My first playthrough, I decided from the get-go that I wanted to be a charming, libertarian desperado who dresses the part and exclusively uses pistols. Speech checks were my bread, critical hits were my butter. Very immersive. Great game.

I always end up creating the same character. A former NCR soldier (sometimes sniper, sometimes door-kicker) who actually failed first recon school, but learned enough. He decided to leave the military and given that he learned a lot about land nav, and was also used to walking a lot from his time inthe army, after a long and hard transition back to Civilian life (if you never went through it, it sucks) he discovered that being a courier made a lot of sense

One of the best playthroughs I ever had in FNV was as a supernatural character. He actually did die when Benny shot him, he was sent back as an avenging angel against all evil doers. It turned out quite well. As far as style, basically just a guns build who could kick ass with hands as needed. Also, anybody can throw a grenade/dynamite stick.

I'm currently modding my New Vegas for an amnesiac Frumentarii. Working as a Courier to cover his service to Caesar, until Benny put him in a shallow grave and left him without his experience, but retaining his cunning and veiled ideals.

One of the hardest characters I ever made to do just to play with was an outlaw that was more "ex-powder ganger." The idea being that while they were an outlaw, disagreed with the powder ganger's almost psychotic ways and lived and raided on their own. This playthrough was difficult because I didn't want to outright murder carelessly if I could avoid it, but I also didn't want to help NCR at all. Without The Living Desert and Robbable Caravans mod, plus their various patches for other mods that add traffic to the mojave, this playthrough would have been dead barely by the time i reached the Strip

My last character was a former NCR soldier who became a courier after her discharge from the army. Her focus was with Guns and Explosives, specially service rifles, carbines, machine guns and granade launchers. She was a "lead spewer goes brrrr" type. I've done all the NCR quests with this character, since she still considered herself as an NCR citizen and wanted to help the Republic and the people who livens in it. However, her journey in the Mojave showed that holding the Hoover Dam was draining resources and lives of its citizens in an unfrutiferous campaign that was only trully serving to bolster the political demagogues's campaigns and to enrich the Bramin Baron elite even further, and she specially despised General Oliver. At the very end of the run she used the almost forgotten Platinum Chip to install Yes Man into the Lucky 38's mainframe to win the 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam for herself and kick the NCR out of the Mojave. That decision was for her, better for both the common folk of the NCR and New Vegas (also, she loved throwing Oliver off the Dam as a payoff for his misconduct as a General).

I always liked building my character around what faction I planned to join. For example in my NCR run I play a guy who grew up in the NCR and his parents were sharecroppers. Ultimately moving out to Nevada out of guilt after he accidentally let his brother get kidnapped by Super Mutants for the Master’s army (he is old). While he has his doubts about the NCR’s effectiveness he still thinks they’re the best option mainly due to nostalgia and trying to make things better. He still comfortably ignores a lot of their flaws and justifies it with a “well nothing is perfect”. Meanwhile for my independent run I’m playing a pre-war teenage ghoul. She lived in Sacramento during the Great War and that day was her homecoming dance. She lost basically everything during the war and has lost a lot of her morals living out in the wastes. Preferring to act on impulse because any day could be her last. Because of her experience she hates any form of organized government, her reasoning being if they grow to the same size as the pre-war government, who’s to say that the Great War can happen again, and again, and again. I’m planning to do a House run next. I don’t know about doing a Legion one because I’m not exactly a fan of the faction, even during an evil run.

