But half of Indonesian local languange around 350 languanges in West Papua (part of Indonesia) 😅 and Papua New guinea hasa 800 languange so just Papua Island had more than 1000 languanges
True. Im a chinese born Indonesian in central Sulawesi, lives in east java for 13 years, went to melbourne for my master degree and currently working in Osaka, Japan. So i speak mandarin, hokkien, kaili, bugis, english, japanese and javanese 😅
@@Tamochiki1403gak ada hubungannya, kalau punya rasa nasionalisme, sekalian aja gak belajar bahasa daerah dan bahasa inggris, kan anggapannya bahasa lain itu gak guna
Indonesian is already bilingual from birth, their native language and the indonesian language, after learning English in school or just learning it by themselves over the year, they become trilingual.
Exactly how I speak 4 languages today. It's because my first language was Indonesian and I grew up learning Hokkien because both of my parents are Medanese. But when I entered school for the first time, I was taught English and Mandarin Chinese at the same time. Unfortunately despite living in Bali for 13 years, I've missed the opportunity of mastering Balinese even after I learned it for about 5 years.
My wife is half Indo. Her parents were from Java. She retains part of the Indo language. But Dutch is her native language. I’ve heard there’s somewhere around 800 different forms in Indonesia.
It's the same here in India; everybody speaks at least three languages: the local language, Hindi, and English. I can speak Gurjar, Marathi (local languages), Hindi, English, and Japanese, and I am currently learning Indonesian.
Yes. Minimum they can speak 3 language. Local language like Javanese, Sundanese, Sumatra, Bali. And then Nasional Language, the Bahasa Indonesia, and the language that they learn from School, can be english, germany, or arabic.
True im from Java but i can only speak one type of sundanese which is the textbook version that is taught in the school. I'm not pure sundanese they're just too good in their own language😂😂😂 I used to have a friend in highschool and I'll always ask them to help me with Sunda homework
There are about 700 languages in Indonesia, I myself am from Pontianak west Kalimantan, my language is Malay specifically pontianak Malay (anyway, pontianak Malay is like Riau Malay), in northern of west Kalimantan there is sambas Malay that is so different from Pontianak Malay, but both languages are categorized as Malay, in addition there is also dayak language in west Kalimantan
Every Indonesian people, since we are kids, grows up with Indonesian language and local or mother language. And if we go, and live to other province, we can also learn the local language from that place
Bruh... I'm Indonesian and it's normal Indonesian girls look. You should come to visit to get a gf😂 but still lots of foreigners in Bali use dating apps to approach us. I live in Bali btw
I'm chinese, born in riau islands province, near singapore and malaysia. From my environment, there is many chinese can speak at least 4-5 languages. 1. Indonesia 2. Mandarin 3. English 4. Hokkien Dialect (because this is majority of chinese there) 5. Tiochew Dialect (ethnic from my father) 6. Hakka Dialect (minority of chinese, from my mother) and this dialect has some simmiliar with cantonese 7. Malay (the original langguage for riau island province) And because i had work travelling everywhere, and had learn : 8. Manado 9. Javanese little bit And since i married with my wife, which is batak ethnic 10. Batak little bit And some of langguages i just know how to count 1-10, like padang, sunda, japan, etc
I met a couple once who both could speak many languages but several were not the same so between them they could speak over a dozen different languages. I think one of them was from Macao but I'm not sure of the other one. I know they included Hokkien Fukien and Dutch as well as English.
I speak only 2 language, i was born on jakarta, and live on Tangerang, And People from Tangerang speak original Indonesian language, idk, I speak English and Indonesian 😄
Indonesia has the most trilingual speakers in the world, so most of us can speak at least 3 languages (with varying degree of fluency 😂): 1. our national language Bahasa Indonesia, 2. our local/traditional languages (Javanese/Sundanese/Balinese/Bataknese, etc.), 3. and at least one foreign language (English/Japanese/Dutch, etc.) It's even become the motto of our Language Centre "Prioritize our national language, Preserve our local/traditional languages, and Master some foreign languages."
