I am not perfect and sure there are points I missed, but I hope this can help a lot of people that are trying to figure out the swap for themselves.
The forms, Google, and Six Swapped Facebook group are your best sources of information. Use them but don't abuse them. That group gets enough people every week joining and asking the same questions. Use the groups search function and I am sure you now have almost everything you need to do this yourself. Go check out my harness merging explained video for more wiring info!
My personal build page is @Improper_Builds on Instagram but hopefully I'll start using RU-vid more again and go over the swap in my 99’ Legacy GT wagon.

i swapped my jetta from the na 5cyl auto to a manual gti 2.0t, now im looking to get a project impreza with my girlfriend and been thinking about this swap as a way to avoid paying the wrx tax lol thanks for taking the time to talk through your process!

We have an 05 Forester with an EZ30D mated to a 5 spd. We are running a SpeedyEFI and LS coils. It’s a great engine and is fun mated to a manual trans.

Is the EZ30D the 1st gen EZ30 with the metal intake manifold? I'm trying to decide if the price difference is worth it for the EZ30"R" or even EZ36

Dont forget you need an N/A subframe if your swapping an ez into a turboed car, the exhaust wont clear in you have a turbo car is what i was told. My ez30r dropped right into my 2007 impreza 2.5i

Pretty sure you can just notch the subframe a little bit on the bottom side but honestly most of the time it’s going to have a type of custom exhaust to fit that car anyways.

So my 2004 2.5rs has drive by cable. It looks like the EZ30D has a drive by wire throttle body. Would it be worth doing the swap or is it too difficult?

I’m running one on a Speeduino based ECU that utilizes TunerStudio (same software that MS uses) so it should be fine so long as they have the crank trigger pattern coded for.

Anything that has an ej25 or an fa20/24 should be bolt on (ignoring wiring(please do NOT ignore wiring(a dude called blackthumb on yt documented his build well)))

Im so tempted to do on a 2006 2.0L hawkeye. Is a manual swap and standalone ecu the only way to go about it?

No, you could keep the auto if you wanted and run it off of the phase 1 EZ ECU and motor. Phase 2 EZ30 needs a standalone for the easiest swap.

Would probably be the easiest to wire in a stand-alone and EZ36 engine plugs to your harness.

Probably easier than manual. You're going to need stock ECU, TCU harness and engine from a legacy H6

Do you think swapping a 3.6 into a 2005 outback 5MT would be decently doable or stick with a 3.0 engine?

I’d personally stick to the 3.0r especially because if your 05’ Outback was/is a 4 cylinder model, you could just find a 3.0 version of yours and swap the bulkhead harness and whatever else needed much easier. At that point you would only be doing a manual swap really and have to deal with the wiring for the manual and not the motor on top of it. The 3.6 is loved and hated but most people prefer the 3.0 as the 3.6 is a pretty different animal and not for all the best reasons.

@@ImproperBuilds Awesome, thanks for the reply. My outback is the 2.5 5MT, wasn't sure how the wiring for the 3.0r would play into it as it's all canbus stuff so was debating the 3.0d. I guess it is doable with time and research. Thanks!
