The lovely thing about spoken-word storytelling is that it's not the same as reciting or reading from a book; different storytellers will tell subtly different versions of a story, they don't all have to be the same :)
Azazel Infinity No, the original says every hundred years. As I write this comment I am looking in my book of all 211 stories, at The Shepherd Boy and it says “every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on it,”

Yeah because he can't actually do that because it's infinity and seconds are finite and therefore not infinite but that's kind of the point of the whole story which personally I think is one hell of a cool story.
Still he answered the king’s three questions like a wise man and was allowed to dwell with the king in his royal palace and was regarded and as the king’s own child. This it the ending of the original story if you could not tell.
