I’ve bought a few brand new cars and after my last one I decided that it’s not worth it. A couple months ago I bought a loaded 2016 Ram outdoorsmen for $26,800 with 26 thousand miles. I love the truck and it was almost half the cost of my 2014 Silverado LTZ Z71.
I've left a dealership before to go to another one only to return to the first dealership with the new truck i had just bought down the road to act like i had forgotten something there. smear it in there face everytime you can
Wow. Dealers are scumbags. Sorry you went through that but you got a good deal! And BTW thats how alot of them are, nothing new. Good luck with it, my 2013 is falling apart fast.
The bottom line here folks is #1 When in the finance office the first thing you tell them is "I don't want ANY extras, No insurance gap or credit insurance, no maintenance extensions, and no extended service contracts" #2 Do your due dilligence, research the inventory around you on the internet, check true car site USAA or your credit unions car buying service, make these dealers call you and compete for your business. You will be surprised how much you will save. #3 Never walk into dealer blind with no idea what the cars or trucks cost and what the options cost. # 4 READ the contract CAREFULLY Know what you are signing! One more thing, NEVER buy a car without a thorough test drive. Would you buy a house unseen??
I'm surprised you gave them so many second chances. This dealership was not putting the customer first and that was apparent early on...with the new 2019s hitting the lots now, there'll be a fire sale on the 2018 models. I felt like you could've got it for 21k after the trade in. But I'm glad you got a deal done that works for you in the end.
Nice Truck. I have a 2018 express as well and love it so far, only thing I dislike on mine is its that black that always looks dirty when you get close to it. I had some issues with local guys, so I left city I live in. Saved a ton of cash and sorry to hear all that crap had to deal with. I showed up at dealership signed papers and was done.
My friend retired through ford. And he was allowed to buy any ford vehicle at manufacture price. So he bought a F-150 brand new at $16,500 vs the sticker price being $30k lol.
How do the 2WD Rams handle in the snow? There is a 4X2 Express that I can get a great deal on, I live in FL , but I plan on moving to the Carolina mountains. I'm guessing I would need a 4X4 to get through the winters.
My 4wd handles well in the snow. Even in 2wd the truck seems pretty stable. The 4wd Hi Lock shouldn't be driven over 50 mph. So in most cases 2wd works just fine on snow covered roads. 4wd works well for starting from a stop sign or back roads that haven't been plowed. A good set of snow tires and a few hundred pounds of sand bags in the bed would be a good option for a 2wd.
don't ever get upset just ask to get everything in writing over email always, if it goes awry send it to your state attorney's general and dealers assoc, fight corruption
I just bought a 2018 ram 1500 myself - even traded in a Subaru crosstrek. They gave me 18k on a 2015 crosstrek, which felt fair. 38k on the truck after rebates. Hard to tell how our numbers compare without knowing your Canadian/ American. Also within Canada, truck prices vary a lot between regions. I had the complete opposite experience with my dealer, very happy
I hate wheeling-dealing for anything, I wish cars were fair trade items like Stihl products... They tried it with Saturn Automobiles, too bad their cars looked so dated.. Now when I buy a vehicle I go by dealership ratings, I traveled an hour to buy my Truck from a dealership that everyone raved about... It was a wonderful experience... No BS, no "Let me talk to my manager", they even realized I overpaid on one option and sent me a check by next day mail... I heard their service dept is even better! The dealers close to me are cut-throats and display everything you loathe about buying a car right down to the cheesy suits and bad cologne. I heard that buying a Lexus is the best experience ever! 😃👍
I bought the same exact color Express quad cab but a 2017 last year. It stickered for $42k but with all the incentives and stuff I got it for $34k including taxes. I put $3k down so i have to payoff $31k when the deal was said and done.
The nerve of them cashing your check before the deal was even started... geez. Then they still gave you the run around after the fact. I would never go back to that dealer ever again. Sounds like they wanted that check hoping you'd give them another $500 that they originally wanted to close the deal.
When I bought my 2015 Big Horn it only had a half tank of fuel when driving it home. I'm also done with using the dealer on 3000 mile oil changes.. Scratching the piss out of the hood leaning on it. They left grease prints on headliner when performing a recall. I do not like dealing with the service guys or these salesman. So far the truck is holding up if it starts to go South mechanical wise I'm moving over to a Toyota Tundra and not looking back.