In India its the same.... Can speak read and write 6 languages in varying degrees I'm from southern Indian city called Bangalore mother tongue is Tamil local language is Kannada Widely spoken in northern India Hindi Traditional language in temples Sanskrit Neighbouring states language Telugu and Malayalam in varying degrees For jobs and career English
Lol it applies to the rest of the world especially asia. My country doesnt even consider our local languages as language but dialects not to mention the dialects and the dialects categorized in one dialects and the dialects categorized under even smaller dialects 😂
believe it or not, most of indonesian at least speak 4 languages, their mother language (usually used at home), their local language (in case they living in different area from where their mom came from, for example their mom are Javanese and living in bali), indonesia language, and english... and alot of people could speak more than 2 local language, people from java usually could speak batak, sunda, or even dayak..
Yes thats true...i can speak 2 local languages fluently..because my mom language is different to my father language.. even they are from the same regency (kabupaten)..😅😅😅.. and then i can understand my neighboar vilage local language, i can speak a lil bit , but not fluent. ...so , i can speak 3 local languages.😅
I'm an Indo (half English), and my family heritage is from the highlands of South Sulawesi. Their local dialect is Pattinjo. Because my grandfather was a soldier when he was younger, he moved to an army base by a river that seperates the highlands from the flatlands (the Buginese) before settling just outside of it. So in my village we speak Pattinjo, but literally a mile down the road people start talking Buginese. It's a whole different kettle of fish for a language. I myself went to a Buginese school where I had to study the dialect and calligraphy. So not only do I speak Indonesian with Pattinjo slang, but I can understand some Buginese and some Pattinjo. Meanwhile, my Pattinjo speaking brother married a Buginese woman (about 3-4 miles down the road), and he sounds pretty dumb when trying to talk Buginese to her friends. This is kind of why Bahasa Indonesia is important for the nation, since it's centralised; it's the equivalent of a German speaking English to a Frenchman.
I believe it's entirely a new language, Javanese has several dialects. Ppl from java can understand other region dialects as long as it's javanese, but javanese or sundanese or balinese can not understand yours
I'm from East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.. i speak a few Language...like dawanese (Timor Local Language, from my father), Javanese (Cause my mom from Java), Bahasa Indonesia as my national language.. others Language like Korean, Dutch, And English as well😅 i can say Indonesian especially for children who have parents from different region, used to speak more Language for daily
Even in one language, for example Javanese, there are several level of politeness, they are non polite or informal (Ngoko), semi formal (madya), polite/formal ( kromo) also high kromo (kromo Inggil). Every level is like different language because the vocabulary is different. If someone mastering Ngoko, madya and kromo, he just like mastering 3 languages.
I speak javanese (ngoko only). Tbh I don't understand Krama. They are like different language for me. My nephew once speak Krama to me, I don't know many words from Krama that I speak bahasa Indonesia with him. Then how do I speak with elderly especially strangers? I use bahasa indonesia. Not the krama 😂😭🙏🏼
Initially I thought all Indonesians spoke Bahasa Indonesia. Then when I went to Indonesia (Bali & Jakarta) I realised that there are many languages & dialects. Realised its similar to my country India. But I think Indonesia has more languages.
those are completely different languages not just dialects, dude.. like English, Arabic, n then Mandarin.. yes exactly like that cause all languages have their own alphabet.. if I write the word "Indonesia" it will be like this: 🇮🇩 Sundanese : ᮄᮔ᮪ᮓᮧᮔᮦᮞᮤᮃ 🇮🇩 Balinese : ᬇᬦ᭄ᬤᭀᬦᬾᬲᬶᬬ 🇮🇩 Javanese in Javanese Scripts : ꦆꦤ꧀ꦢꦺꦴꦤꦺꦱꦶꦪ 🇮🇩 Javanese in Pegon Scripts : إندَونٓسييا 🇮🇩 Malay in Jawi Scripts : إندونيسيا 🇮🇩 Buginese : ᨕᨗᨊᨉᨚᨊᨙᨔᨗᨕ basically, every ethnic group in Indonesia can't communicate with each other.. we use Indonesian as a lingua franca.. If the characters turn into squares, it means ur phone is not supported..
