That's awesome, unfortunately now adays that would be, difficult to say the least because doctors use a series of over 16 different charts, and use random ones for random patients.
My grandad passed a driving assessment as well with glaucoma, Could barely see anything out of 1 of his eyes. he simply ran through difficutiEs he might face being convincing, with an insttructor in the car aand prepared. He was sent to be tested, In his 80s, and there were 2 young lads that were there, no doubt for some stupid conviction and they were both braggging about how good they were as drivers, especially in difficult conditions. My granddad was shrewd and crafty, and my dad still laughs to this day, that he passed with one eye, and both those lads failed.
Its a fucking joke that Bisping isnt bigger in the UK. The man is the first English Champ, and he did it one short notice with one fucking eye. absolute fucking legend.
I was born with only one working eye... and to see Bisping explaining relatable struggles and still accomplishing things makes me feel so understood and encouraged. I am hoping for advancements in ocular robotics as well haha Oddly enough, since I have about 5%-10% of my vision in my "bad eye", my depth perception is pretty normal! Maybe I am just so used to making the proper adjustments since its all ive ever known.
Your brain adjusts and kind of compensates for the depth perception apparently, not 100% though, I wasn't born blind in one eye but now I am, so I could tell the difference, sucks, especially the surgeries, but it feels normal now, I can even play sports properly(even though I'm not supposed to lol) people don't notice until I mention it, weird.

I’m in the same boat as you, about 5-10% in my bad eye and my “good eye” isn’t exactly good either 😂, insane to think about Bisping being able to fight and win a title with one eye
Well from what I have seen so far those who had poor eyesight since thier childhood has better eyesight compared to those who recently started having poor eyesight although they requires same amount of lens. I need -4.5 to -5 power lens but I can play football so called soccer in USA without any lens or anything but my friends who needs around -3 to -4 power lens can't play football without lens or glasses, etc. So yeah your body made an adjustments. And these stories of our bodies making adjustments are completely true or can be demmed true to some point
My 4 month old child went through the same thing (genetics not roided Vitor) and this video and your story helped my wife a lot and I know your story will be a constant reminder to him growing up on not letting his conformer or condition be an issue.
Before he won the title, back when he fought Hendo, Bisbing was one of the most hated fighters in the UFC. Now he is one of the most liked commentators and MMA personalities. Certified legend.
100%. I, along with my buddies, all hated him back in the day. Flat out hated him. Now I respect him so much and truly enjoy his perspective on fighting. Love his podcast, and actually like his fight commentating too for the most part. It’s just amazing how much I used to hate him when he first came in the scene. Lol
@@guccimalcs False comparison, Bisping was just annoying. Jon Jones has actually cheated multiple times. Crashed into a pregnant lady and ran off. Spent ages pretending to be a christian lmao. Guy is legitimately a sociopath. There's no coming back for someone like him. Especially through just being good at commentary lol.
Him carrying on, knowing he could go blind and get seriously hurt is a testament to how much of a warrior this guy is. He deserved to be a champ at that point. Many great things that’s happened in the UFC but this is probably the greatest story that’s ever happened in UFC history. I always wanted him to be champ as an Englishmen and so glad he achieved it against all odds too. Makes us even more proud of him that he did it after all he’s been through. Watching him win and KO Rockhold at 5am in the morning here in England was the best moment ever watching MMA. Everyone in the house was woken up too. They were pissed, it was tremendous. Love you Mike ✌🏻

I always loved Bisping. I remember when he was on the Ultimate Fighter and won a bout against Ross Pointon (I think it was Ross). Ross was taking the loss really hard and Bisping comforted him and encouraged him. He didn’t have to do that but he did anyway. I admired that about him.
I was 20yr old in NJ Newark airport at my gate waiting for my plane to Manchester England and he turns up, just him and his lady. A quick hello and congratulations on winning UF before getting on the plane. Never forget how humble and happy he was.
