As soon as Pete found out Clark’s secret, the writers had no idea what to do with him except to make him a tagalong for Clark. There were literally episodes where Pete’s only scene was to say “Clark, what are we doing here?” or “Clark, what are we looking for?” He did so much more in the first season.
@lemondropzs

Yeah I remember watching the show and finding those scenes odd because he just popped up out of nowhere. Like he was not even around to have any knowledge of what was happening and then he just shows up for a random scene.
@nintencat

Yeah. Happens a lot during the script writing phase. They write a character in, with all the best intentions, but then don't really know what to do with them once they have them. Paint themselves into a corner and then try to paint themselves out. You see this a lot in other shows.

@jeffkeenan5059 6 месяцев назад
He did it to himself. He demanded more lines and more scenes. They showed him the door. Look at Tom’s face as Sam brags that he was the lead on his first two projects. Being the grandson of Sam Jones ( NBA legend) certainly gave him a big head.
@nicktubara
@nicktubara 6 месяцев назад
@@jeffkeenan5059oh i had no idea he has that lineage having a grandad being on the nba. I liked his role in the show n was glad that he got to come back in later seasons. I did hear that he was having issues with the law at some point, good to see he's still keeping at it. I will say, that it would be EPIC if the podcast ever have Allison Mack on there, it would be HUGE considering what she been through over the last few years. It would be redemptive of her to do it where she can allow herself to be candid n honest and not hold back.

@@jeffkeenan5059 You've got the wrong attitude. To succeed in life, you need to be able to swallow your pride and ask for help. Your approach is the exact opposite of what you need to do. People who succeed are the ones who are able to put their pride to the side. For example, when an investor is trying to close a billion-dollar deal, he has to be able to take personal insults and criticism. Society today revolves around people working together. Nobody can succeed alone. I know in acting, actors need to learn to get along with others. If you're not known as a team player, you'll get blacklisted. Look at Terrence Howard in Iron Man. Or Marcus Chong (Tank) in Matrix. They all got big heads, and lost big opportunities.

Yo!!!! How awesome to see Sam!! I have been hoping for this for forever! I loved Pete, especially when he was brought into the fold as Clark's confidante. I think the problem was his role was also being done by other characters. Because Lex did the bestfriend role, Chloe soon got the confidante role but also was the plucky sidekick, his parents had all of Clark's knowledge since birth and brought more mature storylines with the Luthors. And getting rid of Pete probably afforded them to bring in Lois as a series regular. I would have loved Pete to come back several more times during the show to help Clark out, not like the gum episode. Clark just superspeeds to chat with Pete at some bar and helps get perspective. "No worries Clark, that's what friends are for."

I believe he said to the producers/creator he wanted more material for his character because he was not given much at a certain point. What hurt Pete's character more than the writing was Chloe being so popular and the chemistry that Tom and Allison had. It was always interesting to see the friendship dynamic with an actual ship in the picture. Now I have a better understanding of why you left Smallville, both the town and show. The suspense of Clark's secret, and no one knowing was killing me. Pete did save Clark's life, proving he wasn't just a liability, and even heroes should have back up💯

Black don't crack. Pete looks the same, and you can really see it when he is right next to his former costars.

Poor Pete, he was the most well-acted nuanced fun character on the show, and yet, he was rendered pointless by writers who didn't know what to do with him. Like, seriously, what was his purpose on the show? Oh, he knows Clark's secret and keeps him grounded. Okay, so do his parents, and they have the added interest of being regular mortals tasked with raising a demigod with the maturity level of a teenager. He's Clark's friend, so is Chloe and Lana, and Chloe helps him investigate stuff. Lana is a love interest. Hell, Lex Luthor is also his friend, he's the complicated friend. Like, this show made Pete the most pointless character of the show, which is a shame because I knew the actor was doing everything in his power to make Pete mean something...

Homie's hairline is still the most super hero esque thing about the entire show.

You can tell Tom was cool with Sam you can just tell that's why they worked as best friends on smallville

Everybody’s upset Pete left, meanwhile I’m still upset over who the hell was cutting his hair during the series…no tape line or Nothing
