How Teachers Should Do Parent Phone Calls | Step by Step | Teacher Tips and Training
There is a viral video that circulated recently, where a teacher recorded a phone call she had with a parent. People were shocked. They were disappointed. They were annoyed- at both sides! Part of the job of teaching is communicating with parents and guardians, especially when a student is showing challenging behavior, and these phone calls can be tricky at best and complete disasters at worst. As a teacher, I've had my fair share of impromptu parent phone calls, and I know first hand how sensitive they can be. So this week, I'm talking about the tips and tricks I've learned over several years of different students, different parents, and different phone calls, to share with you the specific things I say and the WAY I say them in order to manage phone calls and drive the conversation towards the outcomes I want. Have you had to make tough phone calls as an educator or admin? Tell us how you handled it in the Comments. And- if you haven't already joined our community of diverse educators, administrators, scholars, and education thought-leaders, join us today by hitting Like, Subscribe, the Notification Bell, and I'll see you in the Comments! I had almost this exact same call about a student. He was flipping chairs and having a tantrum because I asked him to sit in his seat. I needed this video. Thanks

Thank You! So on point. Helpful step by step parent/teacher/student resolution. However, we All know the outcome for the Teacher is to it to a higher level because you have 20 other Students to teach in class. These “challenging” take time away from other students who just want a peaceful engaging educational daily experience.

This is what I am talking about right here, Nena. Yes. Do this. If you do not get that bridge of support from the family of the student then forget it. Also, give them what they earn and don't play good grade giveaway with them. - Dwight