I had the same problem when I was buying my 2018 ram 1500 night edition. Almost the same exact story but after a week of them bullshiting me, i ended the deal and drove 2 hours to the other dealership and got the truck ( even tho they told me that the other dealership sold it )
If your trading in a car and they test drive it make sure you get the keys back before you start negotiating a new car or truck. They keep them so when you get frustrated you wont leave.
I paid 31800 for a crew cab. What incentive did you get you paid full MSRP- 500 rebate. You should be getting at least 20% off MSRP but closer to 30% with rebates.
They took off $9,000 in rebates. In Wisconsin they take your trade amount off of MSRP then tax you 5 %. $43115-$12500 = $30,615 final price $23,929. $23,929 has $210 in fees and $1530.75 in tax added. If you take off the tax and fees plus the $500 I got back I paid $21,688.25 for the truck.
Dang bro, I hate you went through that headache. What city and state did you get that truck? That way, I'll be sure not to go there.. I hate dealing with shady dealerships.
Just a guess, but I'm wondering if the dealership was delaying the closing sale of the truck based on month and figures, and or dealership incentives from Stellantis or Chrysler whoever owned them at the time and maybe that was why they kind of drag their feet because they could sell that truck which would clear up some of the floorplan that they're paying for and then if they did get anything back from Stellantis or Chrysler with the dealership incentives offered if you sell X number of vehicles X number of days. Unfortunately you were taken for the ride during the process and there may have been some other factors such as whether or not that vehicle was already allocated to someone else or to another dealership. Had that been the case if the deal didn't fall through then you may have not gotten the truck you wanted for that $4500 discount. There's no point in trying to figure it out because the second you think you have it figured out it's something else 9 times out of 10. I didn't enjoy the whole purchasing a vehicle process either just for the reasons you went through. My situation was a bit different. There was 0% financing for 60 months or 72 months so I had to make my monthly payment and that all they could throw in on my 2017 RAM BIGHORN, THAT WAS BRAND NEW AT THE TIME WAS TO HAVE THE FRONT WINDOWS TINTED. I also got the tunnel cover for $800 I believe. There are some dealerships throughout the US mind you not many that have a no haggle pay the price you see in an out deal, which makes it a lot easier for buyers too. Feel comfortable when purchasing a brand new vehicle at a dealership.. these type of dealerships, sell new vehicles and their price fluctuates daily on every vehicle, depending on current market value Of other dealership pricing on the same vehicles in order to maintain a competitive price point. Rather than top seller of the month gets 15% commission and so on and so forth like most dealerships operate otherwise known as ruthless dick tactics in order to pad, their pockets. The other dealerships with a no haggle pricing simply offer an hourly rate or a salary rate to every sales person. in order to motivate all of the team members, the dealership offers and incentive if a certain goal is reached By one or all of the sales people. I'm sure that there's still another level after that top seller of the month gets another 5% etc. but at least it's fair across in playing field.. more importantly, it draws a lot more customers into the dealership when word-of-mouth is their best advertising asset regarding their harassment lol free Customer environment. if there was a dealership like that near me, I would go there every time and skip the headaches. I would rather drive my current vehicle to the ground before having to go by another vehicle just from what I would anticipate having to go through. Take care
I paid 25k + taxes us, 33k CAD for my 2018 Express Crew Cab 4x4 With Bed liner, factory tow kit, and then I added some warrantys, gap insurance and rust proofing which jacked the price up, I know I shouldn't of, but it added some peace of mind. Total came out to 50k after taxes and financing and warranties... did I get ripped? maybe I paid a bit too much for the extended warranty, rust protection and GAP insurance, but it brings peace of mind. 50K CAD = 37k USD. Prob not that bad of a deal.
I'm new in the US, and I'm willing to get a ram. I thought I could just do the build and price online and order the truck I want, will I have to stick to what the dealer have in stock?
You can build it online, but most dealers will want to sell you something off their lot. They will tell you they can give you a better deal on the inventory on the lot.
@@stuntcardriver Thank you for the info. Here in San Diego all the trucks in stock are RWD except a couple of Laramies. I like the Big Horn with night edition package 4WD, V6, I don't tow. I checked all the dealers in town and nobody has it.
