Hey guys today I wanna talk about the roles in dota 2. Dota 2 is a very hard game for beginners to get into so I wanted to make a video briefly explaining what each role does. I will make more in depth content on each role specifically but for this video I just touch each role and gives a few hero examples.

As a 5 player who’s played thousands of hours I would rather summarise the position as plugging whatever gap is needed to enable the team to win. This could be literally anything from traditional jobs such as warding and coordinating to literally buying time and disrupting the enemy team to buy time for the carry. This doesn’t mean the 5 does not farm to secure the mid game. Witch doctor is a prime example where he literally can kill any hero in the game with a smoke

of course. The 5 should have farm. But it is not going to be the same as a pos 1. My point in the video is that you, as a 5, have the least priority on hitting creeps. You will always have things to do like trading, pulling, stacking, smoking, warding, teamfight. But you still will be clearing waves throughout and lasthitting whenever you can. I don't mean the 5 shouldnt farm but there is a time and place. Thats why you also see in pro games the 5 with lowest net worth and bottom cs score.

@@danielpandaman I also see in pro games supports taking farm priority when they are close to finishing an item which is used to keep the carry alive. Pubs aren’t that efficient so for a new player it might be accidentally encouraging them to sacrifice their own game. I would concede though that in the lower mmr games some are won just with simple good warding

@@jameswallace6249 i see your point. Yes. For pubs you definitely want to farm more. Just make sure your cores are happy because lots of core players are like man child and will break items lol. In higher mmr like 10k+ with pros and really good players 5s hit a lot more creeps. But they also understand when the right time to do that is and they aren't afk etc. I am not a great 5 myself to be fair.

hey I appreciate this video. I still have a hard time understanding things like pulling creeps and stuff like that since I'm still very new. Any chance you could make a video showing/explaining how to do that? Would really appreciate that. Like showing the tech and explaining it in a bit more detail.

yeah. Pulling is something you do to put the lane in a more favorable position. You want the creeps as close to your tower as possible.

Always playing safe lane. When role queue is all used up, i pick ranged heroes like WR, venge or gyro support!

This video is noob bait. I'm not saying you're completely wrong. But generalizing a game as complex as DOTA to "your number gets creeps" or "your number gets no creeps" is too generic. In LoL that works, but there are supports that do fantastically if they get a bit of farm mid game while an early carry fights.

If you know which supports can do well with a bit of farm, then you shouldn't be watching this video. This video is CLEARLY for people who are just getting into the game. They don't know hoodwink scales really well if she gets a maelstrom early. Or an early blink on shaker is amazing value for the team. For someone just getting into the game, "higher number gets lower creeps" is perfectly adequate. Stop gatekeeping this game. People like you is why Dota is far behind League in numbers. New players don't need to memorize every little thing.

@@MM-vs2et this video is still leading new players into a trap. If you just focus on 3-5 heroes you like playing then you will learn your position AND how your heroes scale. That's why I'm really good as a POS 4 but lose my team the game if I play 1-3. Because I don't understand those heroes yet. There's no general way of learning DOTA. The best way is spend time finding a small handful of heroes you like playing and spam TF out of them so you learn them. DOTA is behind in player count because it's actually challenging to play. LoL is DOTA for babies.

i understand what you mean. I am trying to provide an overview of the "general" ideas of the roles. Obviously dota is more complex. Someone who has just picked up the game will not know that picking morphling 5 is bad because they generally wont understand each hero and the dynamics of roles. I appreciate your comment.
