@@rhynouk1 not true at all, Paul could have retired after the beatles broke up, he had the money to do it but he didn't, he still wanted to make music and he went in to start Wings and then a very successful solo career and his wife helped him do it because he ended up with depression after that Beatles broke up. Many artists today only do it for the money and it shows in their music, not writing their own songs, backing tracks, auto tune, showy performances instead of singing and no instruments. It was different back then because you had to be way more creative than you do now to get a record deal so only the best got into the charts.

On the other hand, neither Pet Sounds nor Dark Side of the Moon were number 1 albums in the UK. The Beatles managed to have number 1 albums, but also rewrote the rules about what could be done with an album.

Not true. You may think that one or the other wrote the bulk of a song they each brought to the table, but John and Paul always had their fingers in each other's pies so to speak. To one of your examples, Come Together may have been written by John, but it was Paul adding the swampy bass line and the catchy drum beat that made the song so unique. They each wrote their own songs, but most of the time the finished product was a creation completed by both of them together (along with George and Ringo sometimes too) that made each song so Beatle-esque.

@@ernestomartinez4090 the fact that you listed Tomorrow Never Knows as a John Lennon song just goes to show how much you don't realize the depth of collaboration between Lennon and McCartney. (John was literally reading lines from the Tibetan Book of the Dead and the tape loops on TNK are all Paul's). I do agree that there was a lot of songs written on The White Album in particular and the Let It Be album as well in which John's songs were mostly his own, and Paul's were his own creations. But even some of the songs you listed besides TNK like Norwegian Wood, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Ticket to Ride etc, they may have started out as songs John brought to the studio, but they were definitely fully realized and finished as collaborations. Even Hey Jude, which was primarily a Paul song, had input from John, (the line about "the movement you need is on your shoulder" which Paul was going to change) and if Paul hadn't taken John's suggestion it would have ultimately made it a different song, however slight of a change it would have been. So in fact, a lot of their songs were legitimately Lennon/McCartney whether their input on the song was 50/50, 75/25, 90/10 or whatever.
