Good video 👍 You've picked an interesting angle to examine the question from. Which is great because most of the time I hear people discuss it they specifically ask "should games be 60$?" and then they do a diatribe about inflation and go on about how "gamepass is the best value", which is beyond grating to me by this point. Its a bit wild to think how comparatively limited options were in the past, the digital revolution really did revolutionize the cost and access of games. But these days I see way too much of 1) indies racing to the bottom by discounting their games either too much or too quickly after launch; 2) big publishers not discounting their 10+ year old catalogue almost at all (hi ActiBlizzard); 3) potential players not supporting indies because they're waiting for the games to be given away by epic or appear on gamepass day one. All of which can probably be separate topics/videos. As can be a discussion on regional pricing which I have some strong opinions on but I digress. Really liked the video, glad you're doing better after the surgery, can't wait for the next video !
To me, the biggest problem with modern games is I bought my PC around the same time as the PS4 came out, and it kicked the PS4's ass. The past 3 years games have been pushing graphics so hard that now my PC can barely play these games so they're not even worth buying. I don't even know how the PS4 is holding up. Thanks to Epic I have Control for free, which I want to play, but I'm fairly certain it's going to run like shit, especially considering the performance of Quantum Break. I'm not exactly sure how within the same generation my PC went from pretty good to utter shit and being forced to go from medium settings to bare minimum. In the case of Ghost Recon Wildlands, it legitimately looks worse than a PS2 game (And I've recently played the OG Ghost Recon and Halo 1 & 2) and still runs at an unstable ~30fps. I guess the benefit is that because I can't actually play the games I don't get scammed out of money on total garbage releases.
War Thunder and the like are a blight. I gladly paid for Wings of Prey, but I refuse to spend any money in WT. I never got super into it, playing it on and off mostly because of the ludicrous grind, and there's like 6 factions that all have their own aviation, army, and navy. I played for months and only managed to get aviation for the US to maybe tier 3. And I only hear from people who play higher tiers that it just sucks to play, and fuck that. And every time your vehicle is destroyed in game it costs currency, and the higher tier vehicles cost a lot of coin so it's unsustainable. They also only update higher tier stuff no normal person can access and have constant massive updates and a huge install size.