Love him or hate him, Michael Bisping has been an absolute gift to the sport. He was a great fighter and has a PhD in shit talking, which made for many hilarious moments over the years.
who's trying to do that lol You're off your head even saying that. It's weird. Somebody is being proud of somebody doing a great job, having merit in a sport, from their country. It's inspiring, nothing wrong with that at all. Only some of the extremer end of the Yanks says this sort of thing, because of how they're educated. In their mind The Yank is allowed , USA USA USA proud proud, but not the English man, Look when Mike Tyson on hotboxing, repeatedly mentions something positive about the English in terms of a warrior tradition, and the American guy he's says it to , never knows how to respond, + looks really fucking uncomfortable like he's learned something different from what he got taught in history at school lol Is it like a Yank brainwash? Cognitive dissonance, Yeah anyway we get it, fine, but no one ever slaps these fuckers in the face, by pointing out common sense to them, the basic concept, from George Washington. to General Patton, the two greatest martial heroes in US history ,their veins were full of fucking English blood, These are English cowards that they look up too in their US martial tradition. Like it or not, their genetics were not from the other 195 countries on the earth! Hard I'm sure for a humble Yank to get his head round I can imagine. If I was a Yank I'd probably struggle with it too ,I feel for you Gentlemen sometimes honestly not an easy circle to square.Well.. Bispings full of Polish right lol yet ironically he considers himself English through and through lol Life's funny like that isn't it sometimes @@Inaluogh
@Billy Jackson he doesn’t provide the full picture. One podcast won’t provide the full picture especially when it’s not even a legit educational platform. Do your own research. Go to school, actually educate yourself from multiple media’s. Don’t take ALL your info from one podcast on Spotify. Joe admitted it himself that he wasn’t actively showing both sides to things like covid-19. I miss the old Rogan where I could use his podcast to distract from the struggles of life, hear him rant about ufc, chimpanzees and don’t. Now it’s basically like I’m watching the 5 o clock news with all his covid “experts”
My goodness. The UFC should take care of this guy for life for real. Incredible. Much respect to Bisping for the way he has handled it and who he is as a person now.

Sadly this isn't always the case, there's fighters that have been left with major CTE dimentia and have been left to get on with it after no longer being able to fight. Fisher being just 1 example. It's pretty sad really and the UFC could do so much better by their fighters.
Dealing with a bummed knee and hand... amateur MMA. Honestly been considering quitting. Thanks man, this was inspirational. To people dealing with something, hang in there guys. We'll get through it!
I was in second grade when I lost my right eye to a pencil thrown across the room. It was my dominant eye, and it took a while before I was able to do things like pick up a glass without misjudging and knocking it over, or walking through a doorway without bumping my shoulder. Longer still before I could catch a baseball or accurately throw one. I say a "long time", but a 7 year old adapts pretty quickly, and by the time I was 9 or 10 the only things I had trouble with were those that didn't have anything for reference to size right next to it, giving me an idea of how close it was (such as catching a baseball in mid air), but I was even getting better at that. As I got older, my left eye compensated, and I enjoyed 20/10 vision in it until only very recently as with age things tend to deteriorate. Now I use reading glasses and soon may need corrective lenses to drive. My eye gets tired much sooner than it ever did in the past. I've had a slight case of glaucoma for the last several years, and last year my eye doctor told me I was developing a cataract, but stressed that it was normal at my age, correctable since we caught it early, and nothing to worry about. Having only one eye for most of my life didn't slow me down or hold me back from anything except joining the military (which was ironic because I lost the eye in a school on a military base because my father was in the Air Force), getting a commercial driver's license, and getting a pilot's license. Disqualified from all three of these because of a lack of peripheral vision on my right side and a lack of depth perception. All things said and done, I think having lost the eye so early in life was good for me. At an early age it became second nature for me to pay a little more attention to virtually everything I did so as not to be clumsy or awkward and to try to be a little more precise in everything I do physically to prevent spills or mishaps. Consequently, by the time I was in my teens, it was often remarked on how fast I could learn and become accomplished at any new skills or activities that involved my hand/eye coordination. Where everyone else took weeks or even months to become proficient at many new activities, I took days, and as time progressed, I got better at it faster than they did. Shooting, for instance. I grew up hunting and fishing. I have been shooting and have been around shooters my entire life. Beginning with a BB gun at 6 years old, then a .22 rifle at 8 years old, I have owned and shot guns since I was tall enough to keep both ends of a rifle off the ground at the same time. I had to learn to shoot a long gun (shotgun or rifle) left handed so I could use the sights or scope with my left eye, but that was no big deal. To this day I only know of one person that ever outshot me with either a rifle or handgun. I'm also a fairly decent pool player, having won my share of tournaments. Maybe it's because I grew up not remembering what it's like to have depth perception, but I just don't feel that having only one eye is that much of a hardship. I guess it comes down to not knowing what you have until you lose it or, in my case, not knowing what your were missing when you never had it in the first place. Once in a while, I say that I know why the 3 legged dog still runs and plays. All that being said, I still wouldn't want to fight Mr. Bisping even if he were tied up and I had a baseball bat and a 24 hour head start.
