I would be upset if my knife didn’t look amazing against a knife 1/10th its price if not less. Benchmade makes good knifes but they can’t compete price wise (or bend wise 😂) with the companies that build in china.
Excellent test. This content is incredible and honestly something we’ve all wanted for a long time. It would be great to get updates on the warranty process too. Definitely voting to get a strider in there at some point.
@@BestDamnEDCround out the test with AD10 and AD15. All 4. I was thinking yesterday of replacing the "hard use" knife in my truck with an AD10. In the truck now is a Buck 110 that has done every job. Cheers!
You should show what it takes to restore and re-sharpen that, maybe make people more confident using their expensive knives when they know what it take to get them back to new.
Should give a cold steel a try and see what results you get. I'd be willing to bet a $100 cold steel will out last most more expensive knives in torture testing. Maybe something like the AD10 or the ultimate hunter or the bush ranger etc.
Oh man this is the way to go. WE NEED MORE ! Been using and abusing my folders for years, please lets see a SHF and a AD20S. My Zaans lockup is the same as the tested one, still works tho 🤘🏼
This new series has been really enjoyable, I like that a lot of the early “destruction tests” are leaning towards hard use and not out of the realm of possibility
23:16 rikki- why don't you hammer it in 😂 love it Also 24:20 insert clip from napoleon dynamite and the dude trying to break the Tupperware "I can't....I can't".
Looks like it might be time to durability test some... balisongs/butterfly knives? 😉I think we have quite a few that could use the Best Damn EDC treatment 😜
I had 2 Zaans and got rid of them. My magnacut tanto version is the one I really miss. You should do a Medford fighter flipper next! Loving these videos brother 💪🏼
Ive battoned kindling with a folder many many times- never a problem, but I always do it with the lock already open and only working with small pieces. ZT 0562 framelock with external stops just like the test knife. Id love to own that CR test knife. Just an awesome folder.
Ooo, I have two of these knives, one is identical to the Tanto blade (it was a gift for my brother), the other is an even older version where a different cap was used on the blade (I have the original key for its permission), both are new and unused.
I have EDCed my SOG terminus xr for about a year, and I have beat it up and it is still perfect. 50ish bucks, g10, d2, crossbar lock, it is the best damn edc for people on a budget. They also have one in s35vn for a bit more money.
I think basically any demko would be a good test, but what I really want to see is a dead reckon ridgeback. DRK also kinda says it’s fixed blade strength so that would be a sick video, plus REC has them in stock right now.
While I'd never put my Yo2's through anything like that, I've used them to cut through zip ties and small gauge copper and steel wire. Both the S30V and CruWear have held up very well.
You should make those test uniform. Eg. 50 cuts of rope, hose, cable and twine, ten staples, 30 cuts on cardboard. The same amount of drops on concrete asphalt and tiles. Cut test before testing and after. Than you could rate this on a scale of 3 good ok bad. And you could make something like a wall of fame and present he score in comparison to the others.
Brutal testing! I would never treat a folder like that even for the sake of "science". I have 3 Inkosi's and have used them all for daily carry purposes. I have sharpened each once in 3 years and a stropping usually brings them back to shaving sharp. I would like to see if the 4" Spartan Harsey held up as well as CRK in the same test. I have more confidence in my Inkosi's after seeing your video. Keep up the great content.
Honestly… I would love to see any of the cold steel knives… TheRaja 2… The Espada… Any of their tri bar locks… The Spartan, their code4.. I would love to see what they do for a 10th of the price
Had bought 7 Sebenza’s over a 15 year period from 1998 to 2013. I bought the UMNUMZAAN also. They are made from quality materials but the frame lock strength sucks on them both. I have had issues with every Sebenza I owned and I had 7 and I only bought 1 UMNUMZAAN and had same lock issues but given the track record of my sebenza’s buying another UMNUMZAAN would be any different. I’ve sold my entire Chris Reeve knife collection that I had . One good thing you can easily sell them lol . For me they are overpriced overhyped folders. My go to folder that’s truly like a fixed blade is either the 4 max , AD10 or the AD20 . The cold steel folders that have the TRI-AD lock are also like fixed blades. The Chris Reeves company saying the UMNUMZAAN is like having a fixed blade is a joke they have big balls saying that bullshit !!! . You did a Great video !
