A little sad this is your final stop in Mexico. As a new resident here I have learned a lot about other cities from your fun adventures! I don’t suppose you are sharing yet where you will go next, but I will stay tuned regardless! Have all the fun in Oaxaca!
So great to hear that you've been enjoying our content from Mexico! We'll be sharing our next destination during our livestream on Sep 25th. Hopefully we'll see you there! 😊
Thank you. I'm going to Oaxaca & Puebla next month. Watching your vid makes me very happy we are going there. It looks lovely. It looks like you travel with two dogs. That's so cool. Did you bring them from the U.S? I'm asking because I also have dogs and would love to travel around Mexico. I could stay longer if I could bring my pups with. Cheers!
We brought our dogs from Canada -- they are small enough to travel with us in the cabin of the plane. It fairly manageable to travel with them in Mexico. Just make sure you check all the country import/export and airline requirements before booking your trip. 😊
Oaxaca has been on our list for years, but the pandemic blocked us from visiting. Excited to hear your experiences there. Please share your thoughts on different types of mole. Learnings Spanish makes visiting Latin America so much more enjoyable. Even if it’s Spanglish, people respond well to it and you’ll have a better experience. Where might you be going next? If you’re in Mexico, it makes sense to visit Costa Rica and Panama. South America is a great place to spend (North American) winter, as its summer below the equator. I hope you get to Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru, some of my favorite places.
So far we're speaking a lot of Spanglish but even having a couple words makes things a little easier 😊 The moles are very interesting and quite distinct from each other. So far we've just had a few colours so we'll have to keep sampling them. We'll be sharing our next plans in our upcoming livestream on Sep 25th.
another great one! living vicariously through your travels. Learning as much as we can. Cant wait for some day retire early and do some travelling abroad!
Hi there! very outstanding! I am really hoping our aunt heads back to Oaxaca again this winter. I would love to dedicate one of our Exploratory trips there to take advantage of her local knowledge. If not, we probably will still go eventually. Do you have a feel yet of the local music scene there? My wife and I really love access to live music. And, of course, plays, museums, etc are fun too. Safe travels!
Glad you enjoyed the video! We haven't seen much of the local music scene. I will say that San Miguel de Allende has a very lively expat community with lots of cultural activities so that's a good one to look into as well. You can see our video from there bit.ly/3C1x9VS
You have GOT to go to the Marco Polo seafood restaurant in Oaxaca. The seviche alone is big enough for a small lunch and there are more locals than tourists (at least when I was there in 2018).
There are two, I live in Oaxaca. One Marco Polo restaurant is right by El Llano Park, gorgeous tree-studded setting. The other is in San Felipe del Agua to the north, known even more for its seafood. Both are FABULOUS.
@@judeskingsbury5549 I'm not sure which one I went to. It was on a lovely tree-lined street in a residential neighborhood and we took a taxi to get there on a friend's recommendation.
Hey! I'm living in Oaxaca since 8 years ago now, I stayed here because of the food, but also, because it's really interesting and colorful! Actually, "mercado de la merced" was the place where I used to eat breakfast every Sunday morning with my roommates, before I moved to a different part of the city. I trully recommend you, guys, to never say "queso Oaxaca" in here, 🤣🤣. It's almost an insult for the delicious "quesillo", which is very different from that thing that people in other states buys in the supermarket. Enjoy Oaxaca!!
Love your vids, you two make me feel as if I am there with you. Great personalities projected through a fun, upbeat attitude. Charming, yes you are both charming! Keep the vids coming.
As this video progressed, I turned to Joey and said: "you're making plans, aren't you?" He's wanted to go to Oaxaca for a while. When you were in the markets, with initially thought that Stephanie's corn drink was going to be Champurrado, which Joey tries to get every time he's in Mexico. I wonder if Gillian likes the apartment, as it kinda looks like army housing. As soon as Joey saw the terrace, he said: "Sold". Looking forward to seeing the rest of your adventures there.
Ha ha...happy to help motivate you for your next trip to Mexico! We're really loving Oaxaca, especially for all the interesting food. We haven't encountered champurrado yet...we'll keep a lookout for that one.
No Europe this time round. We're heading to a very different part of the world. You can catch the update in our livestream ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cTAzWy-fIZI.html 😊
That apartment looks great. I would prefer a regular sofa for sure but the bed looks comfortable and that for me is absolutely essential. And that patio area with the wonderful view of mountains definitely top trumps an IKEA Gronlid! Plus you have an apartment underneath for family. Boxes ticked. Food looks good but maybe place on hold that plain hot drink and double down on the chocolate one.
The apartment certainly covers off all the basics plus a wonderful terrace. We're really enjoying it. And, yes, definitely double down on the chocolate con leche -- so good!
As a Oaxacan, I would recommend you to try a "champurrado", which is a mix of "atole blanco" (the plain corn hot drink) with Oaxacan chocolate. You'll love it.
Hi, I'm new to your channel, and I'm a language teacher. 30 minutes a day on Rosetta Stone is not nearly enough. You need to be doing a minimum of 10 hours of focused study a week to learn a language--then using it a bit on top of that--so watching the reality TV show does not count as your focused study hours.
I completely agree. I'm using Rosetta Stone to pick up some basic vocabulary but it would take more immersive study to make conversation. Gillian has a year of Spanish education and has been learning with a professional tutor -- she's making much better progress! 😊
Yes, there are a number of villages in the region that produce traditional crafts like the plates. We expect to visit a few of them while we're here. 😊
omg, there's NOTHING to be 'embarrassed' about, watching telenovella-soaps to sharpen your Rosetta Stone!! how hilarious. take it from a 40yr ATWT oakdale ADDICT!! like, i literally live in oakdale . . . in the tv in my brain.
Really enjoyed this new video didn’t know Oaxaca was so pretty! Sending good vibes 😎. Also your most popular videos ever are from Mexico 🇲🇽 interesting fact 🧐.
Another great video! The color contrast in the final shot was gorgeous. You both were glowing with a hue of blue behind you. I hope after Mexico you explore South America.
If wearing those "blessed" things outdoors is STILL required, then this gringo will just save those pesos from visiting Oaxaca. Masks outdoors was one reason I left Merida.
@@tryrobb8594 It is not obligatory to wear masks outside but the locals all do- doesn't mean visitors have to at all. No laws stating masks have to be worn outdoors but to enter nearly every public place, yes.
I think it depends on where in Canada. Certainly most exotic fruits are available in Toronto, my hometown. However, some of the other parts of the country might not have the same easy access.
I am amazed that people from the first world panic when they are missing their power consuming appliances. Here in Mexico we don't have money for those expenses and we barely use washing machines or dishwasher ( a complete waste of space and water ). I am happy that you like Oaxaca but sad because of the environment.
I wouldn’t be sure to call Oaxaca the foodie Capital of Mexico, not because it doesn’t deserve such designation, but because there are many other cities regions that also have credential to have such honor such as Puebla or Merida
Once atole Blanco cools down you can make it into a paste to make piñatas. 🪅. It is literally cornmeal and water. When drinking atole get the chocolate flavor or strawberry. They add fresh fruit and sugar. Much more palatable. And conchas are always dry. Not a big fan either.
