How The Owl House BROKE a Genre 

The Owl House series means so much to me and many others. The characters all brought some form of relatability that we all can connect with and it spoke out against bigoted mindsets. How has the Owl House impacted you?

27:19 There’s some irony with Eda’s reply to Belos’ final line, “We’re human. We’re BETTER than this!”, in which she replied, “Well, we ain’t!” Since we know Caleb Wittebane got together with “Evelyn,” whom we were left to infer was a Clawthorne Clan ancestor, the Clawthorne line presumably has a tiny bit of human DNA in their blood. Keeping that in mind, I feel that Eda’s reply to Belos has a lot more weight behind it, besides just the implied moral superiority. Eda & Lilith, are quite literally by this point, more human than Belos in every way, physically, morally, and even biologically.

I think my favorite development in the show is King's. How he started on having this self-important view and delusions of grandeur, only to learn that he's just a normal kid and growing to be okay with that...and so when King learns that he's actually an important god, he doesn't want to be seen that way anymore. King gets everything he wants, he's important, people respect and fear him, he even gets to rule over everyone with the Collector like in his fantasies, but by the end all he wants is to be a normal kid and so he's able to get the Collector with their issues.

There's one thing I just realized and I'm honestly ashamed I didn't earlier is the concept of Hunter. Like, Belos could've just killed his brother and left it at that (he also could've NOT but you know what I mean). But no, he actively tried over and over again to create a version of him that agreed with his witchhunter ways. He even named him "Hunter", presumably more than once. He was so unable to change and recognise he was wrong that he actively lost time and energy MAKING his brother how HE wanted him to be. And it failed. Every. Single. Time. He didn't need to make a right hand man like that, he could've taken any ol' Kikimora/Odalia type ready to suck it up for a chance to be spared, and yet... Hunter. Everytime.

For being a fantasy show, The Owl House is ironically quite critical of fantasy-making. From Luz in the beginning putting her friends/classmates in danger with her imaginative schemes, to Belos’ obsession with being a glorious “heroic” witch hunter & trying to recreate his brother, to King wanting to be the respected “King of Demons”, to the Collector not understanding death & only wanting to play without any regard for the safety of others. And don’t forget the main theme: “If we waited around for a prophecy to choose us, we’d die waiting. Which is why YOU need to CHOOSE YOURSELF.” -Eda Clawthorne. Luz went from saying “I am the good witch Azura!” to “I am the good witch Luz!”. Luz doesn’t need to resort to fantasy in order to be a hero, because she IS a hero in reality. She helps people and she makes a difference.

Dana Terrace has confirmed that she’s seen this in a Post Hoot and that’s fuckin nuts to me

I think the entirety of season 2-3 can be explained with just the clip "this mama's ready for trauma"

Luz Noceda is a true neurodivergent hero because her compassion, quirkiness, kindness, understanding and friendship to others who are different especially the witches of the boiling isles makes her a real human being. Belos might be human but he shows no compassion, no empathy, no understanding and no friendship towards others who are different just like the witches of the boiling isles. He’s nothing but a genocidal tyrant who has nothing but pure hatred against people who are different and he sees himself as normal, straight and perfect. I think he also has a deep hatred for humans who are also weird and different. That’s why he very antagonistic towards Luz Noceda because she’s weird and different but still has a good heart.

Fun fact about hooty, apparently we were going to have a origin story for him in the planned 20 episode season 3, but once again, it was ruined by Disney just like the beach episode

Honestly, the owl house really snapped me out of my escapism just a little bit, it’s crazy to believe shows can have such a large affect on ppl, love the owl house and it’s team ❤

The owl house is/ was the light I needed in my life. I like to say that the show found me when I needed it the most. It gave me something to obsess over, I was able to watch all of S2b with the rest of the fans. The show was my gateway into me becoming an animation fan.This show means so much to me and I just know that this is a show that’ll never be forgotten.

To me The Owl House is one of if not my favourite tv show of all time. I knew it was gonna be something special from the first trailer and I’m so glad the actual show itself proved me right. Everything about it whether it’s the characters, animation, settings, character development, subject matter etc etc was amazing. Another thing I absolutely loved about it was that it wasn’t afraid to take risks and I’ll always remember it as one of the best tv shows of all time

The final fate of Belos is so satisfying because like many manipulators meeting a sticky end, he ends up with nothing he can work with, no power except a last desperate attempt to worm his way into someone who sees right through him. No smoke and mirrors, no honeyed words, just a sad, sad man out of his time in a world which he has no place in because he never saw a place for him in it.

one thing I love about this show is how the conflicts for lumity aren’t based around them being gay. a lot of lgbtq+ relationships in media end in the couple breaking up due to their own feelings about being a member of the lgbtq+ community. as a lesbian, this series showcased a very refreshing and fulfilling relationship.

