I'll be honest, I prefer the legends version of the galaxy post ROTJ. Not only did it make sense for the Empire to break into a bunch of warlords going "I'm the new Emperor" "No I'M the new Emperor," the New Republic also didn't look or feel as powerless as it became in the canon. In legends there were still battles fought a year later, warlords weren't slinking away into the Unknown Regions, they were duking it out with other warlords and the New Republic to establish their dominance in the galaxy. The New Republic was smart enough to not reduce its military by like 90% like in the canon, because yes Mon Mothma did that, instead they worked in tangent with other sections of the galaxy to create new fleets and battle groups that were smaller but much more effective than the Empire's enormous fleets. I understand the new canon is just that, new, it has 30 years of story to fill the gaps in, but as it currently stands it just makes the New Republic incompetent and the Empire seem like they were just blindly obedient slaves instead of ambitious men and women who wanted their own power.

I'll never understand how jakku could be an underpopulated wasteland by the time of force awakens. Would think it would be the scrappers meca for everyone in the universe. Whole industries could rise out of the junk there.

At least Admiral Daala tried to unify the Empire by rounding up the leading warlords at the time and killing them with deadly gas.

It makes sense, especially the Stormtrooper Corps were so fanatical compared to the Navy. Which is essential to an insurgency like the ones in the Middle East. They worshipped Vader and with him gone, they have a rally point.

I like the Legends timeline better. That the Empire was driven back into a section of space and then they made peace. If you like what the Empire stood for then you could go live under it, but if you liked the New Republic, then you could live under that government. Kind of gave everyone a better choice.

I'll point out that monarchic systems also typically have clear lines of succession. For having taken a traditional, imperial title, Palps acted more like a Middle Eastern dictator than a monarch, at least in the (markedly inferior) Disney canon. It's a pretty fascinating look into things.

Palpatines _in case of death_ plan does not seem particularly Witty. He did have a few dark Jedi that might've stepped up and be Sithy. And Thrawn was extremely competent and quite Pithy. But destroying your overwhelming forces seem a Pity. His final plan was needlessly Shitty.

I like the idea of the empire being in the position of the rebellion, frankly the ST should've been about their remnants doing that, using Ties in 9/11 style attacks, their troops pulling Vietnam style guerilla warfare and the New Republic (NOT BEING WEAK LOSERS) has to find new ways to deal with such a threat. (with the Remnants REAL weapons focused on quality and hit 'n' run attacks, basically their non-suicide tech is based on new technology stolen from the NR instead of Imperial surplus. That would've not only logically followed both Canon and Legend's events, it also would've provided an interesting narrative twist in two ways: -The Villains are the underdogs in terms of physical strength and numbers basically a dark twist on the rebellion -The villains are more competent than ever before and provide a new form of warfare that our heroes have to overcome What a missed oppurtunity.

I wish the FO was more of an insurgency rather than a cheap rehash of the Empire with the Resistance being the Rebels 2.0 and the entire ST being a rehash of the OT while at it.

Like any regime, the Empire was very good for a lot of people, and they resented it's dissolution. It is very normal and understandable.

Palpatines plan was self defeating, even if he had succeeded with the Dark Empire he would have to start again with conquest and building a much reduced Empire, with a lot of valuable worlds destroyed and a far more unstable populace, for his resurrection. *A better option:* Just have the Endor battle group keep fighting and destroy the Rebel fleet there, or at least _go down fighting_ taking much of the Rebel forces with them. The Empire could afford to lose all those ships, the Rebels couldn't. Should the Empire prevail in orbit, once confirmed that the Imperial ground forces on Endor have been slaughtered or captured do a orbital bombardment of the whole region. At the least you'll kill any Imperial prisoners, saving them from being I̶m̶p̶r̶e̶g̶n̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶b̶y̶ ̶X̶e̶n̶o̶m̶o̶r̶p̶h̶s̶ _eaten_ by killer Teddy bears. The core Imperial worlds are still completely under control, along with the Imperial fleet. They dominate a major part of the Galaxy including its economic might and nearly all of the developed regions. Retreat, consolidating and focusing your forces if necessary on the highly developed worlds, snuffing out any resistance, leaving the backwater planets to fester (they'll probably suffer pirate raids without Imperial patrols, and if the Rebels step in to protect them that will tie up vital forces). But just do a Base Delta Zero of any prominent Rebel planets with a large battle group from among your *_over twenty three thousand ISD's_* currently left over. Keep twenty two thousand for patrolling and a thousand for attacking seems reasonable [taking downtime for servicing from the 23,00]. Starting with any planets that are important to Rebel infrastructure and logistics such as the Mon Calamari 🍤. A Taskforce led by a few hundred ISD's should take care of them, which is a much better use of inventory than blowing your own ships up, even from just _a revenge standpoint._ *TL:DR* Imperial headquarters in Corescant, the head of the bureaucracy hears that Palpatine and Vader are dead and opens the sealed envelope containing his will. In it he says Thrawn is now in charge and the Royal guard answer to him personally. He has the full authority of the Emperor. And here is a list of planets to get payback on. *Fleet officer:* [looking at the list] Mon Cala - makes sense, Bespin, Tatooine? Why Tatooine? It's of no significant value, to either us or the Rebellion. *Imperial official:* [reading over his shoulder] What's that handwritten notation next to it … _sand!_ …What?

