There are other reasons to want to preserve one’s life beside just a fear of death. Some of these people are expressly “told” during the NDE they have something left to do. Others have family to take care of. I think most still feel the need to preserve their lives but if that’s not possible, they’re not distressed about death. Your argument would be applicable to something such as the existence of miracles, but it makes no sense in this context. Spritzer isn’t explaining anything- he’s reporting observations. This is what some people who’ve almost died describe- how they feel during an NDE, what they see, what they believe. It’s incumbent upon YOU to come up with an alternative explanation, not the other way around.

The people with these experiences themselves say it was spiritual. THEY are using the language of spirituality to describe the events. It is usually (though not always) a subjective event, so it’s impossible to tell these people they are wrong. As to the underlying CAUSE of the NDE experience, which may be what you’re trying to get at, there is no satisfactory scientific explanation. (And yeah, that's _exactly_ what people seem to refer to every time you hear them say something was "spiritual" or their "spirits were lifted", right? It's just them having an emotional experience. Well emotions are real. We have evidence of them. We could in fact reliably measure those emotions being shifted into a different state. If you commit to B, then you need good evidence that the correct explanation of the experience involved the spiritual world. The video didn't provide that and you can't either. _Knowledge requires evidence,_ so when you admit there isn't evidence to be had you're admitting there isn't knowledge to be had. Meaning anyone claiming to know the correct explanation (like that it "supports" the spiritual world) is wrong and maybe outright dishonest. They aren't _theorizing_ what it supports. They're saying it supports it. That's wrong. It doesn't do that.

In fifty years, neuroscience has not been able to explain consciousness, never mind spirituality. You're demanding proof from a field that's still in its infancy, while also ignoring possibilities because the answers do not follow from certain precepts. That's what's called "epistemic closure". I would suggest you read up on the actual scientific literature surrounding NDEs and consciousness before you make up your mind prematurely.