@@ashmusic621 just more info for u.. but indeed every language has dialects.. like example Javanese : 🇮🇩 Mataram-Javanese 🇮🇩 Ngapak-Javanese 🇮🇩 Cirebon-Javanese 🇮🇩 Aneman-Javanese 🇮🇩 Arekan-Javanese 🇮🇩 Tengger-Javanese 🇮🇩 Osing-Javanese 🇮🇩 Transmigrant-Javanese - depending on which part of Indonesia they live in, the local language might influence their dialect.. 🇸🇷 Surinamese-Javanese - 133 years ago the Dutch brought the Javanese to Suriname, so there is a large population of Javanese in Suriname now.. They still use Javanese, but the pronunciation, intonation n some words may be mixed with Dutch.. Sometimes they come to Indonesia to look for their Javanese roots.. But they can communicate with each other.. Cause they use the same language (in this case Javanese) n they have the same alphabet.. only their dialects are different.. like Americans-English, British-English n Australians-English.. basically Javanese can be written using 3 ways.. Modern-Javanese, Pegon Scripts, n Latin Alphabet.. Modern-Javanese has roots from Pallava Scripts used in South India.. Pegon Scripts have Arabic roots.. Pegon Scripts can also be used to write Sundanese n Madurese.. Pegon Scripts are related to Jawi Scripts which are used to write Malay, Minangkabau, Acehnese, Banjarese, Kerinci, etc.. Pegon n Jawi are related to Urdu n Persian Alphabet..
Our ancestors even speak more than that. Our first president can speak more than 10 languages. As well as our second and third precident. Our third president, Bapak Bj. Habibie is even fluent in German, English, Indonesian and able to speak other languages.
@@jajajajajaja1 Agreed. Honestly, the reason I can speak English fluently is because I learn it on my own. English curriculum in my village is just a mess.
That’s universal to every language with the exception of hunter gatherers probably, but even many of those languages most likely have some degree of formality vs casuality
@@qwerty9714true true, but I believe op worded it a bit wrong. What he meant to say is that some languages here have tiers. For example, in general the Sundanese language is divided into two, polite and rude, where some words and tone can be different (me: abdi, polite; aing, rude). So different Sundanese community will use either the polite or rude language. There's also the infamous Javanese language that has 3 tiers. Now, I'm not going to pretend that I know Javanese but I do know that each tiers are really different. And to them that isn't enough, because each Javanese community have their own dialect. So like, the "polite" version of Javanese language that's spoken by community A is different from community B and C and so on, and the same with the "rude" version. So yeah, it gets complicated. But, not all languages here are like that. Some are pretty straight forward where some ethnicities doesn't have tiers, or at least not as complicated as the two languages that I mentioned
Indonesia have more than 700+ languages. i can speak : -indonesia -padang(Minang kabau) -bengkulu -rejang(local languages from Bengkulu) -palembang -javanesse -melayu -jambi -english so many languages that's we have in Indonesia,i can't speak all of these languages lol
Javanese itself has its own language that completely different if we talk to older, friend, or young people 😂 plus it has many variations of diction in each region
Some people says, Bahasa Palembang and Bahasa Jambi is a dialect of the bigger family of Bahasa Melayu. There's a lot of dialect of Bahasa Melayu because they are welcome widespread in the coastal sumatra, malaya peninsula, kalimantan, and the small islands between those area.
even I, enoughly amazed with browned skin sundanese.. sundanese itself had a natural beauty, with fairly yellowish tend to white skin, then combined with sawomatang skin and U got this thing..
Saya bukan dari Indonesia. Saya ingin bepergian ke Indonesia. Melihat Bali. That's all I've learned so far in 3 days. ;-) Hope that's correct. Thanks for sharing this.
That's correct, but you have to explore more, because Bali is not one of the beautiful Island in Indonesia, you can go to Raja Ampat,Labuan bajo, danau toba, pink beach (pulau komodo), etc. Hope you can reach your dream soon ♡
@@aiko9393 Thank you. Meanwhile I'd say even little conversations are possible. Like "Where is this building?" Or "Where is the guy? He's over there." "In this building?" "No, in the other building." It’s true, Sundanese and Javanese cant even understand each other. One time I heard a Javanese acquaintance said “kenapa bahasa Sunda kayak bahasa dari planet lain ya?” (“Why does Sundanese sound like a language from another planet?”) and I can’t stop myself from burst out laughing😂😂
I heard from my friend that tribes from Papua use Bahasa Indonesia when they meet or fight, because they totally don't understand each other's languages.
