It was a mistake going with an older Batman in this brand new universe

Your knowledge of batman really solidifies this video. No one can sit there and call you a Marvel fanboy, because its very clear you are a huge batman fan. I was really confused why they would use an older batman to introduce into the justice league. It sets a very short future for him. He already had a hard time keeping up with a brand new team against a second rate villain. It wont seem right now if they do go forth with Darkseid and he is still there. I dont know how they plan to play this out but their paths are already very limited.

DCEU is really far away from MCU its true. Marvel has taken time to develop its character and had introduced there solo movies and then slowly united them in a single avenger movie. They have their emotions,flaws, hardship,anxiety crisis and succeed in there life you can easily relate to common people's problem. So there charecter has so many layers. And in DC movies they introduced most characters at once and movies are rushed weak plot development. They intoduced a director who makes bloody r rated action movies like 300 etc and told him to do make PG-13 Man of Steel it was kinda okay but actually it's WB's fault. Upper Management people only want money so DCEU had a very bad start from the beginning they want to really catch up with Marvel but failed big time. But in comics DC is no. 1. Wrong people are involved in the movies.

Batman is supposed to be the worlds greatest detective but the Ben Affleck version is pretty freaking stupid. Going into battling Superman hes supposed to know EVERYTHING about the MOS before diving in including his secret ID (which should be simple with facial recognition software that I am sure Bruce Wayne would have if he wasnt 100% sure) and he would know that Supes Mom's name is also Martha! so that whole scene was just so silly! My jaw dropped when I saw that.. like come on really?

They ruined Superman more I think Batman should be somewhat sarcastic but that's it.

I wish they had adapted the Nolan Trilogy so they could have a more fleshed out character.

Zack snyder doesn't understand the DC characters well and that is why he screwed up the movies. He just want to do the movie that he wants, created his own vision, style and concept without following the style of the character. Btw for me I think DC had a better superhero than Marvel simply because of their unique characteristics and concepts..it's just that they didn't quite deliver it into the movie like marvel did. No offenses..I like Marvel as well..I like both basically but Batman is my favorite superhero.

A better word for "ruined" would be "wasted", he had so much potential to be a batman we havent seen before, a brutal, intelligent, man among gods. Zack never wanted his Justice league films to be like marvel, no independent films, no spinoffs, just a solid line of films which explored the Justice league story which he introduced in BVS, but warner bros greed and want to make a franchise that rivaled the mcu took center stage and as a result, ruined the story, and any potential for the characters to ever be fully fleshed out.

I love The Dark Knight Trilogy more than other superheroes

Batman was my favourite of all-time, I loved when Christopher Nolan brought the Dark knight series Nd Christian bale was awesome in his own style of portyaing Batman, but that was not the Batman from Comics or the Animated series, then BvS came, Ben affleck was good but still the makers could not make him the Batman whom we loved, In comics there are situations where the whole JL even Superman failes to tackle a situation then Batman comes with a new Hope, DC movie-makers instead gave that position to Superman so why should we need Batman if only strength matters there are plenty of Super-powered Heroes....there's a Unique thing about Batman which makes him superior to all the super-powered Heroes, that's missing in the Movies

I actually like Ben Affleck as Batman, and its not his fault the Batman in Justice League was poorly written imo. The whole movie was rushed.

That scene with Ace was so cool to me as a kid. It's fun to watch super heroes fight and stuff but I really love the scenes when they show why they do what they do and how much they care. Sacrificial scenes are also great as well,like the train scene in Spiderman 2.

I will always say this: Batfleck was underrated and needed a solo film to shine. He had the potential to be the best live action Batman. Sadly now it's too late for that.

I agree that the dceu is very shallow and underdeveloped. The only character who is actually good is Wonderwoman considering she places a major role in 3 movies , one being her solo. Now the Arrowverse is Okay. Better than the movies but very average overall. One thing I liked avout the MCU is character development. In regards to the Netflix MCU I felt more invested with The Defenders. The Arrowverse is very disjointed and out of place. Even Smallville was enjoyable. DC needs to get the writers for their animated movies to do their tv and movies.

I love the point you brought up about how the Dark Knight Batman is not one to be mixed with other uplifting Heroes. That version of Batman I felt was the wrong choice for being the first version of the character in the dceu. A younger more classic Batman would have worked better in a team-up movie, and in the future, he could have transition into the Frank Miller Dark Knight Batman.

