I’ve never thought of Seth Rogen in this way before and I’ve never considered how his writing process is. Thanks for giving me a new perspective, Karsten!
Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Jake Gyllenhal are the three actors that I can count on for determining if I'll have fun with the movie in advance.
@@maulalex08 I mean it wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be. Sure it was a disappointment after the great Nightcrawler. It had some great moments (particularly the cowboy robot was an excellent creature design in my opinion) but yes, in the end it was very forgettable. Not bad though.
Legend has it that young aspiring filmmaker Quentin Tarantino began writing the screenplay for his debut film Reservoir Dogs after watching several of Karsten Runquist’s RU-vid videos.
I watched Superbad twice this month, it's literally one of the greatest comedies of all time and the ending is so bittersweet, I can't help myself from shedding a tear. Seth Rogan is an unnoticed genius.
2020 is really full of surprises, huh. I mean the last thing I thought I would see is a video essay about Seth Rogen and his hidden genius 😅 But great watch nevertheless. I also think that the guy deserves more credit than he usually gets.
5:49 I usually find it strange seeing a film essay youtuber actually physically active instead of sitting in a room and telling me why Spider-Man 2 is the best thing ever made
Superbad is held below most other coming of age films, but imo it’s should be held at the same place to other classics like the breakfast club or even modern classics like lady bird. And while at first glance Superbad definitely seems to be completely different and much more focused on ball jokes and period blood, the characters have a lot more depth and feel more real then most teen films coming out today. It also perfects the art of raising stakes in comedy, as it’s most insane jokes come later when the movie ramps up. All this elevates it above the other Judd Apatow era comedies, as by focusing heavily on the characters and making their situations feel real, it rises above a bunch of comedians sitting around and improvising for 90 minutes. Not to say that’s a bad thing, I just think Superbad is a little more nuanced. Maybe I’m stupid though who knows.
Hey! You know how you did that one video comparing Pixar and Studio Ghibli; and you ranked all of the Pixar films. You should rank all the Studio Ghibli films.
Good video! But white bars?.... i understand ur doing something different, but there's a reason everything has a dark mode these days, toooo bright! D: GGs tho
For me, The Holy Trinity of Seth Rogen movies is Superbad, Bad Neighbours and Sausage Party. No, I haven't watched all of his films but to me, these are my favourites, Superbad being the best film out of those three and Sausage Party being the worst but it's still hilarious. This Is The End was awful in my opinion, I just didn't find it funny, I just found it annoying and overstayed it's welcome.
If there’s one thing about the Mario movie we’re skeptical about (even by Illumination standards), it might have Donkey Kong just being Seth (Anti-)White (Supremacist) Rogen.
"Anything successful, no matter how you define that term, is worth dissecting. Because if said piece of content is successful that means it connected with someone for a specific reason, and that reason, in my opinion, is something worth exploring." This is an awesome way to look at things. I've been thinking something similar for the longest time, but couldn't name it. I wish more people approached things this way, instead of dismissing them and people who enjoy them.
Yo, K-dog! Your videos are always the highlight of my week! In fact, you inspired me to make my own video essays on my channel! Anyways, I can’t wait to watch this video, as I am sure it will be great!
Love the way you put "hiding the humanity behind stupidity." I think that's so true. And nothing is more infuriating than when you watch that kind of content and someone around you can't see that aspect and what that thing is *really about. Just deduct it down to only the dick jokes since that's what's on the surface and easy to spot
Great video! A small suggestion on your narrative technique: pause a little after presenting a point. Give your audience a minute to register your argument before moving on to the next one, or presenting an example, especially because you make a lot of good points. This way, you'll engage a non-cinephile audience to grasp what you're saying. I was listening to this in the background while lying down and had to go back every time to understand what you were saying. you can get a lot of new viewers lazily enjoying RU-vid this way. Anyway, great video!