The Owl House was truly an entertaining animated series to watch. I never got bored watching all the episodes of the three seasons. It was really interesting to see the adventures of the characters and get to know them.

A top 3 episode for me was Hollow mind. That episode showcased how much the crew was capable of writing dark storylines and respected the viewer’s ability to connect clues into a plot thread. Big ups and ty to the whole team 💚

The owl house saved me. Last year was the hardest in my life. There is a war in my country, my parents lived in the subway for 3 months, and only ruins remained from the places where I grew up. I myself was forced without money and understanding that tomorrow I would travel from one country to another, in the hope that I would be lucky somewhere, I lost several friends, my dog died, and I myself began to slowly lose touch with reality because that this simply could not be happening, it was very hard to believe. But when the second part of the second season began, my life changed. I started living from weekend to weekend. Each new episode gave me enough air to survive the next week, and watching the reactions gave me the feeling that I was not alone, and despite all the horror, I have a small community that somehow supports me. By the end of the second season, I was mentally strong enough to understand that I'm not going to give up. And when the third season came out, I completely changed my life, I managed to achieve a bunch of things that I had only dreamed of before, and the feeling of loss was replaced by faith in tomorrow. When I finished watching the last episode, I kind of said goodbye to an old friend who was always happy to help me. And despite the sadness, the joy of how we said goodbye, there was much more. I am grateful to everyone who put their hand to the owl house, to the reactions to it, to those who simply wrote an essay on this topic, and even to those who cut its parts into tik-tok, you helped to pass the most difficult period in my life. Thank you.

The Owl House is a wonderful animated series and it’s my comfort show. The Owl House has great themes of found family, neurodivergence, LGBT, friendship, acceptance and understanding. It also has dark themes such as discrimination, conformity, bullying, genocide and abandonment. It shows that animation is for everyone of all ages and animation has to be treated with respect as a medium and not a genre.

Lmao, Belos pulled a Jack Horner-type power move

22:58 completely random, but I thought it was pretty impressive and disturbing how Belos managed to keep Caleb’s corpse relatively intact for 4 centuries, well past its expiration. He’d said that it was the only one left, which I’d have to assume is Caleb’s remains. I mean, it makes some sense that he’d try and find a way to preserve the original as a failsafe, in case he ran out of Grimwalkers that spawned from it. As he broke out of the ground, the tissue was necrotic and could hardly stick together for more than a few seconds upright, but even that was impressive, seeing as Caleb’s been dead for lifetimes. I’ve gotta say that Belos is hands down one of my favorite villains of all time. A man completely hellbent on eradication, even after finding a way to prolong his life for centuries, well past his due, who killed his brother, sacrificed his humanity to use forbidden power, and is now a husk of his former self and running out of his extended time; it’s so interesting to me!

Emperor Belos is my favorite Disney villain because he’s a mixture of realism and fantasy. He’s pretty much a bigot who doesn’t like anything or anyone weird or different. A few of my friends told me he is a puritan which means he’s sort of a religious fundamentalist but extremely bigoted towards people who are weird and different. They’re also bigoted towards women as well. Belos is both a puritan and a witch hunter. He’s basically Judge Claude Frollo from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

This video was refreshing. I'm sad but happy to reach the end of the series. I binged the first season then watched the rest as it aired and it was something special. It's definitely a series I will come back to every October for the vibes and nostalgia. It will forever be in my heart with the other series I adore. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Which also means he is the last vestiges of the Titan's will! And he is indestructible and has magic no other being has. . . Hooty is a Bug Demon specifically a House Demon who seems to be 1000 years old and has a body that's infinite or transfinite.

I only really found the owl house for myself back In fall of last year but it’s one of the shows that I will always come back for. Be it for the characters, the story and even the comedy. It’s an amazing show

