My favorite idea for a slight change would be the ability to turn it/angle it while you're Riding the shark. It'd allow you to be less predictable. Possibly might be a good idea to get rid of the railing that makes it easier to predict.

Something that can works well too is a "drop roller" effect. After the explosion, you have a roll where, ofc you can't shoot but where you're invisible

Reefslider deserved so much better. Genuinely don't know what the hell they were thinking bringing Splashdown back, it almost always feels cheap whenever you die to it.

do you REALLY want to use wall? At least curling can help it get in (even if reeflux is like the best painting main weapon but nevermind that) and it insentivizes you to get in, instead of wall that wants the most mobile and painting weapon to just sit in one spot.

I find wall helpfull sometimes, its not the best sub reeflux but its the fact that it also has reefslider that makes it such a bad kit. If it had something like crab it would be an interesting kit since wall could protect the crab, but since it has reefslider i think the best buff it can get is to be able to jump off while on reefslider, it would synergize a bit better with wall since you could throw a wall, recharge your ink tank instantly and threaten with the lethal damage radius. Then after that you could throw another wall to defend yourself and paint more for another reefslider

If they let us jump off the reef slider at any time it would be a good special. Riding it all the way would give you a radius bonus.

honestly, the whole situation is a mess with reefslider/splashdown/triple splashdown. Although it's too late to rly do anything for Splatoon 3, here's my idea for what they should do in Splatoon 4: (click read more) - Remove Reefslider and Triple Splashdown entirely because they're just band-aid fixes - Replace normal splashdown a new special called soaring splashdown Soaring splashdown is basically a cross between reefslider and normal splashdown, but you get the best bits of each one. Basically, you get that marker that shows when you're about to throw a splat bomb, and you select any location within about a splat charger's range of yourself by pressing ZR. Once you do that, your character will perform a lower version of a super jump to that area and perform one big explosion. Okay if that explanation of soaring splashdown was too complicated, it's basically just regular splashdown except you don't do it in place, you can travel a little distance so that it's also an entry tool.

Being able to jump off the slider is so unlikely to happen, but it is a pretty good idea. But in-universe that strategy wouldn't work since it's the rider pulling off the handles that triggers the explosion. In other games, the in-universe mechanics wouldn't hold much sway, but this is Splatoon we're talking about. Next to nothing in-game goes unexplained in-universe. What I think would be a more likely fix is to let you steer the slider. I'm always thrown off that you can't adjust your direction in the startup phase, cause it seems like you should be able to. You should also be able to slightly turn as you're riding it too. No sharp turns, but big arcs, similar to ultra stamp before it got its turning radius adjusted. Keeping with making this in-universe plausible, you could also make it have two additional explosions, one from each side. You'd be able to choose which side you want to explode. But at the cost of these extra explosions your slider moves slower, can't turn as sharply, and the final explosion when you reach the end of your path is much smaller. For these buffs to work, the slider path would likely need to be lengthened a bit. Also, the side explosions wouldn't paint the ground very well (think suction bomb stuck low to a wall), to prevent the special from becoming zones cheese for long zones like Sturgeon and Humpback

One thing you missed is that people also thought that splashdown wouldn't return is because there is a single player level which already used the Splashdown from Splatoon 2.

When i saw the emppery kit I had seen it as the poor mans reefslider sinc u can follow curling bomb and than use splashdown so it was like a reefslider without the invincebilati but now a think its way better

To emphasize on the fact that it's supposed to be used to "get your team in" reefslider should grant 30 AP of run and swim speed to allies near you when you pop it for like 3 seconds. Also, we can make it able to do one 90 degree turn per use to make it less predictable, but also keep you committing to it.

they should fix it by adding steering, now before you crucify me, _hear me out_ Reefslider sucks because it's predictable, if you even had a little bit of steering it would be a million times harder to read, and it would add way more utility for hitting around corners and stuff. They should also make the starting lag way shorter because opponents literally have enough time to go bald before they actually have to dodge, like bro why do opponents get a 10 minute warning it sucks

The counter to reef slider is moving diagonally forward. Unless they're running tons of special up you'll almost always live, even if the explo hits. Turning doesn't matter because ultimately its really slow, and you're warned 2-3 secs before the reef even launches.

