65.7% of North Korean defectors report having sent money back to North Korea.
It may seem like North Korea is completely cut off from the rest of the world, but channels of communication still exist. Many North Korean defectors send money back to their homeland, also opening up opportunities for information to be exchanged. Learn how this process of sending money, known as remittances, works in the world’s most authoritarian country.

Can you do a debate between North and South Korean regarding Re-unification - a for and against debate?

How does the person in north korea receiving the wire transfer from China have a surplus of cash to give to family’s? What do they do with the digital money? Do they send it back to China to then have it given to other people in other countries or do they plan to escape the north with all the money from the digital transfers?

Hello to the team of "Liberty in North Korea"! It would be extremely interesting to interview DPRK defectors and GDR defectors, in the same room, and compare their different stories and experiences (before, during, and after their defection). That could teach us a lot of things

I think it is amazing that LINK spreads awareness about this. I read about this money transfer system in "North Korea Confidential" and this helped me understand it better and hear a real voice rather than just read about it.

Really interesting! I hope more people decide to defect after they find out their family members are living better lives. But also I was wondering, when the families receive the money, do other people become suspicious that they suddenly became richer? ~:~

No , why would those who receive the money flaunt their wealth and let everyone there know this?

I find North Koreans who have escaped their country so strong and brave that I sometimes feel useless in my own life that I can't even do enough to leave my non risky country.

It's okay, you'll find your way. May take some time, but you'll get there!

@@williandalsoto806 I know but my only struggle is money while these people literally have to risk their lives just to get out so I just haven't tried hard enough. I'm definitely doing more next year.

Then maybe you don't need to leave your non risky country. That's the problem with the west.. they think they're suffering. They think they're oppressed and that life is terrible but the reality is we are a bunch of spoiled brats who even at our worst.. have it better than most and that should be a slap in the face to us all. But it's not. We moan and groan and Complain from our $1,000 cell phones and use our freedom of speech to make tik toks and tweets about how awful life is in countries like America or Canada, etc. We really don't know what struggle is. Most of us have clean water, a roof over our head, transportation, a bed to sleep in. We should be much more thankful than we are.
