There's one bit of streamlining you could have done early on: If you have Oatchi subject to an elemental hazard, he'll be allowed access to gear and training that protects him from those hazards much earlier. Basically all of the waiting on the electric fences would have been bypassed if you just settled on giving Oatchi some shock therapy.
Literally the first day's task should be to round up the elemental hazards and tell Oatchi to rush in muzzle first. Finally, a game where animal cruelty is the meta play. I've also completed an 8 pikmin run, it was pretty fun! Definitely recommend it to people interested in replaying the game with a twist.
This is the best strategy in Pikmin 4, as the first time Oatchi takes damage from any element, you will unlock the nullifier for it, which is really useful (heck even Water is nullified once Oatchi learns to swim)
@@LoyaLPikmin Well, if you watch the video I'm sure you'll discover how. I stopped at defeating Louie, rather than grind the 100 purple necessary for the gold bar.
You know, despite how frequent and common it is, this is the first time I've really thought about how _ridiculous_ it is that this random rookie is 100x more competent than basically every other (presumably) trained professional.
Well they ARE being controlled by (presumably) pikmin professionals as well as the pikmin and goatchi doing 90% of the work for them they really just tell them what to do
This rookie is pretty useless on it's own, and none of the other members have been trained on the use of Pikmin. The only extremely strange thing is the immediate connection to Oatchi.
In Dandori the Leaflings state that all the pikmin inside are THEIRS, so technically you can collect all of them because they aren't yours The challenge is more fun doing it your way though :)
I find this far more interesting than the minimum pikmin runs in 1 2 and 3. In those ones the minimum number was dictated only by the bag or wall that needed the most pikmin, making everything before it pointless. Because of oatchi, the challenge becomes much more creative and fun.
Fun fact! It's actually not necessary to get the ice pikmin in Last-Frost Cavern. It's possible to move the paint-tube treasure near the snowy blowhog and then have Oatchi repeatedly ram into the paint tube in order to very gradually move the snowy blowhog, and you can then use its icy breath to freeze the hydro jellies for you instead. It's extremely tedious and takes about 30 minutes just to execute, but it's an option! Edit: You can also get to the remaining treasures in Dream Home without Oatchi; if you toss down a bomb rock the explosion can knock your captain onto the mushrooms to bounce you across. But still a really well done run and video! Great job!
Another way more easy is just skip that cave and move on to the fire cave to rescue the castway (obligatory the first castaway that you rescue is russel don't matter where) and then buy ice bomb rocks to freeze the hydro jellies
@@iangomez9161 Unfortunately you can't get to the castaway in Crackling Cauldron without either getting Russ elsewhere or recruiting yellow Pikmin, since you need to break down an electric wall to get below the first sublevel. Since those are the only two dungeons you can reach before Oatchi grows up, moving the blowhog slowly is the only way to avoid getting an eighth Pikmin.

@@Lewis777-jn8jw His heart is directly tied to the condition of his ship. Someone comes over and kicks it while he's away and he has a fucking heart attack
I'm amazed at just how much of the game you can complete with only 8 pikmin. Also, it was really interesting to see all the differences between this and Bowborb's pikminless run (his rule was that you can only use pikmin when they're required and you have to end each day with 0 total pikmin)
56:10 you can actually get this with glow pikmin, if you charge them onto it they will be able to grab onto it and lower it, it’ll stay lowered during the day
Can't you get into a different cave first, and therefore potentially avoid that ice pikmin? You'll get Russ no matter which cave you do, and then you can get ice bombs from him for the hydro jelly in Last-frost.
Loved this! Quick question, do you plan to do the Olimar story and Sage Leafling challenges? It is okay if you want to protect your mental sanity, but I thought I would ask.
Your videos have fried my brain into perceiving Space Land's music as an outro song (and associating it with the cat bobbing its head) so much that it no longer sounds right playing on its associated board.