The Owl House was my favorite thing that Disney has ever made. It helped me connect with some of my friends and opened my mind to diverse perspectives and, I believe really grow in my empathy for others. You never know what someone might be going through and, like Luz said, “Some people just need kindness and forgiveness.” It’s a hard thing to do, but I will always try. I want to aspire to be like all of The Owl House. Luz’s curiosity, Eda’s boldness, King’s empathy, Gus’s enthusiasm, Willow’s (who I relate to the most) bravery and growth to self-love, Amity’s determination, Hunter’s loyalty, and Raine’s courage. I will carry this show for the rest of my life. It’s so hard to describe how much I love this show. Thank you, to everyone who made it happen. Thank you, to the fandom that I am a proud member of. 15:30 I have a bit to say on the collector. I understand entirely where they went with him, and appreciate their efforts given the lack of time. I also understand he’s a very different character than we expected, and thats because he takes the tendancies of his closest friends. when that was belos, the collector was malicious and seemed cunning, though still a child. with king, he’s just a child, a little bit restrained and unpredictable. however, i wish we got to see the collector in the same light we imagine the archivists are, or in the same light he was shown throughout most of season 2. i understand they had limited time, but it would have been awesome i feel to see an angered collector who was vicious, cunning, and did all of it in the name of fun. i do think redeeming him was the right idea, but i also really wanted to see him be a proper villain, alongside belos. however, i feel that if they had a full season, luz’s sacrifice would likely have been… permanent. after so long with the character and with a whole season to finish her arc, the sacrifice play would sting a lot more and would be fit with the owl houses themes of subverting expectations more basically i wish dana and the team were just allowed to make their show, with no inout from Disney. no watering down, good, full seasons and characters, and likely, more mature themes, or at least a better respresentation of said mature things (watch the ubreleased pilot with audio for what i’m talking about- its a slightly darker toned story still with everything we already love about the owl house) ye. TLDR: disney sucks.

My only issue is if Titans can't be affected by archivist magic. How was king trapped in an illusion? How was the collector able to float him away from the earth portal? and how was the collector able to trap him in a sphere during his games?

This show is amazing in so many ways, and I'm always shocked that Disney didn't see the magic within it. This show could have surpassed even another magical series like Harry Potter(and that's still making money even to this day, so that's money lost for Disney) for all that it brought to the table but was cut too short. I'll say this, whatever stupid juice major CEO and board members are drinking from Disney and other companies are drinking. They need to stop, because they're going to go broke, get fired, or lose their business with their idiocy. Ending TOH is one of those bad decisions.

Honestly, I feel love ☺

It's like The Show's favorite word is: Nuance. So many tropes were subverted and portrayed in a way that gives the show dimension that's just as fascinating as the Boiling Isles. Luz being a walking embodiment of a Fandom for a Main Character. Eda being shown to be just as- if not a lot more- talented than her sister despite being the rascal that she is. Amity and Lilith as nerds instead of just being typical Type 1 Characters. There's just more than meets the eye when it comes to show. It's as deep as it is diverse.

I think my connection to this show came from some extent to its run coinciding with the last few years of my daughter's childhood. I could see adulthood coming to take her away from us - as it should - and I unconsciously started to watch shows on Disney XD again as a way of hanging on to that. Started with Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls reruns, but it quickly became the Owl House and to a slightly lesser extent Amphibia. By the time they hit us with Understanding Willow I was totally hooked. I'm not by any stretch the target demographic. I'm pushing 60, I'm an ally but I'm an utterly straight, binary, boring old guy. But how could I help but not be sucked in by this work of genius? It's a show that never looked down on its audience. It never lectured to us, it never talked down to us. Instead it trusted us to get it. It gave us characters with flaws, who grew, and you cared about. Characters that it made you happy when they were happy. Characters your heart could break for. It gave us action, and drama, and tension, and threw in humor at ungodly times. Hunter's squeak when they were talking about the Owl House game to the Collector. The look on the gang's face when the Collector tried to give kindness and understanding to Belos. As much as any show could under the circumstances, this show nailed it again and again. It had FANTASTIC voice acting. Zeno, Nicky, Mae, Wendy, Alex, they all had fantastic moments. I will miss this show. Gravity Falls gave us Dana and Matt Braly. We can hope that someone from those shows is now concocting the next masterpiece.

As far as what Hooty is, he does have a backstory that was cut in season 3. Terrace mentioned that it’s very slightly implied in season 3/the finale. My theory is that he’s a parasite on the Titan, or the first demon of the Boiling Isles. My evidence is that Hooty is in the Titan’s eye. It could be evidence of him being a parasite, but it’s also evidence of him being the first demon. In October, the crew had an art exhibit at Gallery Nucleus. Head writer John Bailey Owen created a poem written by an in universe character questioning where demons came from, speculating they originated in the dead Titan’s rotting eyes. I think that it’s an interesting coincidence that Hooty happens to be in the Titan’s eye in the in-between realm… The poem JBO made is interesting for a few reasons, but I think it could be evidence of Hooty’s origin.

I'm hoping the Owl House goes down with the greats like Avatar: The Last Airbender. Also, the fact that it STILL excelled despite Disney trying to put it down makes it even more amazing!