@Kookie_TV but then it's basically stamper that blows up 🤷🏿‍♀️. The problem is that the enemies can SEE wat your trying to do. They should simply take out the visual cues, you can already hear reef start up from spawn lol

These specials just feel like gimmicks or they have one good thing. Reefslider has zones cheese, so the devs assume "oh its a positive to outweigh the negative"

The dismount could be fun if when the player dismounts the reef it just keeps going until it collides with a wall or falls out of the map

Dismount would at least have an obvious control button (Since you explode mid path by shooting, dismount could just go on your Sub weapon button.)

An idea I had was for reef slider to make a wave of ink trailing it. This wave would do high but not lethal damage and have good knock back. Furthermore, you can press b to gain a little height so you can clear short ledges and blocks. I think this fits the theme as I believe it is based on a jet ski which leaves waves behind it I agree with most of your buffs but i would also include the ability to delete splash wall. I also would not have invincibility for the entire end lag so it could be punished if the user explodes in the sightlines of a good backline.

honestly at this point i genuinely think things would be better off if they just removed reefslider and gave triple splashdown to every weapon that got slider. i really don’t see a point in having reefslider exist in the same game as triple splashdown considering they kind of have the same role as specials but triple splashdown just does everything that reefslider can do better.

You don't play rank obviously, i cannot tell you how powerful and annoying reef is to play against outside of Turf. Tri Splash Down is beyond overpowered but it is only a get out of jail card or super jump attack but besides those 2 scenarios it is a poor man's booyah bomb. Your mindset is why Splatoon 3 sucks so bad, none of oh you actually address the real problems and only want quick fixes while we need MASSIVE reworks and nerfing or to make everything else overpowered. Splatoon 3 is losing players for a reason and I will bet you that the new holiday players will quit too because of how garbage the mp is

My idea is that when it explodes the player is shot hit in the air (high as an ink jet) and can use their weapon to attack players near. They will also still be invincible and will only turn back to regular HP when they hit the ground. I would also give the explosion the ability to break bombs. Dismounting would work like the explosion where you would be launched in the air and can attack with invincibility until you hit the ground

an idea that i've had for a while now is giving it 3 paths in total, the original path with 2 others on either side about a 45 degree angle from the original path, and during the specials startup you could choose which path you want by pressing the up, left or right arrows. the 2 new paths could even start in the middle of the original path 🤷this would keep the predictable nature of the special while make it a little more unpredictable, and i think it would be enough to move it up a tier 👍

O honistly think the only change they need to make to reefslider is remove end lag, it will make it an entry tool where u can survive to it, and its already kind of easy to dodge since its just one explotion that will be blocked by any small terrain so i dont think the redius of paint or explotion needs to be redused, even if it can instacap zone, i dont think keeping that will make it so good its meta, that thing only works on some maps on one mode, its fine

This special would be waaaay better if there wasn't a huge announcement to the map when ur using it. I say keep the audio, lose the lines. I'd rather the explosion be 2-3 times bigger but loses lethality, 40-60 dmg. Speed overall needs an increase, the start-launch-explo should be 4 secs in total. Sp3 is very movement oriented and swim speed up is almost a requirement. The lethality can come from oneshotting anything the slider touches as it travels. It'll be a niche but useful option since most reef weapons are close range. Overall, reef should primarily be a bully. Slide in to take out immobile targets, or crash team fights giving ur side instant paint and forcing enemy reposition. I really dislike all the proposed changes I hear about this special. Too many ppl are more focused on not making things broken than they are making stuff good. Stop cucking reef slider by trying to make sure you don't die after using when instead we should focus on it actually doing something... other than cheering zones or zooming away from danger.

Most weapons have a combo they can pull off with slider's outer ring, though. Aero has fizzy, dapples have torpedo rolling, undercover can whip it's shield out... etc. The issue is nobody can actually do that because the endlag is completely unbearable. It COULD do things and allow you to force yourself into positions the enemy team is trying to keep you out of, the problem is that they won't LET IT do things like that.

Here's the thing, Reef is great you all just suck with it. But the real issue isn't Reef, it is the fact that the devs keep overpowering everything from weapons to specials and have ZERO idea how to actually balance the game. I personally feel we need MASSIVE nerfs and reworks across the board from entire weapon classes, to even a sub or 2. But as far as I've seen these talentless devs will ONLY keep making everything op so to give an OP balance to this awful game, everything needs to be overpowered. Hel, snipers and long range are ONLY as dominate as they are is due to bad map design. Idk what game the rest of you are playing but reef riders are an EXTREMELY annoying on Ranked, but Turf not so much. Like I said, we either need MASSIVE nerfs or make everything else overpowered
