Cardiovascular disease (CV) is the number one killer in the Western world. But it doesn’t need to be. The truth is that more than 75 percent of cases of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular disease events are preventable. In The Whole Heart Solution, America’s Holistic Heart Doc Joel K. Kahn, MD, reveals more than 75 simple, low-cost things you can do right away-from drinking your veggies to opening your windows to walking barefoot-to make yourself heart attack proof.
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn illustrates that a plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent the progression of heart disease but can also reverse its effects. Dr. Esselstyn is an internationally known surgeon, researcher and former clinician at the Cleveland Clinic and a featured expert in the acclaimed documentary Forks Over Knives. Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease has helped thousands across the country, and is the book behind Bill Clinton’s life-changing vegan diet.
The proof lies in the incredible outcomes for patients who have followed Dr. Esselstyn's program, including a number of patients in his original study who had been told by their cardiologists that they had less than a year to live. Within months of starting the program, all Dr. Esselstyn’s patients began to improve dramatically, and twenty years later, they remain free of symptoms.

Exactly two months ago I got out of the hospital after a second stent in three months. I went cold turkey and have been almost100% compliant with Dr. Esseltyn's guidelines. Results: Cholesterol went from 193 to 124 and LDL went from 102 to 58! A couple little slip up here and there but a true believer now! Thank you so much for your dedication to our health.

I'm at the point where I am starting to question the doctors knowledge and research. It seems to me that they have a protocol and just follow it blindly without looking at the individual cases. IMO that is lazy doctoring and the medical profession in the USA needs to be more atuned to individual patients cases. There needs to be a massive re-education about nutrition within the healthcare system.

At 63, 2heart attacks and 2 stents, went carnivore. Im now med free and thriving. Cured every chronic illness I had, and in incredibly short periods of time. Also lost 75lbs effortlessly. Cholesterol is not the enemy, insulin resistance is, caused by sugar and carbs. Every chronic illness we have in the west is only a 100yrs old. From when we changed how we eat. Saturated fat is not deadly; it is essential. Even my testosterone went from 65 to 600. 50years of abdominal pain and bloating and diarrhoea disappeared in week 1 of carnivore. Ive had zero fibre for 11mths now, and my gut health is completely normalised and background. All of our hormones and brain chemistry is driven by the gut. Cure the gut, everything else falls in line. Every vegan i have spoken to has poor gut health. Time to consider something outside the religion of the plant.

My latest cholesterol reading was 116, and I am now told I can cut the statin to 2 times a week, and just a baby aspirin.I eat entirely plant based, low fat. No oil.I also stopped plavix and metoporal; have good blood pressure. My hope is cutting the statin will get rid of this nausea and stomach issues.

However there are probably external toxins that contributing to this - biggest hidden culprit is glysophate (and GMO) - it is in corn, soya and wheat... i.m.o. is guaranteed to harm anyone who eats that produce. I love and eat everything that he says that I shouldn't aside from fast foods and processed foods. I gave up the dairy. I gave up the meat. I gave up the nuts. I gave up the fish/sea food. I gave up the processes flours. I gave up the oils. I will get tested again in a few months and see what it has all gotten me and then make adjustments from there if need be. The one good thing to come out of all this for sure is that I'm learning new cooking skills with foods that I have not eaten before. So far, so delicious. I was tested for cholesterol and my numbers came back 195 ldl and 56 hdl. I refused a statin, so my both my cardiologist and primary care, knowing that i was on a plant-based diet, suggested that i do a calcium scoring, to put their minds at ease. My cardiologist called me personally when my results came back, .5% in one artery...she said I was her poster-child and that she wanted to put my excellent results on the wall of her office. She said that she could not rationalize putting me on a statin. so my opinion (along with Dr. Esselstyn) is that the "numbers" are only a piece of the cholesterol puzzle and that genetics can play a role. btw, my diagnostics were performed at a major, reputable, medical clinic

This is what Esselstyn taught his patients, about the nuts, but I'm not a cardiac patient and eat an exact measured, small amount of nuts that are least addictive. Nuts are easy to just grab some and some nuts are more addicting to others. First, no salt is what I go for and raw unless they are roasted without oil and not addictive like the no salt peanuts by Planters. Almonds have some health benefit but too addictive so I'm finishing the pack I have. However, walnuts are not to me there's a slightly bitter taste to it, and the general taste isn't addictive to me, but I will be eating 1 ounce daily once weight loss is complete. If i was a cardiac patient I definitely wouldn't have any nuts, though.

It backfired big time. So, for me, it’s my genes. I’m just saying this to help others who might have the same problem I do. I still eat plant-based … in fact I always have. My maternal grandparents both died of heart attacks before they were fifty years old. Evidently I got unlucky. Having a heart scan in a week. But I’m very sad and disappointed. I’ve followed this doctor and McDougall for years. I feel slightly mislead. Some of us cannot do it by diet alone. For me, now I’m in the danger zone. Could it be both WFPB and keto type diets work in reducing cardiovascular disease? Is see a lot of bickering going on between these 2 camps. Im lead to believe that sugars & carbs combined with fat in the typical western diet is what causes insulin resistance, type ll diabetes, higher cholesterol levels and ultimately cardiovascular disease. The WFPB diet aims to eliminate the fat. The keto diet aimed to eliminate sugar & carbs. Seems to me that either approach will work. Also note that at the end of the video Dr. Esselstyn says that if he’s wrong at least he didn’t hurt anyone.

Ldl drops if you eat corn oil, or in my case, canola. The body substitutes plant sterols for cholesterol in your cell nembrabes etc. However half the people with heart attacks don't have high ldl, so you're not safe if your LDL is normal. If your triglycerides are over 100 you are running on glucose and not fat and your triglyceride to hdl ratio is super important . Low hdl high triglycerides spells trouble. If your triglycerides are high your HbA1c also probably is high and that's a far better determinant for t2d and thus heart disease than ldl. Eliminate all sources of inflammation and you won't have heart disease. T2d is inflammation.

My cholesterol almost halved from over 300, my blood pressure went to when I was in my early 20s despite the blockages and I lost 70 pounds with a body fat percentage of 10% - no medication or exercise. Then after a couple of years I started eating a bit of this and occasional that and over three years put back 50 pound with all the cholesterol and blood pressure consequences. Halfway through losing it again and being plant-based. I also add time-restricted eating where I finish eating quite early in the day - this assists autophagy.

@budte
@budte Год назад
@@Iwillroastthesocksoffyoass From what I have read I suspect you can halt its progress, but reversal not so much if it has calcified with age. Those that claim reversal seem to be younger and perhaps have earlier stage, less established blockages. But really, there is no conclusive evidence either way. What does seem likely is that it does not matter if your blockages do not actually rupture and cause a heart attack and the plant-based no oil diet appears to stabilise plaques making them unlikely to rupture. That is what appears to have happened with Dr Esselstyns patients who have survived for decades. There was an experiement where they gave pigs heart disease and then followed that by giving half of them grapefruit for six months. When they sacrificed the pigs those eating grapefruit had reversed their blockages, but of course, these would have been comparatively soft new blockages. I did eat a whole red grapefruit every morning for a year or so, but it stripped the enamel off my teeth and they became sensitive (needs to be red grapefruit).
