Such a unique build. Hats off to you. I used to own a 2.5 Sti with around 310hp and that thing was a monster. Can’t imagine what an 400hp ej is like in an mx5 chassis with it being considerably lighter.

I think I've watched every one of Caleb's vids on release ever since he was cutting wires with children scissors and hot gluing other wires together in attempt to connect them togther. He's definitely come a long way .

That’s a lot less than I thought it was going to be tbh. Awesome build, not sure if you can make it better but I’m sure you’ll find out a way. Can’t wait to see videos of this thing rippin!!! 🤘

The cost is one thing but how much you have learned is worth so much more. Only downside is what you know need a stupid people saying you know it but knowing is half the battle. I love this project it was built how real people did it back it he day and how I built my 1986 S10. No computer aids design to help you built it in your head the best computer ever. Some cardboard here and there, your golden. Before the LS swap, before the LS even I put a Small Block Chevy 350 iron block in a little chevy S10 pulling a blown 4 cylinder out. Turned the 350 in to a 383 stroker with duel carburetors that were double pumpers too. I got more of my parts from the junk yard taking me a 13 year old over 2.5 years and my first truck would stand up on two wheels and jump a 2L soda. But looking back at what I learned has carried through to today as a electrical and mechanical engineer, tool and die machinist. I can build and fix just about anything and design it in CAD then go to a CNC or by hand build it, Love your build!

Good job mate. I 100% agree with just learning how to Fabricate your self. Who know how much money i have saved by just trying to make & fabricate everything myself. But of course it has taken time but it has been well worth it & satisfying when you make somthing with your own two handes.

Who wants to see a turbo ls build similar to what sloppy mechanics builds I think that would be a great learning experience for gingium because he can learn how to tune and if he blows up a sbe 4.8 or 5.3 there 200-500 dollars

I think one thing you lacked on pricing out was welding supplies. How much did the electrode wire cost, how much did the welding gas cost, cause I know that shit can get expensive. It’s like $40 per refill for a 40-50 cubic foot bottle for a 75/25 Ar/CO2 mix. You probably refilled your bottles at least once or twice. Plus, the gas bottle itself for the welder starts at around $200. Also, depending on the brand, size and weight for the wire, that could easily be $10-50 a spool. There’s a lot of money that goes into welding supplies.

The intention of this video is nice , Caleb , but where I live the cops would instantly impound this car if they see you driving it . In Germany (where I live) you have to get your car inspected even if you just put another steering wheel / different size tires / lights on . And then they even expect you to pay them a shit ton of money to be allowed to drive it .It's ridiculous .

As soon as I move out and get a house, I'll be building my own project. Plan is a rotary swapped Ford Ranger. If I did my homework right, it should actually be really easy and straightforward. Rangers basically use RX-7 transmissions. New bell housing, custom motor mounts, and wire in ignition coils and gauges; obviously cooling, but I should be able to use the stock ranger radiator and stock rotary oil cooler. Going carbureted will save time and money. Then after that I think I'll get another RX-7 and do some major performance work

I think one of the main hangups for me is just having a dedicated space to do this sort of work. I don't have a garage or a flat or paved driveway. I've done an engine swap and some other more detailed jobs out there, but I sorta feel like it gets trickier to start pushing for passion projects when you don't have somewhere to keep things for fabricating and if you get too carried away on car work that neighbors will start to give you flak

Just a bit south of $19,000 is NOT BAD for such an interesting build that's also a finished, roadworthy car. Also, hot guess, the new tool is gonna be something to do with making some skidplates so you don't drag the oil pan over a rock or pop a hole in a coolant line.

You can make some good money if you create a sort of adapter kit for a WRX/STI tranny to the BP engine. A lot of people like to try to drag race in a Miata and the biggest issue with that is that they cant grip due to their low weight and small tire patch combo. Edit: I'd buy it if its under $5k.

I really wish more people would suggest learning how to do the work yourself (safely like you said...then again I built a VW 1.8T powered completely custom Lancia Stratos replica in highschool and competed in amateur rally with it...) instead of just scaring people off by saying "oh that's gonna cost at least 10 or 20 thousand". 9/10 the people saying stuff like that on forums can barely check their oil much less build anything. I've done a stupid amount of probably equally stupid projects though, that's the part of a car/truck that's the most interesting for me. I could have just rebuilt the Solstice donor car I got or bought a Miata instead of converting a 99 Celica to RWD and swapping in the LE5 turbocharged but to me that would've been boring. Even if it took a couple hundred hours, I enjoyed those couple hundred hours so that has its own value (considering my trade is machining, fabricating, and mechanic work I better enjoy doing it lol). I built a AWD rally Super Beetle with a completely custom chassis/cage under the shell with a front engine and rear cooling/fuel swap using a 1.8T 225 Audi TT Quattro as a donor. Arguably I could have repaired and converted the TT from the get go but I wanted a AWD Beetle.
