I deliberately add far too many syllables to worcestershire sauce so that everyone thinks I’m just being funny when I am actually hiding the fact that I have no idea to pronounce it.

Fyi, towns in England with the "cester" (not "chester") suffix are mostly pronounced in that same abbreviated way: Worcester = "Wooster" Gloucester = "Gloster" Bicester = "Bister" Towcester = "Toaster" (Yes, really) The odd one out is Cirencester, which is pronounced "Siren-sesster"

Here in Brazil, it's just called "English Sauce"

My exs American family got me to say it, and immediately regretted even asking and went back to what they were saying instead, lmfao. As someone who has lived in a state [Massachusetts] with a Worcester (city and county) from birth, I find I pronounce both words almost as intended. FYI: Ohio was settled mostly by people from Massachusetts and other New England states as a territory. Having no real connection to England, they simplified the spelling of their analogous town to Wooster, which I find both fitting and very clever.

I love flexing on people about being able to pronounce this word. However, the spelling really doesn't help, and I'm sure if i weren't British, I sure as hell wouldn't be able to say it either- As someone who lives in the county of Worcestershire It honestly sucks ass to spell for most people, especially those who are dyslexic like me, so it is absolutely understandable that people struggle to pronounce it. I'd say the best way to describe how it's supposed to be pronounced is something like: "Wuss - tur - sheer" Or: "Wuss - tur - shyer" in some parts of the UK. It's still hard to say Worcestershire sauce, even if you can say Worcestershire correctly, because the amount of "s" sounds in it just gets you tounge tied and you end up saying: "Wusstehshisorce" Or: "Wosashasaush" Hell, even the company can't even pronounce it right-
