Here me out, I have the most simultaneously dumb and amazing idea for a “What if” video. What if the Darth Sidious vs Yoda fight in Revenge of the Sith occurred during a senate meeting, and the senate witnessed the duel.

I haven't read the books in nearly a decade but when I tell people Thrawn is my favorite character in Star Wars, this is the example I can always remember for some reason. He's not stupid OP with the force or some other random ability, He's just a tactical genius.

This is what I'm talking about with Thrawn. He was head and shoulders above any strategist in the New Republic. If it wasn't for the legacy of the Emperor's mistreatment of nonhuman species Tharawn probably would have forced the New Republic to accept a truce if not an all out surrender. He could have united the galaxy and prepared for the Yuuzhan Vong invasion the right way. Kathleen Kennedy had the nerve to say there was no source material for Disney's vision of Star Wars. Clearly she just wanted to do things her own way and damn the consequences. A character like Thrawn and you can't figure out a way to include him?! That's just wrong on so many levels. Glad to see her gone good riddance!

The genius of rebels was giving us Thrawn being Thrawn, then finding him a way of losing that there was no chance he could have predicted and then finding him a way from not being around for the original trilogy!! Because if he was the rebels would have had a harder time!

What a great analysis of the tactical genius of Thrawn. Sending just enough of a task force to be taken seriously, when his actual strategy was different. The defenders of Coruscant, by hiding behind their shield , did exactly what Thrawn anticipated. It was a compelling read.

Imagine if Thrawn had overseen the design and construction of a new class of Star Destroyer.

Ah Thrawn..... I love that guy. Who else read the book, legends, after he died but they thought he came back, but it was that actor, but there really was a clone? I wished and wished that his clone would've made it while reading that.

Thrawn was a fantastic example of the idea of using what you have. He didn't have unbeatable special abilities, or overpowered force powers. He just knew the strengths and weaknesses of every unit under his command, and deployed them in such a way that they capitalized on those strengths while minimizing the weaknesses while exploiting those same qualities in his opponents. Can't afford the manpower or ships to blockade a planet? Use an equally expensive technology that allows you to remove the ships and manpower from the equation. Cloaking devices blind the user as well as everyone else? Mount it on something that doesn't need to be able to see to function.

And this is why Thrawn is truly the heir to the Empire.

All seems lost when a mysterious signal from hyperspace ...

If I could make a Starwars show, you know what I would make? A Drama show following a group of imperials all the way from the rise of the Empire (one of them being a student of thrawn), all the way to a few years after the Sequel Trilogy, where a thrawn like invasion happens under said pupil, and is the last season or three. Imagine that, a Show covering everything from the rise of the Empire through the First order to the War of the Restoration of the Republic post Seauels with everyone in their elder ages or so at that point (maybe a bit later focus if you want to bring in some sequel era characters but older, yk). It may be a stupidly large scale, but imagine going in some depth to the Exile of the Empire with the First order, and the Post-Endor GCW Period, not to mention the buildup of the empire, all on screen.

Despite some of my negative opinions of Thrawn, I am definitely a fan of the character (and even potential) of Grand Admiral Thrawn. However, I believe, occasionally, the writer's undermine not only his abilities and potential intelligence, but others' as well. For example, I imagine a writer's meeting going something like this: writer #1: How can we have Thrawn blockade Coruscant without a fleet? writer #2: Invisible rocks!!! Oh well, it's Star Wars, where anything can happen in a galaxy far, far away... even space whales.

Cloaked asteroids reminds me of The Expanse. Earth was not able to detect the rocks either but no planetary shield to defend at least.

I feel like Thrawn would have returned to Coruscant with a bigger invasion force

Thrawn is a great military leader, but he has little tact when it comes to politics, and he could use more knowledge on logistics. He would have been a lot more successful if he just kneecapped the New Republic. Crush a fleet here, take a planet there, and when the Republic is in dire straits, call them up to sign a peace treaty that gives the Empire several economic and political advantages. Ironically enough, this is what the Ancient Sith Empire did to the Galactic Republic in their second war: hit them hard and fast, and when the Republic is having a hard time, call them up with a peace treaty to gain and solidify the Empire's advantages so that the Empire, stretched thin after conquering large swathes of Republic territory, can catch its breath. Granted, that wasn't the purpose the Sith Emperor had in mind, but it was politically and militarily sound. The Empire was able to consolidate its gains, and it was able to catch its breath in preparation for the next offensive against the core worlds. Destroying the New Republic altogether is way too costly of an endeavor for Thrawn's Empire, especially since the Empire wasn't as strong as it used to be under Palpatine. Occupying entire swathes of core world territories would require a far larger force than his small fleet. Not to mention that such a task could prove exceedingly costly for an Empire that has severely been stretched thin. Such an empire would be in no shape to fight the Yuuzhan Vong. Instead, Thrawn should have done what the Sith Emperor did and made peace with the New Republic after they've been hit hard enough by several losses. That way, morale is kept high, Thrawn can consolidate his gains, and his forces can catch their breath in preparation for further conflicts with the New Republic or with the Yuuzhan Vong. We could even see him plotting alongside Carnor Jax when the revived Emperor Palpatine returns, then after Palpatine is put down for good, Thrawn and Jax could lead the Empire, make peace with the Republic, and prepare for the Vong instead. But Thrawn kept on fighting long after he gained the advantage, and his forces weren't able to consolidate their gains. With the New Republic becoming desperate, they tried every trick in the book to kill Thrawn, and one eventually succeeded-using Leia as Vader's heir, they got the Nohgri assassins loyal to Vader to turn on Thrawn and kill him.

Thrawn is totally alive there subtle building it up in the Mandolrian and the Ashoka newest trailer.

My favorite Thrawn legends story, was when he found stealth tech that actually worked and sent the smaller imperial ship outfitted with this stealth coating into the atmosphere, and when his star destroyer the Chimera, appeared the planetary shield was turned on so he waited for the smaller ship to get into place shot at the shield and the cloaked smaller ship shot the target from inside the shield. thus making it appear the empire had weapons that could pass through shields. nearly bloodless seizure of that planet from the republic. I forget the book this happened in sorry, I believe it was the Heir to the Empire trilogy though.
