Hey Matt, love the breakdown, there’s also a lot of research now into the benefits of playing multiple sports as a kid so I wouldn’t discount that experience too much in terms of hindering your soccer career as it may have actually helped you get to where you are despite being a late bloomer! I grew up playing Basketball, Soccer and Cricket and even played Indoor Cricket for my state & for Australia before switching to Australian Rules Football when I was 17- I then got signed to my first semi-pro team when I was 19! Still playing semi-pro (currently 22) and have had multiple trials with teams at the pro level hoping to make that step up. There’s no way I would’ve done 10,000 hours of work towards Aussies Rules, I’ve probably only done a couple thousand because I started so late, but I’ve probably put in 10,000 hours of sport training in total across all my sports!
@supremepassion17

Great content for the upcoming footballers out there, Matt! Yet, what I do believe is that you have hit the 10,000 hours a bit earlier, since as you said, you only included the physical part. However, I think that after training, whether you are alone or not and reflecting on what you need to do, in order to improve this or that, I still believe this is where you also grow. Another thing I want to share is the fact that it seems as if teams in the US do not train as much in terms of hours. Yes, it is about quality after all, but another 30-40minutes extra could be done from teams from time to time, if not always. Keep it up and stay healthy!

I was a very late bloomer.. I started getting into football at like the age of 10 and I was only playing normal football with friends at recess.. at 13 I developed a passion for it and began training alone and became very gd.. I’m now 16 but I feel like I missed out on a lot and may have to face the fact that I may never become a professional football player but am grateful for everything.

You can still be a late bloomer to become pro. Some folks don’t kick on auntil later years, and sometimes they have development spurts where things click a lot more in a short period of time. Confidence is the most important factor.

Great video. Learned a lot to encourage and help my daughter achieve her goals. The only think I would say is I think your other sports would count are not a waste of time. I watch a lot of America pro interviews and I have heard several say that basketball at the younger ages helped them and one said she would not have made it pro without the experience she had playing basketball. My daughter is 11 now and only plays basketball to make her better at soccer. I am in encouraging her to run track for a year or 2. I worry about her doing a little to much at her age. What do you think, can she overwork her body at this age?

And would you recommend a 14-18 year old play in adult Sunday leagues for their development?

@@Claw2725 My point is that you can incorporate the ball in your hi it work. Set a stop watch and go as intensely as you can for one minute, then rest for one minute or do something less intense like juggling. If you want to make it a little more physical, add ten jump lunges before your rest. Repeat that type of pattern for a half hour. That will help more than two hour sessions.

Is there anyone, who has mitral valve prolapse and plays in a club or academy? I was examined by a non-sport doctor who told me to give up football but i heard that many athletes has the same heart problem. I would be grateful, if someone can share their experience

Q&A Matt, how do you grind out training on the days when you just don’t feel like it. Or how do you still have that motivation even on off days?
@emanuelb4289
@emanuelb4289 3 года назад
Just think that when you don’t feel like training for whatever reason, someone is and is working more than you. You not being where you want to be should be enough motivation.

This shows why becoming elite in the UK is so much harder. 3.3 million undee 15 year olds play organised football every week. Most train oncevir twice for their club and play matches once or twice a week. Football is played in schools in the breaks but also in school teams. Kids who are decent often play for their district tooo or in development centres. I reckon most engaged kids have done 10, 000 hors by 14/15. Especially considering many toddler football schools start at 3 years of age.