This definitely has to be one of the First, especially with a C.R. Knife...Well Done! Performed as expected, I'd be curious about the Sebenza, being a little thinner, and I own one myself but probably very close, far as another Brand to try this with, I'd definitely like to see Cold Steel! Then Microtech OTF's as a 2nd Choice for Fun 😎
Maybe do a Giant mouse Nimbus, on the webside they highlighted: perfect outdoor companion and a strong and capable knife. It realy feels like a knife you can work har and i have done a bit of cross grain batoning to make a few notches.
Sooo very cool video, however what jacket is that?? I love my mackinaw cruiser, that's pretty rad too with the zipper and the snaps. Nevermind I randomly was just looking at the Heat Straps website and I see it's theirs. Pretty rad.
This was awesome to watch. As far as the new blade play, the pivot could have just come loose. I’d try tuning it back up with the tools they send you and check again
I had a Umnumzaan where the locking worked so badly that I could close it by pressing on the back of the blade with my thumb. It was just a year old and had hardly been used. That's why I sent it in. But they just increased the tension of the framelock and said it actually needed a new blade. But that would cost $135. Besides, the repair had taken ~3 months. As much as I like their knives, I was very disappointed with the service. 😔
Love seeing the destruction tests! DBK fix blade ones are great and good to see someone doing them with legendary fielders! Keep up the great content! Thank you!
Test the Benchmade Freek… Dutch Bushcraft Knives said it changed their minds on a folder not being tough enough to baton… it was the toughest folder to handle the baton … I own one it’s a beast
I saw a post on a Facebook group once where a dude snapped his blade in half with the story behind how it happened and Tim himself replied to the post asking to trade the snapped blade for a new one to investigate on it😂 absolute legend
I’d be curious to see how a harder blade steel would react at the lock interface. Take a steel around 65 - 67 HRC. I believe the ceramic is topping the HRC chats at 80, so not sure if it would make a difference. Should extend the lock life Maybe a larger or flat ball for added surface area.
I never done anything that a folding knife is not suppose too with my small sebenza 31. and over the time (4-5 years only) it develope slight upper blade play because of that ceramic ball... wish I could get warranty but I don't want to loose it 1year loll
Ughhh, I was having some PTSD about the time that I dropped my Grimsmo Norseman off my lap onto the road when I got out of my lifted truck but I was shocked to see the titanium was almost unscathed thankfully!
I was on the edge of my seat! Fun video, but those drop tests were hard to watch haha. You really took one for the team.🫡 My Wilson Combat Star-Tac Umnumzaan is almost a decade old now and still a rocking edc.🤘
Maybe you guys already plan on doing it but you should send that in to the warranty department as “anonymously” as possible to make sure you don’t get any special treatment.
I would highly recommend you send the knife from someone else’s address so that can’t prioritize it because you’re an influencer. Not that CRK would but you can never know unless it’s not a part of the equation.
I get it, your a content creator and you have bills to pay.. but lets not become the Whistlin Diesel of EDC stuff.. I love my Zaan, Its a beast! Love you guys.
Typically when demand is that high the business decision is to increase prices until supply and demand equalize. Equipment, Bldg and labor investments are in the 10's of millions, there could be a recession and that decision could bankrupt the company.
@@Brian-rj5rl No one is asking them to do what Rolex did and buy the mines their materials came from, we're talking bring on a few employees. You're at the point here where your product and brand can be written off because why bother?
@ManOfEthnicity We're talking about pulling 3 phase power, adding building sq ft. and millions in CNC mills. Many premium brands keep demand higher than supply. Has Ferrari become irrelevant, they could easily double production to satisfy demand.
To be fair, you wouldn't really expect to baton with a 3.5" hollow ground fixed blade either unless you were a silly goose or making a YT video... Good test. The drop tests made me cringe every time. I've got a CRK in for warranty right now and they told me 6-9 weeks.
