Definitely, for the actors but there's a lot of other people involved in making a movie and the duty of hiring those people would usually either go to the UPM (unit production manager) or the producer who hired the UPM. And the UPM might discuss hiring decisions with the director and/or producers.

Hit the nail on the Head AGAIN! as a budding new CD. I have experienced all you have talked about when casting for feature films, proof of concepts and commercials. It's great when people understand the process and how many other factors going on behind the scenes and why actors should always bring their "A" game right off the bat. And I keep folks in mind who may not have booked the role but came close! I tend to watch for them to submit for other projects.

Hi, I just had a few questions: 1). If the main character of a project is being cast through a public audition, how likely is it that other important roles in the show or movie be casted through this process as well? 2) How does the selection process work for a self tape and how does a callback work in those conditions? 3) If u are a teen actor, does a casting team contact you through your parents contacts or through your personal phone and such?

Small indie films often use a combination of a casting director and an open call, in my experience. I'd suggest actors network and keep their eyes open. I will tell you an actor with a poor headshot or worse, no headshot is at a real disadvantage. Include a resume, please. I also like a video audition.

@ActingCareerCenter

There's no perfect answer for this. Some people make quick decisions and some people take much longer. Sometimes I've heard back within the same day and other times it took over a month. Also, you will most likely only hear back if you book the job. If you don't book it, you will not hear anything. That is just how the industry is.

I've even completely ruined shows doing live theater; in front of a live audience but none of the audience even knew that I screwed up.

One thing I do like about this industry is there's lots of different caveats to it. Example, I'm doing improv and I'm working on a job at a local theatre. Not an onstage job but still it's a thing. Much like this life, you won't always be center stage. To learn the different aspects is good. To enjoy what your part was is good. Without the idea that you were lesser without doing that.

I'm so nervous to go to the real thing because of the professional photographer and lighting and all, thinking i won't look that good, i guess that lighting 'covers' your flaws doesen't emphasize them ? Me who’s not an actor all of the sudden wants to be one 👁👄👁
@liquidbraino

Well it all begins by saying "I AM an actor" and then stick with it. I used to say that you can't really call yourself an actor if you've never been paid to do it. But that only means you're not yet a professional; working actor. Then I used to say you can't call yourself an actor if you've never been to school for it. But now I really think that it begins with that declaration "I AM an actor" and a commitment to stand by that statement; no matter what.... and then do the footwork to make it happen. That's the first step, the next step is to take action on that commitment and actually DO something about it, every single day.

How would it work for principle actors (main charactors)? Does it work differently or does the casting agent reach out to the agent to ask them if they are being considered to the role?
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 3 года назад
Yes, sometimes roles are direct offers and do not require the actor to audition. Typically, a direct offer goes to a celebrity or someone the studio knows will sell tickets and generate revenue for the project. Another reason a project might do direct offers is if they don't have the budget to go through a casting process. For example, if I write and produce my own indie movie that has a very small budget, I might direct offer the lead role to one of my friends who I know is a great actor, thus saving me the time and money spent holding auditions.

Hey Kurt, Do you know if there is ever feedback given to the talent’s agent from the callbacks if they didn’t book the particular role? Information that can be useful for them in the future.
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
That rarely happens unless the actor really messed up or did something that annoyed the casting director. If you didn't get the part there's usually no feedback at all, they don't even tell you that you didn't get the part - they usually only tell you if you did get the part. I've only had one single casting director e-mail me back to tell me that I didn't get the part and that was a very new; inexperienced casting director. There might be 300 or more people auditioning for a single role and that would be too time consuming to send an e-mail to each one of them to explain why they didn't get the part. A casting director isn't usually interested in helping you out with your career, they're only interested in filling each part that needs to be filled. That's more the job of a talent manager and/or an acting coach to help guide you in your career. You'll get plenty of feedback from your acting teacher because you'll be constantly performing in front of them; they will be constantly help you to make adjustments.

Animatronic isn't acting, it's a robot. Unless you're talking about performance capture but that's also not Animatronic. You've got to start at the bottom like everybody else if you want to get even the small parts, begin at the beginning; not at the top and the beginning should be acting classes. Then get good headshots; then sign up on casting sites (all of which costs money); then start submitting for acting jobs; then start going on auditions.

Get into a Meisner based acting class - they'll teach you simplicity. The whole point of the training is to remove all intellectuality from the actors instrument so that you're a spontaneous responder to what's actually happening TO you on stage. The first thing you have to learn in a Meisner class is to STOP thinking... it does get more complex later but you're taking it one step at a time. Complex doesn't always mean complicated.

Q. Is it possible for an Indian with no connections or links with any agent to get a leading role in Hollywood??🥺👉🏻👈🏻
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
No, but it has nothing to do with the fact that you're from India. It has a lot to do with whether or not you already live in Los Angeles, are already taking acting classes; already have headshots; reel; resume; profiles on casting sites and are already getting booked and HAVE been getting booked for a long time. If you just started out, haven't taken a single acting class; no headshots; no reel; no resume, nobody is going to give you a leading role in any movie in Hollywood. They're not even going to give you a supporting role in any major motion picture - that's IF you live in Los Angeles already. If you don't even live in the United States they're not going to buy you a plane ticket to come out here; pay for your housing; phone; car rental and acting classes. You've got to do all of that stuff on your own, already live here, already have a good job here, already have a car, already be paying for (and taking) acting classes before anyone in Hollywood is even going to take you seriously.