Oh- regarding the Dream Home, I did a similar challenge and noticed that there is actually a way to get a purple Pikmin to the other side of the bag that needs to be pushed down, without oatchi-simply, manipulate a purple so it grabs the card on the ledge, and the path takes it right past the bag, so if you carefully whistle it, the purple Pikmin will walk right in front of the bag! …however, there appears to be some sort of failsafe that prevents the Pikmin from latching on to the bag, as there appears to be an invisible wall in the way. I managed to get the Pikmin to path to the bag, but they weren’t able to get past the invisible wall, and eventually gave up. So, unless somebody else figures a way to disable that failsafe it doesn’t look like my discovery matters. (Depending on how the failsafe works there may be a way around it. For instance, maybe if I switched to a different captain who was higher than the bag vertically it would be disabled? It is weird, though… I didn’t think that other bags had failsafes like this. And yes, I did check that the issue wasn’t that the bag’s destination was obstructed.)
0:55 I thought you were gonna say something along the lines of "the rookie studied Biology so they know the danger of invasive species", but not wanting to share the credit with the Pikmin is way funnier than it should. XD
Not sure if it helps, but you CAN lower that handle in Dream Den with enough Glow Pikmin, that and the one in SST. Using Glow Mob at just the right angle can latch 1-3 onto the handle, but you'll probably need more than 20 to have that work. That's how I was able to skip Yellow/Winged Pikmin in my "Least Pikmin Types run" (spoiler: you only need Reds, Purples, and Glow to get everything in the game).
In the dream home, you actually can get over those mushrooms if you walk in a weirdly specific way. I had to do it in my no oatchi run that i did, but it took a while.
52:08 you can actually attack the body of the bloomcap bloyster, im pretty sure the idea of the enemy is that you are supposed to attack the weak point so you can charge it. Sorry if people had already said this a lot
People Say “Blue Pikmin are useless in Pikmin 4” Technically this proves all of them can be rendered useless except 8 Pikmin that basically formed the avengers also if he used swallow this would be 10x easier
The Mysterious Carriage is collectable without 10 Yellow Pikmin. Go to the third night mission of the Sun-Speckled Terrace. Keep charging your Glow Pikmin at the clipboard using your Glowmob. Eventually 10 will hang on and lower the clipboard. Come back during the day and the clipboard will be lowered and you can get the treasure. Sadly that damn bag in Engulfed Castle does prevent a lot of treasures from being collected in Serene Shores with only 7 (8 in your run) pikmin. However the Stately Rubber Cutie is possible to collect. Winged Pikmin will eventually get it if you keep charging at the wall next to it. Treasures that need more than 7 pikmin to collect: 1: Scaly Custard (Web, 10 weight) 2: Glinty Circular Disc (Engulfed Castle bag) 3: Noble Goo (Engulfed Castle bag) 4: Juicy Gaggle (Engulfed Castle bag) 5: Amiguous Hostel (Engulfed Castle bag) 6: Heroine's Tear (Engulfed Castle bag) 7: Lesser Mock Bottom (Engulfed Castle bag) 8: Telekenesis Detector (Need 10 Winged Pikmin) 9: King of Meats (300 weight) 10: Golden Vaulting Table (1000 weight)
2:00 surprisingly, you can lose pikmin here, but somewhat rare and you can use the yellow pikmin cave to get russ, as you can find a cheeky angle to throw reds up in that cave.
Marathoning these backwards while I do pokemon breeding! I cannot begin to blame you for not counting the pikmin that get forced on you, then just evaporate. For a challenge like this, it feels easier to just go "they don't exist" than to jump through hoops on how they factor in.
I once did a challenge run where I could only use 1 of each Pikmin type... Yes, that means that (aside from Oatchi) I could only have three Pikmin out at once, except for a few very specific times in caves. The only thing that really stopped me was a single clipboard bridge in the final cave that require 20 pikmin to pull down, I had to cheat using glow pikmin in order to progress (I couldn't get 100% though). Also, just a tip, you can technically skip getting ice pikmin if you use ice bombs (which you unlock later on) for most of the ice-related puzzles. You can also use the pebble pitcher to break gates/walls you would otherwise need Pikmin to break (including crystal walls you normally need rocks for). This game is surprisingly lenient with what you can get away with.