@pipoppang lebih ke dialek daerah bukan bahasa. benda bahasa satu je, kata lain terus cop bahasa lain. padahal sama boleh paham je antara satu sama lain. Lmao klaim
I always envy people who speaks 3 languages and up. You guys are so smart. While me I only knew 2 languages my mother tongue(tagalog) and english(still struggling)
Indonesian mostly can speak more than 2 or 3 language. They can speak Indonesian,English, and their own native language, like if you born from Batak's tribe you can speak Batak's language, and when you live in Java island you will adapt the java language too....and more if you had a lot of friend from others tribe's,and if you like Kpop or Kdrama, you gonna learn Koreans a little bit too and we mostly know Malay language too😂😂😂And as a moslem we learn arabic too.... Ps: I know Indonesian,Arabic,Javanesse,Batak,Betawi,Malay,English,Sundanesse(a little bit),and learning Korean now.
For myself. I speak at least 6 languages now. 1. Javanese "Ngapak" which is the language where I was born 2. Javanese "Kromo" 3. Of course Indonesian "Bahasa" 4. I am Moslem, so I studied the language of the Holy Quran since i was kid, Arabic 5. I studied in Jogja, which made me fluent in the Javanese language "Yogyanan" 6. I worked in Japan for almost 4 years, of course I had to speak Japanese additional: because I have several friends from different regions so I understand a little bit of their languages such as "Sundanese", "Batak/North Sumatra", and Javanese "Jowo Timuran" Edit : I forgot that I was using English now, and of course we have studied it since elementary school 😂 So i speak 7 languages now 😅
No you speak only 5. Because ngapak, javanese kromo and yogyanan are same. The difference only the level from those Javanese language. You speak bahasa, Arabic ,Javanese, japanese, English thats all
I think you're one of few trilingual speakers in Indonesia there is, I mean not many can speak japanese and english who also be able to speak locals's languages as well
Just like philippines. Many local languages like chabacano, hiligaynon, karay - a, akeanon, cuyunin, bisaya, tagalog etc.. like every provinces have their own local languages .
Fun fact is, even in Java alone they have a different local language in every 100-200 kilometers. Let's say like Cirebon and Bandung, they are in the same province but have the different language. Cilacap, Banjarnegara, Purwokerto, are in the same province, not too far each other, and in the same type of javanese language (ngapak javanese), but they have some different words and accents.
Saya suka dia bicara full English, artinya dia mampu berbahasa Inggris beneran. Dari pada yang suka nyampur-nyampur Bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia biar kelihatan keren padahal itu nanti bisa merusak bahasa seperti kejadian di Malaysia.
They speak the local language where they live, and they speak their mother's languange, their father's language, and then Indonesian language.. I'm from Indonesia and i believe every woman definitely beautiful in their own way, Beauty is indeed subjective and unique to each individual. Appreciating the beauty of every woman, regardless of societal standards or conventional norms, is a positive and inclusive mindset. It's important to recognize and celebrate the diverse forms of beauty that exist in the world. By embracing and valuing individuality, we can foster a more inclusive and accepting society.

And to make things even more complicated we have caste system in Bali which is fine language for people that have honorable caste, middle language for ordinary people, and harsh language for animals or your close friends. Indonesia has more than 700 hundred language. But our national language is Bahasa Indonesia. Most of Indonesian are bilingual. Wkwkw gak gitu Cok.. Faham bahasa setiap daerah
I speak 1. Melayu language (indonesia) and several dialect of it 2. Javanese from my father (and its dialects such as Cirebonese etc) 3. Sundanese from my mother 4. Arabic 5. English
In fact by percentage of population, Indonesia is the most trilingual country in the world. Able to speak their local language as mother tongue, Bahasa Indonesia as National Language, and English as International Language.
In Indonesia we used to speak in 3-4 languages, which are Bahasa Indonesia, English, or a local languages (some people can speak 2-4 local languages) and in some local languages have some levels to speak, um like the high and the low levels, the high one used to speak with elder or in noble family, and the lower one used to speak with your friends.
Well, most Indonesians are polyglot since we have many local languages. That's why, it's not that difficult to learn another foreign languages ( compared to Japanese or Korean who speaks only in single language)
Thank you Zoey for your open heart and strong will. I learned Chinese to connect with my in laws, and once I got an intermediate level it felt so much better to feel part of the family! You will make it for sure and get the sense of belonging you have been looking for 😊

A lot of young adults in Indonesia now can speak 3-4 languages. Local/tribal one, national Indonesia, International English, and in addition, because majority of Indonesian are Muslim, we can speak Arabic, or for IndoChinese, they speak Mandarin. Also, its common for us to speak 2 local languanges because there are a lot of us is migrated from our original province to another province
