Halloween is here and its time to remake one of my old horror games in VR. Play the game: overphil.itch.io/specter-spot... Discord - / discord Instagram - / overphildev #unity #gamedev #devlog #indiegame
It feels a little sudden to have some of the objects change, like the tv dissapearing or the wall panels completely changing color. Going back to the animations method would probably be better, that way you could slowly fade between states or what-not. And of course, shining the flashback would instantly revert it. I feel like this would improve the gameplay too, as changes might not be so obvious, you might miss them as they creep up on you and when you finally notice it, it's already drained a bunch of your sanity meter
Only thing I would change is the flashlight. I would have gone for one of those flashlight where you have to crank it to charge it. You can then shine for a few second, depending on how long you cranked it. And then the flashlight slowly discharges and the flash becomes less bright. Maybe you have to shine on objects for longer to change them back with less brightness. The player then has to actively choose between charging and shining around. Good game with this implementation as well tho
This is an amazing little spooky game. But there is one thing that could be inproved. I think the scare bar looks a bit out of place. It would be more scary, if it would be kinda part of the UI. I don't know the proper word, but it would be similar to the low health in most games. The fov would get lower, the screen would get a vignette effect, and a heartbeat would start playing, and get louder and louder. Yes, the playet wouldn't be able to properly see, how much time they have, but I don't think that's a problem. It would even add to the ambience. And while it's hard for me to wait for new videos, don't overwork yourself, and happy Halloween!
Dunno if this is being developed more, but having a cellphone as an unobstrusive in-game object could be the flashlight, and you can see just enough of the phone's screen to see the battery level. Idk, just cuz having a cell phone on the table show a flashlight's battery level is a little immersion breaking (was also thinking the fright meter could be something like the shade of red the lamp puts off, and eventual visual distortions if it got high?) Cool concept and fun video, thanks.
the scare meter should have been handled like the first night in The Joy Of Creation Story mode. simple vignette whilst making it black and white at the end with screen shake would have been amazing especially with VR.
I was thinking maybe you put in a flashlight object in the player's view and it displays the battery life on the handle. it would probably help with the immersion and you could sync it to one of the vr controller's positions.
