You saved me!! My 2003 Tahoe was broken into on the side of the road when it ran out of gas and got left here in Hawaii on the Big Island. I struggled with it for sure, days and hours, but with your precise instructions I was able to get it all replaced and now programming it to relearn the key. Thank you!

They’ve tried to steal my 2500 Silverado about 6 times in the last 2 years. I’m going to try to fix it myself this time, hopefully add a kill switch as well but that might be a little above my head. Thanks for the tutorial, hard to find the exact step by step vid for this exactly
@@KnowYourRoleBlvd They do it in broad daylight now because they know nobody will stop them, not even the police. Its the same in Tacoma, WA. We really need to take matters in to our own hands if you catch my drift. We need to give them something to be afraid of if not the police.
Helpful tip: on the white plug on the top of it that he says twist and pull out, there is a little tab on the top you need to push in with a screwdriver so you can twist it 02 silverado

I appreciate this very informative video. I replaced the whole assembly as you indicated. The only issue I have is that I can't seem to program the key. I have a 2005 GMC Yukon. The ignition key does illuminate my cluster but I don't have a flashing car lock light . I done this 4 times but no luck. Do you think I need the ignition switch straight from the dealer or a locksmith that can program my key?
Something frustrating happened today. I was at Auto Zone and got the exact kit you used. I told the attendant that I needed the metal U plate that is shaped more inwardly to hit the metal only. I explained that the U bolt in the kit would break the plastic. He swore it wouldn’t. It did. Now I am trying to figure out what to do. I don’t know if they even sell the plastic that is on the outside of the metal as shown in your video.
Towards the end when you said "take off this white clip, make sure its in the off position"... what is that cable for? I may have f*cked that cable up ... thanks for the help
what is a kill switch and what does it do to a vehicle when it is activated? I recently had a problem with my 2003 Silverado. The key stopped turning the ignition. All methods to extract the cylinder failed, so i drilled it out without damaging the cylinder housing. Now, i have a new ignition installed, but it is locked in place like the old one was. Only difference now is that the shifter on the column goes up and down through all the gears. It is no longer locked in park. Why is this happening??
The kill switch cancels the delivery of fuel to the motor so whenever someone who tries to steal it or start it they won’t be able to get fuel and it wouldn’t start
the whole steering wheel moves up and down after doing this. it also honks everytime i do a turn. What did i do wrong or is there something i mightve broken?
HELP I changed out the lock cylinder after they tried to take the truck, the issue I’m having is, the key won’t turn at all, I pulled the interlock cable that connects from the ignition to the shifter, and the key turns fine, and turns the truck on, but will only go into park and reverse. I put it back in, and the key won’t move turn at all, I tried the 10 min. Thing in the video with the cable out, and no luck.
@@Fiveten_dxn1el there is a pin, that goes in and out, when you shift. In my case, it was bent, from someone trying to steal it. It’s on top of the column. You have to take the plastic around the column, so you can see it, wiggle the shifter, and you’ll see a silver pin, about 2.5 in long and .25 in width. It has a cable running to the shifter, I believe? You can’t miss it. I discounted the cable, and took out the pin piece. just be careful, and patient. once the cable and pin is out, I just straighten it back out, reinstall, and good to go! I hope this helps!

I have a question though, I broke the switch, the last one you showed, that had to be twisted and pulled out, and I don't know what it is so I don't know how to replace it - or if I even have to. It looks like it activates when the key is in the start position. Can you tell me what it is called, what it does?
Glad the video was useful! I believe that connector you’re talking about is just for the chime when your key is in the ignition. If it’s chiming when you open the door you can take the spring out inside the plastic connector, I don’t run it on mine as I don’t like the chime sound.

hey whats up oscar hopefully you got this issue fixed but in case you didnt take the black connector off located on the bottom of the cyl lock housing it will have a white gear, adjust that gear until you have it in the correct position that gear controls the position of the switch hopefully this fixes your issue.
What is the little white clip you have to twist and pull out? The one you talked about right before you went to putting it back together. I broke mine today and I'm trying to find out what it goes to so I can replace it if possible. Please and thank you!

Same issue but you cut one part out I needed... I got the housing off... Now I cant figure out how to turn it lock to get it out of the housing to install new ignition
to remove the yellow plastic that comes on the cyl lock housing there is a small hole located on top of the housing get a small pick to release it once released the new ignitions just slides in hope this helps
I had my 2000 Silverado stolen and the damage was a bit more than yours but I can’t get it it start, haven’t replaced the ignition housing yet. Did you have a problem starting your before you replaced the ignition housing?
In my situation it started even after the damage, but not sure if all silverados have pass lock sensors which if damage will prevent from starting and it’s located on the housing itself.
Because if the key won’t turn then you don’t have power to the ECU which communicates with the ECM and the fuel pump it will turn over and act like it wants to run but it dies to lack of communication
I’m pretty sure fuel injection systems have to have communication to tell them when to fire properly I had a Duramax diesel that’s how mine works I tried to jump it off but with the key in the opposition it would not stay running
