I'm glad someone finally said it! Knitting takes such a long time and effort. People take that for granted sometimes and it makes me frustrated especially as a slow knitter with shaky hands

Literally me too like when I hold my needles and working yarn like faster knitters do I constantly drop stitches or I can’t loop the yarn through the stitch bc I shake. Essentially have to do the throwing method where I take my hand off the needle to wrap the working yarn. It’s slow, but hey it works and I get to knit! Yay! Yknow I may also have to attribute it to me being a die-hard crochet fan, but crochet fits my attention span better. I’ve also been doing it way longer so when I knit my funky brain throws it aside like “Nyeh! No instant results? Jail for mother for a thousand years!”

yes! stitch markers are so annoying! I like using the ones that look like safety pins and clipping them to a previous row so that once I'm done with my knitting session, I can "travel" up the rows and place it back on my needles after, and I don't have to worry about slipping it constantly

I started knitting today, I've been learning for maybe 2-3 hours and I can only do 12 stitches a minute, the fact that people can knit nearly 3x that speed is amazing.

I just started my first real project a few days ago. I’m knitting the front piece of a vest. I did about 14 rows in rib stitch and I feel like I’ve been knitting the entire day! To be fair, I’m a beginner so I’m still quite slow. I also had to concentrate a lot so I don’t mess up. I honestly could’ve bought a vest online for maybe 10€, but I wanted to to it myself so I can proudly say it’s mine.

I really like this video! I was crocheting while watching and it was like validation. I thought I was just a very slow knitter, which I still think I am, but it's nice to know that knitting just take longer.

I use stitch markers frequently, sometimes to keep track of repeats (because I don't trust my counting abilities) or clip one into a row to track my progress for a session so it feels like I'm actually making a dent. I prefer those lightbulb safety pins or paperclips that are easily movable so no commitments and much cheaper than "official" proper stitch markers!

Knitting does take a really long time. But some are really fast knitters and it's not me lol. You could do a 24 hours of this. Not continuously knitting the 24 hours straight, but time yourself that you knit one project for 24 hours, if you go on a break then stop the timer and resume it once you start knitting again.

For your videos about one project you should put time/date stamps on every clip so we can see how long it takes to do a certain amount of the project. That definitely only made sense in my brain but maybe u get it lol

sometimes i do have to look up what happens in a series it depends on the type. if it's just something that's light and airy I don't have to. I always look up how long my fav character will be on tho bc i need to prepare for heartbreak in case they don't make it till the end

I don't think that's slow. Even if you do an hour a day, that gives you 50 rows per week and how long is your sweater? Probably not more than that, knowing you're petite and use medium yarn. If you were yo sew that it wouldn't take that much shorter to do it and would require way pricier equipment.

I use stitch markers consistently only if my project fits my circular needles. If I have to magic loop those stitch markers get dropped after like round 3. I always try though.

Every once and a while I time myself on a row. The last time I did it 330sts took me almost half an hour. The next morning I was randomly watching old knitting videos and found out women used to be able to do like 200-300sts a SECOND and walk at the same time sometimes...

Hey✨ is it normal that I can’t knit long cause my hands hurt? Will it improve with time? Some people can knit a dishcloth super fast and it takes me 4 days plus because I get tired lol

That should improve, yes! Just make sure to take breaks every 15-30 minutes to stretch your hands, arms and upper body and don't knit more than your hands can handle :) If you're a beginner the muscles in your hands and arms are still getting used to the movements so they will get sore. When i started i definitely over did it and eventually had to take a week off from crafting because my hands, wrists, shoulders and even chest muscles hurt so much. Over doing it can do some serious damage tho, especially when your body isn't used to what you're doing and you aren't physically fully comfortable with it yet. Carpal tunnel syndrome and painful and cramping muscles aren't unknown in the crochet and knit community, so not knitting for long is not a bad thing at all, even though it can be frustrating to not see as much progress as one would like :)