@@marchfifth1754 Don't feel bad for me. I think, in the long run, it made me a better person. As I said, it made me take a little more care with anything I did with my hands, and that carried over into taking extra care with everything I did. I had a wonderful career as a Park Ranger and am now retired, so it all worked out well for me. I'm just thankful it happened when I was so young and didn't have to adjust to losing my depth perception as an adult.
I used to not like Michael Bisping years ago, but over time he became one of my most admired athletes in the UFC. His toughness and no excuses attitude won the Belt simultaneously redeeming his defeat against Rockhold and Achieving Championship🏆 belt with 1 eye 👁️. Amazing. That makes it even more remarkable!!! Bravo 👏. I'm sure the UK, his family and friends are very proud
Iv only got one eye n I can't begin to tell you the respect I have for Bisping winning the UFC belt one eyed. Its incredible,I still struggle with day to day things never mind winning a world championship belt.Mad respect.
I hated him....when he was on tuf...and coached tuf...then liked him when he ko like...then hated him when he beat hendo in his last fight....hendo being my fav fighter of all time....now like him again once I found out he only had 1 eye years ago
I have heard Bisping tell these stories quite a few times now and i still can't believe it. You have to be a certain level of mad to carry on fighting in the state he was in. Amazing!
I love Bisping commentary, he is always so genuine and has real good, engaging delivery. I love to hear his histories, not to mention the heart to go fight with some of the toughest men on the planet just with one eye. What a legend. Being champion is the just such a good payout for his persistence.

Makes me understand now why bisping has such a problem with doping. Trt Belfort was over the hill until he got on the sauce, bisping probably would have scorched him if not for the roids and instead he lost an eye because of it. Really puts it into perspective
Didn't Vitor's toenail or something slice his eye? I know it was a kick, but I thought his nail got him..... If so, they gotta make a rule about that. Like tape the toes, or the doctors clip their nails before the fight.
@@Danielson1818 i don't know if that's what happened but i know when i used to compete the refs would check our nails to see if they were too long. If we held out our hands, palms out, and the ref could see our nails over the tip of the finger, it was a no go. I remember cutting my nails with a pair of scissors so i wouldn't Gey dq'd
Let’s not forget that there were many fighters with a TRT exemption back when Bisping fought Belfort…and Belfort was one of those people. I have no doubt that Bisping fought clean his whole career which makes his story even more incredible. Seeing him KO Rockhold was a thing of beauty. Definitely a well deserved Hall Of Famer.
Khabib got inducted yesterday 29-0…….yet Gegard Mousasi is 49-7 & 36 years old. Pisses me off. Bisping most definitely deserves HOF statues I agree. Earned it.
@@JustShotsForMehabsolute understatement mate. 110% disposal of duty of care by the ufc, maybe why they have given Bisping his commentary role…not that he doesn’t deserve it as he’s a great analyst.
