How Teachers Should Do Parent Phone Calls | Step by Step | Teacher Tips and Training
There is a viral video that circulated recently, where a teacher recorded a phone call she had with a parent. People were shocked. They were disappointed. They were annoyed- at both sides! Part of the job of teaching is communicating with parents and guardians, especially when a student is showing challenging behavior, and these phone calls can be tricky at best and complete disasters at worst. As a teacher, I've had my fair share of impromptu parent phone calls, and I know first hand how sensitive they can be. So this week, I'm talking about the tips and tricks I've learned over several years of different students, different parents, and different phone calls, to share with you the specific things I say and the WAY I say them in order to manage phone calls and drive the conversation towards the outcomes I want. Have you had to make tough phone calls as an educator or admin? Tell us how you handled it in the Comments.
