How Slow Was Motorport's Biggest Flop? | NISSAN GT-R LM NISMO 

Nissan missed the first races of the season and went to Le Mans without preparation. They brought 3 cars (#21, #22 & #23). All were over 20 seconds slower in qualifying with #21 being slower than the LMP2 pole. In the race #21 & #23 retired and #22 didn´t do enough laps to classify (to complete at least 70% race distance). From what I know,the concept wasn’t a terrible idea.If everything would have gone to plan they would have a car with good downforce at the front,so it wouldn’t create lots of drag and the most powerful car on the grid.But when the aero team and the power unit team work completely standalone and realized their ideas didn’t match,it should have been called off

I feel like if the car ran with KERS and actually stayed in development for 1-2 more years it could have been competitive

Now we need these two cars and the delta wing for a comparison, if possible

During the qualification, the Nissan still hit 337kph. The car had less acceleration but it had more ICE power and less drag, giving it a very decent top speed still.

I remember driving this car in gt sport a nightmare in low speeds even back then I understood nothing but new car was bad at low speed but decent at high speeds

Fun fact: the gtr lm was designed by same person who designed the deltawings, also powered by nissan

atleast it managed to finish, boy have you heard of how many laps did an Aston Martin AMR-1 go around before it retires and how unbelievably slow it was..

Wasnt it the idea of going so quick on the straights... corner speed doesnt matter? I thought it was supposed to do 400+ at straights, so they would be in the lead in the corner sections... regenerate enough power for if someone would dare to pass them, they would drive 60+ kph faster on the straights and be in the lead again. Shame not every system worked... would have love to see it in full function.

The worst LMP1 ever and 21st century biggest flop is not this car, it is the Aston Martin 2011 one, wich was not only slow but managed to complete only 6 laps arround La Sarthe.

i think everybody at nissan knew this wouldn't be a revolution. but the idea is interesting and it was well done.

Anyone making that claim about the Nissan in question should be prepared to explain to me by what metric the AMR-One was more successful. I mean, I guess being able to make money selling your chassis off for use in other projects is a success of sorts.

The Aston Martin AMR 1 from 2011 may actually compare to this thing.

iirc it was supposed to be AWD but they had an issue during development which meant it was FWD

Part of the reason for the LM Nismo's failure was because its flywheel-based hybrid system couldn't get its reliability issues sorted in time for the LM24.

What if it had an actual working Hybrid system? How much faster would it be?

I had the privelage of seeing 3 of these in person with the GT Academy team at Le Mans. Honestly, if they did not rush the project and had the time to implement its hybrid system, I'm sure it would have done well.

The Nissan GTR LM NISMO 2015 obviously, is Honoka Kousaka's main favourite car in Gran Turismo 6.

Since it’s 2023 and Ferrari won the Le Mans 24hr and Lamborghini and bmw getting in to the lmdh but there’s a lack of Japanese lmd and lmdh I think it’s a perfect opportunity to bring back the Nissan GTR LM nismo use the same engine as the old rcp92 but modernized hybrid system like the Toyota gr010

I don't know about the visibility of this thing. Those two wheel arches on the front will block the view while turning, though. Especially on hairpins.

Nissan could've race the car as a test. With rear wheels' hybrid power, thin rear tyres, and incredible aero and downforce, this could become the first front wheel drive LMP car to finish the entire season. Why rush it, Nii-san? Try compare it with Aston Martin from 2011, which is the worst LMP1 car ever?

In Real Racing 3, its the strongest of the 2015 lmp1.

In GT Sport, this was one of the worst driving cars considering its a GR.1, the FWD layout made the car too sensitive on steering and understeers on low speed corners, and the hybrid system is so terribly integrated, like foot down and boom, 100% Battery assist came on and burns out the fronts and kills any grip there is

You should compare it with other prototypes in granturismo... Granturismo made that car as it was intended before problems and cancellation of the project. Shes a real monster.

Nismo is for the beginner in LMP1. When your talent is not enough or fit for porsche or honda. You can join in nismo. Nismo is the 3rd choice or party in LMP1. Is not about the car. It's all about your performance. If you good in nismo you have high chance to transfer to Another better team/car in the next year.