@@DLIN666 TRT was legal back then, Belfort was super human for example, he had 4 times the amount of testosterone an average 30 year old male has, it's not why Bisping got the commentary job, he's just good and passionate about it like DC and Felder
@@JustShotsForMeh read my previous reply properly mate. You point out that he was juiced up but then say he was superhuman…he was given trt exemption because of his steroid use. I pointed out how the ufc allowed shit like that and how by doing so they completely neglected their duty of care towards fighters and put the clean ones in danger of severe consequences…for example Bisping’s eye. As I already said, he is a great analyst but there are many fighters who could give their perspective but they aren’t working for the ufc - my point being that it MAY be some way for the ufc to try to ensure Financial security for Bisping as he had to stop fighting. Does that provide more clarity for you?
After losing the sight in my left eye after an accident I feel every word Michael is saying, depth perception sucks to start with, but u just learn to live with everything. What a great bloke
There are very few people in the history of the UFC who we can genuinely say and agree were the absolute definition of warriors. Bisping in every single aspect is one of them. There are/were people who have warrior like performances (Ortega vs Max), even warrior type periods in their career, but eventually most people fade out and become more concerned with their health and how they perceive fighting, - which most people can understand 100% - we saw this with Nick Diaz for example. But Bisping without a shadow of any doubt, was a warrior from the beginning to the absolute very end.
K i agree with what your saying but your examples are not too good. You named a beatdown fight, and which i guess the warrior in ortega for having that chin. And nick diaz who was out for 6 or 7 years not training and before his last fight he never fought for 3 years. No need to throw nick under the bus. You couldve said Diego Sanchez, Dan Henderson, shogun, wanderlei, matt brown, just to name a few if you talking about guys who lost their chin but once had the best. But to whos a warrior, there is alooooot. Man theres so many. Ortega and holloway fight was one sided. Thats not quite being a warrior if you not getting off any offense lol just heart and good chin, a warrior battles back.
Most fighters UFC or not, would have quit after losing an eye. One VERY difficult decision, that changed the entire tcome of not only his career but his and his family's life. A legend among the legends.
Well like you said he didn't have much of a choice at that time all he could do was fight for income he had a wife and kids just bought a new house if he were to quit and do some other job that couldn't pay for everything would the wife stay by his side maybe maybe not... I'm sure he was far from being homeless or starving but still once you accumulate that many material things you really don't want to give it up.
I bet if they work and become available Joe will pay to get him one, he's that type of person and he would do it just to talk about his friend with the robot eye and how good it works lol
If they get to the point where you can replace your "optics" (i.e. eyes) like in Cyberpunk and get superior vision I would totally do it. Hell, even if it just matched your natural eyes I would do it since I suffered a medical accident awhile back that rendered my retinas super sensitive to any bright lights. It's been very annoying ever since, and there's no way for them to naturally recover. It'd have to be some miracle stem cell regenerative treatment, or some type of bionic replacement.
Listening to Bisping and how he is so so dedicated to the sport and what has unfortunately happened to him makes you like the guy, even more, such an incredible athlete.
Bisping is the kind of person/athlete they make movies out of. Dude's an ironman with balls of steel. And with all his injuries and ailments and ALL the odds stacked against him, he still kept his body healthy and won the championship with one fkn eye! Dude is an inspiration.

This just shows that fighters like Michael Bisping are a different breed than most of us. We'd use a bad eye as an excuse not to fight, and he's trying to get around it so he can.

i hear what your saying and in alot of ways agree (fighters are different breeds, fighters like bisping are even more...) but there is also the element of pretty universal human stubborn-ness, particularly in regards of being kept from doing what we love. basically another form of 'save the player from themselves'. again, not trying to be pedantic or argumentative, just an observation to your point. but ya, bisping's an (amusing) beast.
I have the exact same type of prosthetic eye in my left eye as he does... so I know what hardships he would have had to overcome... much respect to him
It's very nice reading these comments and seeing this man get the credit he deserves! Well done Mike and well done MMA community for finally recognizing his heart and accomplishments!
This man is a living legend and deserves to be financially set for the rest of his life.... His 2 artificial knees and blind eye is exactly why UFC fighters deserve to get paid better as there are many guys with life altering injuries from doing MMA.
