Like it or not, you are part of the problem of the expensive AirBnBs. The surge in digital nomads drove prices up in the last 3 years. Also, landlords in the center of Oaxaca and other desirable neighborhoods have kicked out long-term renters in order to convert their places to AirBnB. How can you help change this? Stay in hotels and hostals, places intended for travellers.
This is an excellent point - thanks for sharing. In our case, we spend at least a month in each destination so an apartment-type set up is really most suitable.
How is this possible? Every Airbnb I’ve stayed in on the Yucatán peninsula (Riveria Maya) has been in areas where locals do not live. It’s gringo areas that give Mexicans who own those Airbnbs opportunities to make money on tourism.
Hola! Sus videos son muy buenos, me encanta su vibra, y les sugiero que si pusieran subtitulos en español, tendrían muchos más suscriptores!! Saludos desde la ciudad de México!!
You girls rock. Even you expend more than expected, I guess the real balance is if it's worth it. On my humble opinion it was. Great video, it keeps getting better, can't wait for next Sunday to see where you're taking us.
Great timing! Our family is headed there for Christmas, and your video has me so excited. Looking forward to lots of walking/hiking, swimming in local springs, great food, and learning more about the history and cultures there. You all gave a great series through Mexico.
Great timing indeed! You and your family will have an amazing time there. Oaxaca was really a perfect ending to our time in Mexico; we have lots of wonderful memories as we move onto our next adventure. 😊
I rented for 2 weeks (15 nights) in Xochimilco, the last 2 weeks of July. It was very basic and simple, not much included, $800 Canadian....very over priced in my opinion. It was basic accomodation. Prices in Mexico have risen very quickly, like everywhere. It's not an inexpensive vacation destination.
Kelly Pond, thanks for noting that prices in Mexico have risen quickly, like everywhere. It helps if one has much experience like our freedom years on how to keep costs down. Go With Less channel spend a lot on their meals like $100 for dinner! But these ladies, are more frugal and keep costs around 3% on average. But myself, and spouse, who reside in US, we would not know frugal tips as we travel little. But when we travel, we eat frugally because it’s all about the views and experiences etc. 😊.
@@janefromthecountry1820 if you ever get to Oaxaca, I go for months every year, you will find fabulous food, art, generational artisans who weave, paint, make pottery, furniture, shoes, clothing, baskets, linens, it’s an amazing place, inhabited by skilled artists. The culture is rich and robust. But now, it’s also much more expensive.
I love your videos. They are so informative and would like to travel at a similar style as you do. It really makes me want to retire early also. Until my retirement, I will have to enjoy through your travel. I am looking forward to your next destination. :)
You did a great job on this! The pronunciations were amusing at times 😂❤️🇲🇽, but not to criticize- great job covering my magical city!! Loved seeing you eating Memelas, tlayudas, and hiking to Hirrve El Agua. And Monte Alban is so sacred and amazing. Well done!!! And wow, you did pay a lot for that Air BnB. I have quit using them, they have gotten wildly expensive with service fees and taxes. So happy you came to Oaxaca!! Thank you for this great representation. ❤️❤️🇲🇽🇲🇽👏👏💃💃❤️❤️
Judes, great comment. Since you're local, I'm curious about something. I agree AirBNBs can be expensive-- though they're fairly convenient, especially when one isn't onsite yet. Renting from a local is probably a lot less expensive, but finding / renting takes being there, and more effort. Have you found any websites or services that fit in the gap between these options? I'm planning to spend time in a few places in Mexico in the coming year, including Oaxaca. And ladies-- of course I'm curious if you've seen anything similar. Thanks-- and thank for the great videos!
I enjoyed your beautiful video It was fun exploring these lovely streets and markets of Mexico City👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you so much for sharing Dear friend 🍃👏🏻👏🏻 Looking forward to seeing more
Not really. I think. Rather. We have to accept foreignness. As an integration to his way of trying to say things. I live here in the US and I'm tired of correcting the gringos for calling burritos "burriros". Over time I gave up and now. When I'm with the gringos. I also say "burriros". Why complicate my life? In Mexico the same. Mexicans already understand the Spanglish of the gringos. LOL
I don't agree, sorry, these girls travel all over the world, can you imagine them learning every single language of every country they're staying at? No, they're doing absolutely fantastic, I've been in the States for many years, and still find it difficult to learn a second language.
Love the video as always! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures ☺️ Speaking of sharing, what is the bag that Stephanie is wearing around 1:40 in the video? Thank you so much and I can't wait to see where you go next ☺️
So glad to hear you enjoyed it! The bag is a Patagonia Atom model. It's worked so well for travel that Gillian got one too. It holds a surprisingly amount of stuff for a small bag.
I say this a lot, but I never feel like your costs are shockingly high! Granted, you aren't including things like care for your pets, flights, etc. But I will say that 3k is about our regular monthly expenditure pre-FIRE. So I guess it just feels normal to me! Glad you got spend time with family.
Always good to hear! We do like to show that full-time travel is affordable and we're always a little sensitive when the costs run higher than expected...but at least they're still very manageable.
I thought this overview of the beautiful and uniquely culturally rich city of Oaxaca was quite bland…with a bit more research, you could have paid Way less & done much more. However, I was happy to see you in the La Merced market. You also Way overpaid in San Miguel de Allende all around. Do a little more research before you visit places and get better deals. You are an adorable couple, and I especially am interested in your focus on pet friendly destinations.
Hi! I don't remember paying for additional AirBnB occupancy tax in Mexico 2 years ago. On average how much did you pay? I'm planning another trip there soon
Hello- You do a great job on all of your videos! You both are so likable and entertaining. It’s so fun that you share the sights, the experiences and the food with us. It’s so wonderful how you are living the nomad lifestyle during your young years! Thanks for your honesty on costs of air b&b’s and food. Helpful. Your doggies are so adorable! 🐶🐶💗🌈
Awesome video and excellent overview of beautiful Oaxaca! Loved all the food trials, the amazing sites, and the time with family :) This video makes us nostalgic! 😊
You didn’t heard of memelas before because in other parts of the country we calle them sopes, in other parts they called them picadas, etc. 1 think they do very well in Oaxaca is to market everything like if it’s truly original from that area… for example, Alebrijes are originally from CDMX 🤣.
I think if you didn’t stay on airbnbs Mexico is very affordable. I’m staying in airbnbs in Dec in Mazatlan for less than your amounts and the are right in or near Centro and the beach.
We had a couple short bouts during our entire time in Mexico. We've found that it's important to follow the proper safety practices, especially when trying street food.