@@mauriciocastro7505 If that is the case they may do a dealer swap from a different state that has 4wd. My experience is that they will go out of their way to sell something already built then special order.
I just bought a brand new 2017 express for 23500 about 3 months ago. It was the very last 2017 4 door on the lot. It had about 16000 dollars in rebates.
No, not really. Seems a little noisy at idle, but the dealer said that is normal. If you are easy on the throttle you can get 20 mpg or more. Lots of power for towing. No regrets.
I sat with the finance Natzie for hours before I was able to buy my truck. And it was worse when I purchased the wife's jeep (same dealership). I hate dealing with these people.
stuntcardriver From what I understand there is a Dodge Dealership in Southern Indiana that ordered a very specific build from Dodge and ordered a lot of them. Eventually Dodge named the build Express after the dealership which is named Expressway Dodge.
They're doing the old bait and switch game sell you something else ie older less options that you want paid pay more than you want because you get so frustrated you're ready take anything oldest dealership scam their is, the carsale men rank ahead of pimps and lawyers for there honesty, Good thing you fought back and stood your ground.
Nice truck,I'm a Chevy guy but I can appreciate a nice truck. I had a friend buy a dodge ram with the 4.7 and it was a dog, good thing you bought the 5.7.
I went through the Costco Auto Buy Program for my 17' Silverado. Costco assigned me a local dealer. My research showed that Costco had a very good price without having to deal with all the silly games that salesmen play. The dealers appraiser figured they had a sale. So he offered 7K less then Kelly's said my trade was worth. When I asked why such a low price, he said that 62,000 miles were too high. I explained to him that I owned the truck for 37 months & the miles were from ordinary driving. I walked out and ordered my truck from the dealer that gave me 7K more and still honored the Costco price.
If you know exactly what you want to pay for a new truck and know exactly what you want for your trade then you stick to your guns and get it. Dealerships can easily knock 10k off a truck and still make plenty of profit. It all depends on how badly they want to sell. Their is no reason to spend 5/6 hours at a dealership just to purchase a vehicle but they all work that way to wear you down. NEVER PAY STICKER and also watch out for their FAKE fees. Never pay a destination charge UNLESS you ordered a vehicle, if it's already on there lot then make them pay it.
You should have received your 500 back even if they got the original truck from the other dealer and you decided you didnt want it! also they would have come down more just for aggravation or i would have walked! These things are so over priced anymore its almost like a mortgage!
I own a Tundra, wanted a Ram.. just couldn’t take all the bs from the Ram dealers. It turned me off. Went to Toyota, got a great deal and happy 😊 with my purchase.
This is how I handle car dealers I make one offer and that offer is what I will pay and only what I will pay they can take it or leave it I’ll just drive up to the next dealership if u decline no big deal...
Leaving a deposit on a truck that they dont have ON THE LOT is your first mistake. Never do this. Tell them to get the truck on the lot, THEN I will come in and drive it and probably buy it. If you cant get it here in 3 days, then I will find one elsewhere, or make me a screaming deal on one that you DO have on the lot. BTW I recently bought a brand new 2017 Nissan Titan XD 4x4, MSRP about $38k, for $24k and change. It CAN be done. No trade, no financing. Walk in with money. Money talks, loudly.
The biggest part I hate most of buying a new/newer vehicle is the whole sales/finance/bank bs crap not the price or payment... I can't tell you how many times I have wasted my time with this .... Despite me making it extremely clear the amount of effort I am willing to put in.... They just ignore you.. You are a number not a person to them and it sickens me. About once every year or 2 I almost get hooked in but end up walking out the door... Currently going through this as we speak, "Pre-approved" All set..... BUT... just need...... Oh, we just need this, oh that won't work we need this.... I am going to throw up... Sick of the BS
it may be difficult for many people to understand this, but sales people at dealerships at not human. Prior to walking into the building they are. When they are with their families on Thanksgiving they are. But the second they put on their name tag and dealership shirt, they become lower than human and will do everything in their power to suck you dry of every last cent. Do NOT go into there thinking they are your friend. They could care less about your day, your job, your struggles.. the second they close on the deal with you, they move onto the next person. Once you start negotiating and come up with a final price you are willing to pay... tell them the monthly pay you're willing to accept MINUS $20 more. if you're willing to pay $500 a month, say $480. The worst that can happen is they say they can't.. but then get up and walk out. 99% of the time the manager will stop you.