This is something that was sad by dc after the Dark knight trilogy which was amazing. (that and cap America trilogy are the 2 best) But to be fair Marvel did so much right when setting up their entire universe and it was all set up to link up and connect from the beginning. With DCEU it felt separate and each movie was only planned at the beginning of each movie and tried to connect it later. I'm not trying to harp on but like you said Arrowverse is beyond amazing something until s4 of Agents of Shield and the Netflix series Marvel struggled with. Maybe DC didn't understand how much work needed to go into planning a universe like the MCU

I too loved "The Dark Knight Returns" comic since it first came out in the 80's. The problem with using 'elements' from that for a movie is that the impact of the story in TDKR, especially the fight with Superman, is something that was EARNED through generations of character history....not something that you can just simply portray on screen in a few hours. The fight between Batman and Superman was apocalyptic...the end for both of them and pretty much superheroes in general. In BvS, it was essentially their first meeting ever...completely different...and Superman had only been around for a year or so. Not that the basic premise of BvS couldn't have worked in any way, it probably could have if written and handled better. But there's much more to the TDKR comic than just the style and a fight between two heroes. Like you, I also considered the animated 'World's Finest' as the best representation of Batman onscreen to date when it originally aired, which was before Batman Begins. I think it still ranks right up there. That was a great way for the characters to first meet and be at odds.

you hit it right on the head of the nail when you said they chose the wrong version of Batman. You can't have Batman be old and jaded in BvS and then have him complete 180 and have him recruit a team in JL. Theres just so many logistical problems with Batman being old...

That scene with Ace is still my second favorite Batman moment after The "I am the Knight" in The animated series episode Nothing to Fear and the Dark Knight end chase.

"He took superman down with no gadgets". Well, that was utterly stupid line. I remember him clinching to Louis Lane in the same episode just to summon Superman to save him.

Such a brilliant essay with solid points. DC doesn’t know their characters well enough to make these movies - and it’s showing in its failures.

You know i wouldn't mind the idea of Batman finally throwing away his no kill rule if they actually made a movie or two about him showing that he won't kill until after seeing the death of Robin by The Joker who he didn't kill after beating, causing him to be very cynical and discarding it in order to prevent more criminals like The Joker from happening. Had this happened then Batman killing criminals in Batman v Superman wouldn't feel so out of character of him and actually make sense in the context of the story and the character. But instead what happened is that we got introduced to a Batman that kills criminals without any issue and the reason why we get this is that his sidekick died without us ever seeing it to understand why Batman is acting like this.

Justice League would have been a much better film if it weren't mandated to such a short run time. DCEU has always tried to differentiate itself from Marvel, but its really the stupid things that are causing it to fall flat and WB are the only ones to blame for this.

The DCEU Batman takes INSPIRATION from the batman from the comics. he is not and will never be and was never advertised as a COPY. It is so annoying when comic book fans think otherwise. I will agree however that the on screen version of batman should of stayed how he was portrayed in BvS. However his willingness or unwillingness to work with others from the comics doesn't matter because he knows the earth is in trouble.

Thank you for literally echoing every point I've ever made to my friends. I've said many times "In a world where Batman kills, the Joker cannot be alive. Most villains wouldn't be. If Batman kills random mooks, legitimate terrorists and serial killers would have been killed by now. But nope, in SS Joker, Harley, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, are all alive. Killers dozens of times over. Plus, by adding Doomsday and a shitty Lex Luther, they added tons of time to a movie that should have been good. It's like putting Thanos, Loki, and Civil War into one film. SPOILER WARNING FOR DARK KNIGHT RETURNS I feel I need to add in The Dark Knight Returns, many other JL members are mentioned. Diana (WW) went back to Themyscira and Hal (GL) went into space. Even Oliver (Green Arrow) is not only mentioned, but SHOOTS A KRYPTONITE ARROW, WITH ONE ARM. Batman has help from a girl who won't leave him alone, and his only remaining friend, who has his own ax to grind.

they said some really valid points and you do know what they are talking about because warner brothers is shooting itself in the foot over and over again and again with no idea what they are doing at all and they should just take their time in introducing their characters in much more developed and well writen manner.

I think the Batman in Batman V Superman is perfect. I love that Batman. But the Batman in Justice League is such a letdown.

Batman was great in BvS, just the way he should've been, Josstice League ruined him.

I feel like Batman's "No kill" rule is only relevant in stories that make it a factor. If I handed "Hush" to someone who isn't familiar with comic books, would that person know that he is so against lethal methods? Not to mention in cinema, every incarnation (including bale) has killed. Bale and Keaton's kills weren't' even "forced to kill circumstances". Whether it was keaton's Batman strapping a bomb to a guy, or burning someone alive, or Bale's crushing truck drivers. BvS simply made it more explicit.

Great video. I agree with everything you said. If DC continues their current path, they will just suffer more and more. They definitely need a restart.

In the comics as well as the Nolan trilogy (as dark and gritty as it is) you always knew that Batman was Batman because he wanted to SAVE people. But in the DCEU he and Superman just kills, explodes and destroys without considering the consequences. It's like they changed him from primarily fighting FOR the innocent to just fighting AGAINST the criminals. His motivation is just hatred. That is not what Batman is about. Batman is a good person even if he is a bit rough around the edges. But of cause Snyder thought he was in a contest with Nolan to make the most gritty Batman so he probably does not really care about what Batman is. Seriously, there are interviews where Snyder clearly just says whatever he thinks will make his universe sound more dark and edgy than Nolan's. An example could be when he said, that if his Batman had been imprisoned like Nolan's in Batman Begins, he would have been raped as well...