Fun fact: The Empress Bulblax in Cavern for a King has enough space for you (and only you) to stand in front of her face and not get squished. Let's you get a safe, but extremely extremely slow right.
You can use ice blasts from Russ/two player mode to skip the hydro jellies at the first cave Edit: also throwing the rocks in the two player mode for the electric gates
PNF-404 is not really the planet's name. It's a reference to the HTML code 404, which is page not found. In Pikmin's case, it's planet not found, as in the planet is not (yet) in any of the databases.
So when you say "day 5" or "day 18", is that the actual day # or are you merely using it as a story-telling device? Because if you actually did it that fast, I feel bad cause it took me way longer than you even with *an order of magnitude* more Pikmin 😂
58:50 not sure if you mention it in the video, but you can actually guide the pikmin to do that paper bag if you use the lineup trumpet upgrade you get from completing the musical missions
I’m 5 minutes in to this video. You can go to the Crackling Cauldron cave first and get the castaway there and then you can unlock Russ and come back to Last Forst cavern later with ice bombs.
I attempted to get all possible treasures and castaways with just 7 pikmin and P2. You can skip past wild pikmin by rushing with Oatchi, wild pikmin don't interact with the captain or Oatchi if you rush from far enough back and stop once you get far enough away. Within Crackling Cauldron you can just barely get any pikmin type, except purples, onto the bricks to get both the castaway and two treasures without P2. Since you can get to this cave on day 2 you can get Russ from this cave since all castaways are in a set order (except Leaflings). You can get the track piece in ultimate testing range using Oatchi's swallow ability to get the track onto the edge of the platform and push it so Oatchi can reach it from the other side, where he grabs it and falls with it in his mouth, the game puts Oatchi back on his last known point on land with the treasure still in his mouth. Glow pikmin can theoretically (I haven't done it with the minimum number) reach the yellow board handle which can allow you to get it. I have videos which can allow you to get the music box in BA and get Oatchi across the gap in Dream Home. I've seen a video where Oachi is able to get additional height from a bomb rock launching him while he is on top of an onion. The winged onion's path goes past the ledge if you destroy the mould and have the landing site in its default location.
So from the lightning round of treasures at the end, it seems that to 99% the game you need 20 pikmin, and to 100% you need 100- not bad. I went way overboard in my first casual playthrough, with something like 1200 pikmin by the end. Im now wondering how much of the game can be completed with just good boi oatchi, besides that annoying gameboy at the start?
58:48 if you charge oatchi so he bounces off that mushroom to the left of the bridge you can get him to the other side without lowering it! Pretty cool
A Bunch of treasure he got he coulda saved some time on, like the Middle Management Tankcar you can just run to the other side and if you aim your pikmin right, throw them up on the ledge and they will go and get it, thats how I got it in my No Oatchi run
Minimum amount of pikmin to beat the game is 7 not 8. It is possible to throw red pikmin onto the platform with the castaway in Crackling Cauldron sublevel 2 if you have the right angle and try enough times. This unlocks Russ and lets Oatchi get BEEG. Then go through the game until you get ice bombs and you can use those to get the castaway in Last-Frost Cavern later.
Also you can throw pikmin into Candypop Buds but not enough to make them spit seeds and then leave the sublevel and that removes pikmin from the game without them showing as sprouted or dead.
@@Kurtlenhe said he didnt want to destroy pikmin with candypop buds. As that goes against the whole point of the challenge. Beating pikmin 4 with as few pikmin as possible.

I love this, in other pikmin games you needed glitches (or in 2, killing a planet's worth of enemies in a cave) to do a minimum pikmin challenge, but they designed this game so badly that you can beat the game, with little difficulty (the majority of the time) and following the game's rules, with only 8 pikmin and the stupid dog. No, more than that, under those restrictions you damn near 100%ed the game! That's how busted this stupid game's design is, and a big part of why I hate it so much.