When I saw the promos for this new show, I thought it looked interesting. I'd been watching Amphibia and loved Gravity Falls, so I figured it would be worth a look. I'm _well_ past the target age group, there are only a few VAs on TOH who are older than I, and yet… Within 10 minutes of the first episode, I was hooked. I had no idea what an incredible ride it was going to be, or how much it would mean to me. Maybe one day, if I can get through it without crying, I'll even record a video about it. But the upshot is while I related to all of the kids, and while I got clarification on my own neurodivergence during the run of the show, the one I most related to was Eda. Chronic illness that's gradually stealing her power? Oh yeah I get that, entirely too well. Been living it myself. I've fallen in love with a lot of shows in my life. But the only one that I'm surrounded by so much unlicensed merchandise from is this one.

Just discovered your channel, and I immidiatly suscribed. You make grest quality content and I love how you keep being very original in your style. Thank you for thus wonderful tribute, you couldn't have done better, you payed a wonderful omage to the show and explained everything so well!

Another thing for Camelia, sending Luz to the camp would have had Luz meet other kids like her, weirdos who have been pressured to act more normal, and maybe actually make friends. Which I feel they hinted at with Vee's premier episode. But no know one seems to think about that.

Owl House Season 1 Luz : i want to be a Wizard and Live my fantasy to Learn Magic Season 3 : I helped a 16th Century Witch Hunter to Exterminate Witches the man Killed his Brother and then Cloned Him and keeped Cloning him because he was killed them over 350 years old by surving by sucking the life out of thousands of parlismens. This Generation's Gravity Falls ❤ That Started light and with a mystery to Pull the Audiences together ❤

I just caught up with the show this year before the finale and I am obsessed with this show. The Owl House, I’m not even kidding, has probably become one of my top 3 favorite shows period. From the characters, world building, writing, lore, voice acting, LGBT representation, diversity, etc. Am I upset that it was cut short because Disney sucks? Oh yeah🙄. But I’m still impressed Dana and the crew managed to stick the landing where shows like Star vs Evil crashed and burned. Thank you so much for making this show as good as it is(like talk about making lemonade from lemons🍋) and I hope you’ll be treated better with your next endeavors in the future. And if any are curious, Hunter(Zeno Robinson was fucking amazing) and Eda(Wendie Malick, perfect casting!) are my favorite characters, Edas Requiem is my favorite episode(that duet scene, oh my god✨), and Huntlow is my favorite ship💛💚(sorry not sorry)

I absolutely loved this show from top to bottom, but I think for me, Eda and Lilith and Rayne hit a special note because I'm an older viewer. Seeing older characters with their own arcs, showing that even the older characters still grow and have struggles and triumphs really meant a lot. And hell yeah to all the themes of diversity, neurodivergence, chronic illness, etc. They're all done SO WELL!!!

10:20 think something your missing in your analysis of Luz and her Mom Camilla that is clear to me as an autistic , ADHD person is that Luz is very heavily coded as neurodivergent (probably adhd and maybe autistic) People with ADHD get made to feel worthless and that they need to change a be normal which they cannot acheive in their childhood. Luz felt worthless not just because of her guilt over belos but because her entire childhood people had made her feel like her "weirdness" i.e. her neurodivergence (a different kind of brain mind than what is considered normal) was unacceptable. Apart from the time with the snake, Luz was just being the weird kid she is and nopt harming anyone but people made her feel like she couldnt be herself thats why she was so happy to escape into the boiling isles where she saw people as weird like her. In camillas nightmare the principl says that he was bullied in school too (hinting that camilla is also neurodivergent) and thats why camilla ends up trying to push luz into that camp to get her to conform. Camilla was wrong to do this and thats why she apologies to luz. Depression and anxiety is common in ADHD people because of how we are dismissed and considered too much or not enough throughout our young lives.

Honestly all that "you would be misereble if it happend for real" rlly depends on the type of the world you would end up in And what kind of realtionships you have back in your world for example if it were me my biggest problem would be that I would probebly want to stay there bc let's say I'm in general happier in this fantasy world, but I would feel guilty and sad about leaving my familly behind So I was rlly happy when at the end Luz got to have the best of both worlds...Litterly XD

honestly, a conflict between vee and any of the owl gang would've bothered me a lot. I'm so sick of "soft racism" due to a lack of communication and at this point, the whole owl gang has mostly already learned to embrace themselves and not conform to a group and how to communicate that. Vee has been so detached from the whole demon realm despite her origin it would've seemed forced if her biased pushed over her newly learned curiosity about the human realm, especially since we saw that whole conflict already when luz and vee met.
