I'm so glad that you're talking about this! I'm a little nervous about bringing this up with my clients for fear of hurt feelings... but when they ask my best weird tip, shaving is it.

It is a delicate subject matter for sure. I think for most its just the embarrassment of removing the hair in front of everyone. Just take them in a nice private section and do it them. Explain it's to make them look even more gorgeous :) Good luck !

Does this mean you have to shave your face everyday? What about stubble or ingrown fuzz?

As a former male dancer/ actor most of us in our company shaved daily or were completely hairless. But looking back some of the ladies/ ballerinas in preparation had some gruesome furries matted in their foundation. Since female ballet dancers tend to 'bake' and over powder to resist extreme body and stage heat, some of the cast up- close were cakey, furry messes, lol. It's great you bring this up, because the ladies would've definitely been open to it especially for those who transitioned from dance to acting auditions for film roles. That was in the late 90's. I suspect now ( 2018 ) many consumers are hip to professional dermaplaning and the use of the eyebrow shapers that are very accessible today to achieve photographic perfection.

Oof I've been having a hard time with this problem, I tried shaving once but I HATED when it grew back as stubble. I don't know what to do now.
@DeShawnHatcher
@DeShawnHatcher 6 лет назад
Hi Kasha you know once you start shaving there is upkeep that needs to be done. So the stray hairs can be plucked. BUT if its' really heavy you may want to find someone/estatician who can help you with removing facial hair. Please don't go to a nail salon to get waxing Ive seen so many horrible things happen to women who have had waxing done at a nail salon. Good luck

DeShawn, have you heard of the dermaflash? It's a device that exfoliates and gets rid of the peach fuzz.
@DeShawnHatcher
@DeShawnHatcher 7 лет назад
Hi Asia I hadn't heard about Dermaflash, but just looked it up. If this is something a consumer wants to try for themselves--have at it. BUT as a makeup artist it is not something I would recommend for our use.

I'm peach fuzz queen. My mustache is still untouched. I nair my facial hair about once a month. When my facial hair is too thick with random dark hairs, I don't even bother to put on makeup b/c I know it will look a hot mess. Thank God I have into run into this issue with any clients. YET.

I remember about 20 yrs ago at an IMATS show I was watching Ve Neil do a makeup application and she had one of those little battery shavers and she said she did it on every face she worked on. Just part of her workflow. I thought that was brilliant. I’ve had one in my kit ever since.

I’ve tried shaving but I get really bad irritation after even after using after shave, I cannot wax as I use Retin-A. I’ve been scared to touch my face with razors please help
@DeShawnHatcher
@DeShawnHatcher 3 года назад
Hi Angela Ok first DO NOT SHAVE YOUR FACE WITH ANY KIND OF RAZOR!!!!!!! I have been on Retin A the skin is thinning, hyper sensitive, flaky and dry so really going over your face with any thing could irritate beyond words. What I want you to do is use the moisturizers in one way (the way I demo) and get the skin to lay down. You have to be extremely gentle with your skin, no excessive rubbing, watch out for fragrants etc. Sorry for the late reply been sick as a dog for 3 weeks (non covid just regular annoying sick) Let me know you have read this. And please know that retina isn't forever.

Love it! I have one of those small razors by KISS cosmetics. I got mine from a CVS and it was in the 'House of Clearance' for maybe $5! Loved that joker. The first time I had to use it on a model because of her curly and coarse facial hairs, it felt like I was performing surgery....BUT she greatly appreciated the service. In addition, I will keep the tidbit on application in mind. Lastly, I have (2) faux sets of those ...what I call 'hair brushes'-simply love them. Now, I have learned another way to use the oval shaped brushes and to always have 1-2 in my brush set for "Peach Fuzz Patrol'. Thanks as always!!!!!

This is a great idea. I always kept the small manual razors in my kit but I've never thought to do this. When someone has a fuzzy face I usually use a very wet foundation with a wet beauty blender and apply the foundation by rolling down so it gets the hair to lay down. But this is genius. I just would have to get women over the hang up of having someone use a razor on their face. I'll definitely be using this tip for myself.

This something people don’t talk about much. I use the same technique and it works wonderfully. I have never thought to ask to shave the hair though. I will be adding a personal shaver to my kit. Thanks for the tip.

I carry small personal razors in my kit but have never thought of an actual shaver... I imagine women would freak out especially if there is lots of people on set. I would hate to embarrass someone lol. definitely need to grab one for my mens grooming kit anyway.

If you have models--its fine. if you have consumers--than take them into the bathroom and do it there to give them privacy--that's all. Thanks for watching-Loving Life (ahhhh love your name)

How do you sanitize the electric shaver between clients?
@DeShawnHatcher
@DeShawnHatcher 6 лет назад
Hi Morberid. Great question--interesting I haven't used that little one on more than one person at a time. BUT to clean it the little blade comes out and I can clean it with alcohol as well as the outside. Back in the day If I was using that man's razor, I would spray a hospital disinfectant on it--let it sit until I was ready for the next person about 20-40 minutes wipe clean than proceed. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching

There is also a spray sanitizer used for hair clippers that you could use on the electric shaver. Sally’s carries it. It’s usually behind the front counter.

I just noticed that you said no Beauty Blenders. 😟😔 I just bought a whole pack of them too...although I find that don’t use them often 🤔 and always use those wedge sponges. My assumption on you saying NOT to use the BB is for sanitary reasons. I just thought they were fine to use because you clean them but 🤨 I’m glad for my wedge sponges....which are cheaper.
@gentlestormwyatt
@gentlestormwyatt 5 лет назад
But this is also interesting. You go to Sephora and they carry BB with them to do faces with as well on multiple faces. I suppose that is gross. I’ll just keep my BB’s for weddings or people who get full services and give them the BB to keep. That’s my lesson learned. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Thank you for yet another great video.
@DeShawnHatcher
@DeShawnHatcher 5 лет назад
NOOOOOO when I say no beauty blenders is due to the motion we do when we use them. When it comes to my method of controlling those funky hairs I prefer wedge sponges-that's all Beauty Blenders have a place in your kits if you guys like them, for me I prefer wedge sponges. I use BB to blend once all foundation has been placed on the skin but not for Peach Fuzz
