Cleveland, I care that he needed to play with Wade & Bosh & Ray Allen to win. None of the Miami rings count on LeBrons resume. I'll give him the 1 in Cleveland and the 1 in LA. So he has 2 rings... That's it. Solid player but barely top 10 of all time

I feel the same way in my opinion I would had love to see Lebron go to the knicks and create a big 3 with Joe Johnson & A'mare Stoudemire to me that would've been the equivalent of Boston's big 3 in their primes and I think that move would be way more respectable than Miami cuz it would be his team instead of D-wade! 🤷🏿‍♂️
