The Castrol Supra did not use a 2jzgte it used a 3sgte dual beams motor for the light weight and very tunable nature of the engine.

MK3 supra is the only one worth looking at, the others don't have a good look

The Supra wasn’t used in FF because it was badass. It was chosen because of all the cars they were considering, it was the only one that had a Targa roof and they needed an open roof to fit the scene at the end when Brian has to jump out from the top to save Vince, and Craig Lieberman’s Supra was already available to the production. That’s it, that’s the ONLY reason it was chosen as the hero car.

The first time I seen a Supra, I was a kid. There it set at the local grocery store. Black and gold. Gold wheels, moon roof and a wing. A mk2 Supra. I just new what I wanted when I grew up. Of coarse it would be heavily modified by now. Lol. Still think it’s cool.

People fail to realize that Mk4 A80 Supra was a sales flop in the 1990s, and wasn't all that while stock(a 1990s C4 "base" model Corvette stock gave it a run for it's money for a few thousands less). Plus the 2JZ did not originally began in the Supra A80 MK4, it originally was debuted in the Toyota Artisto/Lexus GS. Just like the 1JZ was debuted in the Toyota Soarer. Not the MK3 A70 (which is the best selling Supra to date). Go figure

I've had my 90' A70 for 15yrs and still prefer it over any other, The 7MGTE sounds better imo than the JZ series engines. Never had a head gasket issue with the 7m..... To be honest

In 1988 I had a 1965 Chevy pickup that had over 340K miles. Every 300 miles I had to add a quart of “honey” oil. It was a 3spd on the floor. I was in Huntington Beach, CA USA. I was in the slow lane on Beach Blvd at a red light. An Asian kid pulled up next to me in a new Supra. He was looking at me reving his motor. So I tapped my gas to let him know that I would race him. My old Chevy looked sweet with custom paint and mag wheels. When the light turned green I side stepped the clutch as did he. When I shifted from 1st to 2nd, my old truck broke traction again. I could see him shifting his gears. We were running next to each other. When I shifted from 2nd to 3rd @ 70mph the rear tires on my wore out Chevy “chirped” and I ran off and left him. The next light was red so we had to stop. Blue smoke boiled out of my dual exhaust to the point that he had to roll up his windows. That lil Asian kid got his butt whipped by an old wore out Chevy. He wouldn’t even look at me to give me a “thumbs up “ 🤣🤣😂 I was laughing, but he was pissed off.

The MK5 Supra gets hate for no reason. People fail to realize that the MK4 A80 wasn't a decent selling car nor was it popular. And the same ones that fuss on the MK5 "not being a Toyota" are the same ones that didn't go out and get the Lexus LFA, Lexus RCF, Toyota Supra A80 Supra, Lexus LC500, etc. All poor selling cars from Toyota let alone sports cars.

Aftermarket manual conversion kits are available for the MK5! (if u have the money). Stock motors have already achieved 8s quarter mile times and its only been 3 years! Also the B58 is still incredibly reliable even when tuned just like the 2JZ. So what if its a BMW, stop whining on because the MK5 is capable af!

You respect the work they do, but still nothing beats the original, hands-down no matter how you feel or what you have in your bank account I’m looking at the marquee namesake not the mix and match knock off

The Internet has made the Mk4 a better car than it was. Some of us are old enough to remember when it came out. We remember it was heavy. We remember it didn't handle that well compared to its rival and even its stablemates. We remember it was expensive. We remember most of them were specified with shitty automatic boxes. Yeah you could mod the shit out of it, but standard for standard, it wasn't anywhere near the GTR. And this is from someone who likes both. 👍