I got a big horn crew cab 9” display lots of bells and whistles 2018 with 14 miles asking was 44,000 and some change got it for 33,500 and you got an express for 42,000 ouch
This is why I use an auto broker. Call and tell them exactly what you want, they give you a price over the phone. Go to pick it up and you’re in & out in 20 minutes. Financing and all.
Don't even think of going to that dealer again their business model is to confuse and upsell the buyer.. Always read online reviews of the dealer 1st. It doesn't matter who is closest find another dealer within 200 miles who will treat you right ant give you a good deal from day 1. Secondly I would worry about how honest the service department is at that dealership any Ram dealer can service your truck under warranty so check online reviews and get a dealer with highly rated service dept. A lot of times the lowest price dealer has a crappy repair shop.
I have no idea what options you have, but I bought a nicely optioned Bighorn model (next higher trim) for $7,000 less than you paid. Hope you enjoy the truck.
stuntcardriver no bought it January 26,2018 new for 40,000 you just have to search United States wide and tell the sales person your going on vacation where ever you see the best deal and they will do the deal there money hungry and want the money and sale instead of someone else getting it
Dam I would've walked out before I went through all that I myself just got me a 2019 ram laramie it was nice and simple no problems I do understand that alot of dealerships are jackasses at lease you ended up getting what you wanted
Just bought a new 1500 EcoDiesel Bighorn @ $36700 OTD. I told the internet sales manager that I’m not planning to spend over $37k total and that’s how it worked out.
A good time walk out is when they want play hardball, just get up walk out see them come out like ant out of an ant hill. JUST DO IT whether is a car dealer or any thing.
Dealerships play games. I bought my '16 cargo van, and '15 pickup....i had to walk out of three dealerships as i know what i wanted, and did not budge....don't let them play you....in the process i sold my trucks privately and made way more than the trade-in. They have no shame...lol.
Price. I would't mind a Ford, Nissan or Toyota if I could get it for the price of a Ram. The Chevy/GMC seemed boxy when driving and under powered with a 5.3 V8. I believe the Ram express is that nice mix between not the most basic pickup, but not overly priced with options I don't want.
In my opinion, Ford trucks are ugly since 2005. Chevy gmc have always been ugly. Toyota is respectable but avoid mad and all options. Alllll computers that WILL FAIL before its paid off
you should have listened to your tingling spidey sense. You got hustled. Hard. Should have went somewhere else. And after all that still no bedliner hahaha
Buying a truck for that amount of money shouldn't be a bad experience should of went else where I bought a ram 1500 Laramie and love it had good experience
I noticed you got ripped off and screwed by the dealer. Not even a bed liner for an MSRP of 43k ?? I paid under 25k for my single cab with Uconnect 3, bedliner back up camera, chrome appearance, and power group. I hope they at least kissed you before you left.
Sir I’m sorry for your situation, I’m also going to tell you, you got played. The next time you go to a dealer to buy a vehicle do yourself a favor and research how dealerships operate. They are professionals at separating you from your wallet.
Better off buying from a private seller and having it checked by your mechanic before you pay for it! ALL dealers are in it to screw you out of as much money as they can. I just bought a '17 F-150 AND a '18 eco boost Mustang and paid CASH money and they were STILL trying to screw me any way they could.
Forty-five minutes of research online will provide all of the info you require to purchase a new vehicle...Dealer Invoice Cost vs MSRP; Incentives, Trade-in value etc. Just purchased a 2018 Hyundai Kona for my wife and a 2018 Ram 1500 Express Blackout package for me. Once they both knew I had done my research, and had print-outs to prove it, I offered $400 over Dealer Invoice on her deal and $350 on mine. Both were accepted. No need to be "hosed" in the 21st Century.
That’s nothing I bought a 2018 sport night edition almost a month ago it needed some paint work due to factory issue they said ten days it’s been 3 weeks and I still don’t have my truck I paid 60,000 for never again will I buy a dodge
Car dealers are as crooked as a barrel of snakes.. and I’m sorry to insult snakes. I use a broker and get approved loans to buy the cars I want and if you’re truck hunting save money and buy it in Texas.