Canon: 1 year after Endor, the Empire is defeated. No real stories to tell between ROTJ and TFA Legends: 15 years of war after Endor. Many stories to tell before the NJO. And this is why I prefer Legends....

I hated how they handled post the Endor empire and civil war. The idea that such a massive empire filled to the brim with zealous and ambition leaders would collapse in a single year. It’s just...illogical and quite unimaginative.

We even see this during Star Wars battlefront 2 (2017) on the endor map. The imperial commander says, "We shall use the rebels tactics against them."

The biggest void left wasn't necessarily the power the emperor died with, but his political sense and prowess. He was an extremely good politician. Thrawn was very good at military strategy, but he didn't know politics very well. He just liked to raid and play war with people. The best successor for the Empire would've been Tarkin, but he didn't make it.

What if Corusant was destroyed by a natural disaster, i.e an asteroid or an accident? How would it affect the whole galaxy?

an idea that I wish wouldn't been explored by Disney would be an operation valkyrie type thing in the empire. empire loyalists but anti-emperor that want reform not return to the republic that try and kill the emperor but fail, when the emperor dies they could have taken large amounts of territory. combine that with emperor-extremists and warlord new empires and the new republic aswell as a separatist resurgence and you could have a very interesting clone wars type series set post-episode 6

What i am asking myself right at that moment. What would have happened, if the Empire won the Battle of Jakku without the sucess of Raxs Plan to destroy the planet. Would the Empire be strong enough to beat the New Republic?

So what I imagined what would happened to Imperial forces post Battle of Endor pretty much did indeed take place. I figured there would be in-flighting, lawlessness and a struggle to reform a new empire; it all broke down into chaos until the final big fight.

I wish we got to see more imperial troops on Jakku because I’m sure they would be there in mass. Not all of them since they weren’t as fanatic but maybe a few hundred thousand would be there.

Vaguely reminds me of how at the very end of world war 2 the war was over but roving groups of SS and fanatics would roam around brutalizing civilians. The empire may have been destroyed, but the Empire will always have better fashion sense. I mean, come on, look at the Empires uniforms. While the Stormtrooper uniforms look sleek and cool, Rebel infantry uniforms look more itchy and uncomfortable than Garfield’s itchy Christmas sweaters.

How can a government that big and bureaucratic not have a plan of succession.

I think that's there's plenty of criminals and pirates out there that simply ditched the uniform and put those military skills to work for the highest bidder. I also doubt that the First Order is all that's left of the old Empire, I'm sure there's a few warlords with enough sense to fly under the Republic's radar. We desperately need some fleshing out on the sequel era!

It wasn't so much the lack of orders once the Emperor died. The Emperor was essentially motivating/coordinating all of the Empire through an ongoing force power. The Thrawn trilogy touches on this and it's why he needed his own force user.

Sounds a lot like Japan and Germany towards the end of WWII, complete with kamikazes and small roving fanatic units intimidating the locals and fighting (like at Castle Itter in May 1945 just days before peace in Europe)

New Republic: We need to make a peace offer that tempts Imperials into surrendering peacefully. Also New Republic: We declare that any and all imperial officers are war criminals. And before someone say they only meant the higher ups, in the wiki example they use a logistical officer for a ship. AKA the guy that was just tasked with making sure that there was enough supplies on the ship for the trip. So it means that if you were the head chef in the kitchen of a Star Destroyer and had never, ever killed someone or did something other than cook, you'll still have the NR police force knocking at your door to take you from your family and into prisons for crimes that have been dumped on you via generalization.

Ah, but it turned out that Palpatine had another plan. He had built hundreds of Star Destroyers filled with hundreds of thousands of cultists in an impossible to approach hidden system, each armed with planet-killing weapons. He then buried these ships until the time was right to reveal them dramatically. He then announced to the galaxy that he had survived (or maybe he died and returned), and that he would be coming to conquer or kill them in less than a day. Yeah, it's every bit as stupid as it sounds.

Basically the Legends material -entirely- on Star Wars was and still is better. They fought much longer then in Cannon. And the original reason why the Emperor buffing up its Military was due of the Galaxy outside threats coming in the future to dominate, and slaughter. Not only that in Legends made Empire and Rebels better, Empire troops despite loosing are competent soldiers, officers and leaders carrying out decisions and tactics on the field.