Hi I have a question I'm from iran and what happens if i pass my online auditions Like pays, visa and other stuffs Should i oay all mony my self?? How should i move to korea??
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
Korea? Kurts not even in Korea, he's in Atlanta Georgia. If you don't live in the United States then you shouldn't be auditioning for roles in the United States because they're not going to buy you a plane ticket, plus you don't always get to decide what kind of audition it is. Just because a lot more auditions became virtual after Covid doesn't mean it's going to stay that way, a lot of casting directors are going to expect you to show up; at a casting office here in Los Angeles and if you can't get yourself here they're not going to buy you a ticket and pay for your hotel while you're out here. Plus, if you're just barely starting out and haven't even taken acting classes you'll be lucky if you even get paid $50 to do a student film that nobody is ever going to see. Why would you want to pay $10,000 to come here for just one single audition for a part that you're probably not even going to get because you're going to be competing with thousands of other actors that DO live here and DID go to school for acting? You might audition for fifteen different parts and get cast in ONE of them if you're lucky.

Your videos are so great!! It's awesome to have a real experienced actor give us advice. I've got a few questions that I hope you can answer: 1. If I have zero acting exerience, but I think I can act well, can I still apply for auditions?? If so, what do I have to put in my resume if I haven´t been a part of anything related to acting?? 2. If the casting directors like someone's audition tape, could they actually cosider them seriously for the role even if they don't have any acting backround/experience on their resume and even if they don't have an agent? 3. Are the reels made with monologues? Do we have to record ourselves acting different monologues? Or how can I make a good reel? 4. Since we have to send our personal information in order to apply for an audition, how can we know if/which websites are legitimate and reliable?? Do you recommend some especific audition/casting websites?
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 3 года назад
1. You don't have to have any experience but I would definitely recommend getting some training first. At the minimum you should have some training on your resume 2. Casting directors will looks at it in terms of risk. How risky is it to hire someone with no experience? Depends on the budget of the project. If it's a multi-million dollar movie, it's unlikely that someone with no experience will be considered. If it's a low budget project such as an unpaid student film, it is much more likely to be considered. 3. Reels come from the projects that you work on. I would not recommend using monologues for a film and tv demo reel. 4. This is another way acting classes can be helpful because your classmates and teachers can advise you on the legitimate websites being used in your area. If you are in the US or Canada, the most popular casting websites are Actors Access, Backstage, and Casting Networks. Not all of them are used in every region so ask your acting teachers.

I started acting with no training at all. I was able to get booked occasionally with no training at all and learned a lot just work doing the work but after taking classes I'm booking a LOT more than I did before I started training. I used to book maybe one out of every twenty to fifty roles but once I started taking acting classes it's closer to one out of every five plus it's taking me a lot less time to prepare for auditions.

My final question is if you don’t get a role, will they tell you or will you just not hear from them at all after the audition
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
They usually don't tell you but it's not something to stress about or worry about. Once I'm out the door I'm already thinking about what's next, I put it out of my mind unless they call me. It can take weeks to find out if you got the part and by then I've usually already had several other auditions. I remember once a CD called to tell me I got the part and I said "which one?" because I'd already had four auditions since then. There's only been one time they called to say I didn't get the part, which I appreciated them telling me but it wasn't necessary.

Base on my country location, I feel is will be very difficult to be cast in a movie or evening audition,I feel like I wasting my prime age as an adolescent
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
There's always something you can do from where you are with what you have. You can learn by watching Kurts videos; other videos; reading books and/or joining groups on Facebook like "Talent Managers For Actors". There's a lot more resources available now than there were twenty years ago. But if you're still an adolescent you should be focused on getting a good education so you can go to a good college so you can get a good job that pays well because it's not cheap to start an acting career. There's a lot of things you're going to have to pay for - including (possibly) a plane ticket and relocation expenses if they're not making movies or TV shows in the city where you live - that means you need to MOVE to a city where the movies are being made.

I did a self tape audition for Nickolodean through Actors Access about 3 weeks ago and I was wondering if it is normal to not have heard anything from them? Would they contact me if I didn't get the job? Well actually I auditioned for future shows.
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 4 года назад
99% of the time you will not hear back from casting if you did not get the job. Part of this industry is getting used to not hearing back. So when you do an audition, get in the habit of forgetting about it and moving on.

Wow it’s good to know, I was so scared I had to audition in a room full of other actors but I can just do it in my room
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
That's not always an option. Sometimes you will be called in to audition in person but normally you get your two minutes in front of the casting director then you're out and the next actor comes in but sometimes they'll audition five or more at a time in order to see how each actor "works off" the other actors rather than in isolation.
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
@@hadialsayed2992 Before the audition you're usually given "sides" which is just a few pages from the script. It might be five pages worth of dialogue that you have to memorize before you get to the audition and SOMETIMES they give you nothing until you arrive for the audition, where they hand you two or three pages and only give you five minutes to go over it before you go in front of the casting director. And when you do go in front of the casting director it's not enough that you just memorized the lines and can recite them - you have to be able to bring that character to life in a way that SEEMS like you're just making the words up as you speak.

Do you have to pay for a casting because my daughter is trying to pay for a casting when I told her it's a scam
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino Год назад
You have to pay to sign up on the casting sites. I think Casting Networks (formerly LA Casting) is $75 to sign up and then $10-$14 per month. But if someone is trying to charge her to put her in a TV show or movie - it's definitely a scam. If a "talent agency" says they want to represent her but they are trying to charge upfront - it's a scam and they should be reported to SAG/AFTRA because it's illegal in the US for a talent agency to charge up front. They work on commission and get paid when you get paid. There ARE a lot of scammers out there so be careful.

I would guess that the breakdown would be a little less general than simply the age and sex of the character. There are quite a large variety of people that would fit such a general description and it would take unnecessary extra time to throw out the ones totally inappropriate to the part.