Ok...here is the truth about the Supra. Since the 90s were basically my youth years, I know this very well. The NSX was the top line exotic import and was the ONLY JDM supercar on the market. Mid tier JDM cars like the 300ZX and 3000GT sports cars with the commuter level Civics and Integra's were popular in the early-mid 90s but were meant as commuter cars and NONE of these were ever "tuned" back then, they were meant to be commuter cars. Remember, at that time, the car computers were crap so tuning wasn't really a thing. Then, in the early 90s there were some awesome domestic cars coming out. Viper & Corvette were high tier with lower level muscle cars Mustang and Camaros out there with quite a bit more HP than the JDM cars. The Viper was 100% a drool car in the 90s. Was in video games, magazines, and posters and went up against Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghinis. IMO the JDM cars were starting to catch on because of the quality. That was one of the biggest reason people bought the JDMs. Toyota, Honda had the quality and reliability behind them by a large margin. My parents bought a Toyota Avalon and that thing went like 250k miles! It really wasn't until the late 90s that tuners came out of the closet and started tweaking the JDM cars all to hell. When the MK4 Supra was introduced, it didn't perform that well, even the Turbo. The MK4 is only good when you tune it and people like me never wanted to do that crap in High School. This video is pretty accurate as the MK4 is heavy, bulky and wasn't fast stock, even the Turbo. I mean, sure it was faster than a Civic or your mom's Dodge Caravan, but not supercar level either. What shot the Supra up in popularity was the movie F&F. They took all the younger kid craze cars (Eclipse, Civic, Integra, Supra) and made them seem like you could hit 1500hp with a JDM 4 cylinder by just adding NOS. Freaking movie is dumb! But anyway, that's basically how I see the whole car scene in the 90s and how the JDM/Supra gained in popularity. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car but it wasn't always seen as such. I mean, just look at the sales numbers...

There was a test that was done between the MK5 A90 Supra and the new Nissan Z by Hargatry. Which the Supra A90 gapped the Z. It's all on you tube.

At the time the NSX was shockingly slow but it’s handling made up for all of that so comparing the supra to the NSX is kind of weird

People failed to realize that all the JDM hero cars flopped. Japan didnt care, they were all into motorsports in the 80s and 90s especially Super GT. To compete in Super GT, you had to sell a production car of the same model, so these companies dumped millions into R&D, and built bulletproof motors that can handle the tuning it took to compete. Honda weight lightweight with the NSX, Toyota went bulletproof motor, Nissan and Mitsubishi went next gen tech AWD with the GTR and 3000GT

People bashed the Supra, like the MK4 only came twin turbo and 6Spd manual. Most of these MK4 were NA, automatic and no spoiler. And now that Toyota is releasing a manual Supra, I wonder what all the haters all going to say. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Toyota just realized that developing new IC engines were not realy a good investment, in this new era. So they opted to choose the current best I6 manufacturer and chassi builder to parte-me with. I can understand the decision after all the toyota 86 is the same case with Subaru… Toyota spent money developing the i3 for the yaris and Corolla GR since its an engine that can be used in all toyota lineup, cant say the same thing for a i6…

Haven't really seen anyone mentioned this. But the issue with the supra for me is that it's not proportioned the same as the FT1 concept. Toyota took the FT1 concept and proportioned it to fit on a BMW chassie. No manual? I don't care. BMW chassie? I don't care. What I cared about is that it be proportioned similarly to the FT1 concept which was a work of art.

In my opinion the mk5 was a serious disgrace to the supra nameplate just because it had a bmw engine. The engine is good but it cant be tuned like the mk4. If toyota had brought the 2jzgte back or at least a new in-house built highly tunable inline 6 engine it would have been great. Also even with the new rear wing the design is still not as good as the mk4. Btw this is just my personal opinion so dont mind if you disagree with me or find my comment insulting or irritating. Everyone has their own opinions.

For me the MK5 are big dissapointing , I thought Toyota make 3JZ-GTE ( 3.5 liter ~3.8 liter ) with the new Supra MK5 and styling might look closer to Celica T205 GT4 .... but now I think I'm gonna stick with old one MK4 Supra.