As a role player I think someone that has been shot in the head would be a perfect role play for someone that has brain damage so speech isn’t very good and aggression is a key role from brain damage from the gunshot wound. Someone with brain damage has trouble with speech and empathy (I guess depends on the extent of brain damage) but I imagine someone who has the means to kill someone would shoot someone in the forehead for maximum effect of brain damage and death. This kind of brain damage affects someone’s ability to make choices in the prefrontal cortex. As the orbital frontal cortex has been compromised from the gun shot wound the character will know and understand the rules but be unable to exert control over their behavior making them unpredictable and looking for high risk and high reward scenarios. Therefore luck will be a high factor for this play through. I also imagine memory being affected as the prefrontal cortex compensates for the lack of dopamine connections it will depend on a memory storage that is based on high reward as well. Which leads to a revengeful and aggressive player in this role play. Not caring for the outcome of their choices is key, so choosing the right dialogue and conditions is key for this playthrough. Of course a lot of mistakes will be made and not learning from these mistakes is essential for this role play through. When the orbital frontal cortex is affected this is the result; high risk high reward, understanding the rules but unable to exert control, aggression, depression even, lack of empathy and caring, even a learning disability. So as a courier in a post apocalyptic world I imagine the characters base skill with weapons with pistols as pistols would be the most Accessible and they don’t really require a lot of training to maximize a full affect on ability. Perhaps the courier was also a small bounty hunter to double profit if it came across someone that is wanted they would also weigh the reward of someone dead that is wanted and take care of the problem for a profit without means of Extravagant resources.

Currently on my second character using an unarmed build named kaz, inspired by both kazuma kiryu and kazuhira miller from mgs. He looks like kiryu but wears the first recon beret and sunglasses. His stats are: (No implants yet) Strength 8 Perception 7 Endurance 7 Charisma 1 Intelligence 1 Agility 7 Luck 9 His backstory is that when he was younger, he found tapes of Rocky Marciano. So he decided to take up fist fighting and he got good at it. Eventually participating in bareknuckle fights for caps. Eventually he wanted to traverse the wasteland more so he became a courier. While he isn’t the smartest, he makes up for it with his brute strength and his kind heart.

RPG's are best enjoyed when you don't self-insert; instead of making decisions based on what YOU would do, make decisions based on what your character would do. Self-inserts are fine for first runs, when you don't know what to expect, but you miss out on so much if you just limit yourself to one character - yourself - instead of placing yourself in the shoes of someone else: an outlaw, a legionnaire, a businessman, a former Enclave soldier burying his past, a pacifist who's seen too much brutality, the possibilities are almost endless. The whole point of things like stats, gear, and differing quest outcomes is that they can fit multiple different character types and arcs. I think my favorite run was a pacifist run, where I had no combat skills, never touched a weapon, but let companions do all the fighting for me. High charisma not because charisma is a good stat, but because it fit the character. To enjoy an RPG is to resist the urge to "optimize the fun out of it."
@lordtea7688
@lordtea7688 9 месяцев назад
The pure charisma, non-combat runs are something that is really missing from most RPG's. Arcanum did that REALLY well, where your charisma influence how many companions you may have. You might be a brutish warrior with 1 or 2 companions or if you have super high charisma you may just walk around looking goegeous (there are clothes that inscreases your beauty and charisma but have 0 armor) with an army of servants mopping up the floor for your majestic character.

My current character is a 40's and 50's type of gangster, who wears pre-war clothing (usually a suit and a hat), mainly uses weapons suitable for the role (pistols, SMGs, etc) and who is a bit of selfish bastard. He helped Joe Cobb take over Goodsprings and assisted the Powder Gangers against the NCR. He's done drug runs for the Khans and latest job was pulling off the heist of the century: Sierra Madre and all its gold. He also works as a spy and a saboteur for Caesar's Legion. He helped the captured Centurion to escape and blew up the monorail. Not a very nice man. His name? Johnny Gunn.

Mine is also Johnny (no last name). He's just a wasteland survivalist and scavenger. He makes almost all of his caps from selling salvaged items and ingredients to various merchants around the region. He doesn't like to fight but will if he has to, and prefers his trusty Varmint rifle, his dirty 10mm pistol, and a few sticks of dynamite. Johnny's main strength is being sneaky followed by having pretty decent intelligence. He grew up reading tons of pre-war books and magazines.

I’m thinking about getting back into New Vegas and have an idea for a character. Here it goes: A middle aged cowboy/mercenary turned Courier for some extra coin. He’s not a tank, but he’s decently tough, perceptive, and most importantly fast as lightening. As a Mercenary, he will be working for Mr. House as he pays well and our “Hero” wants to buy into House’s vision but he’s been deceived before. He knows the corruption in the NCR heard of the brutality of the legion. But he’s has a soft spot for folks just trying to get by and occasionally is known to help folks for nothing in return. His name is Leto. Leto Ford and this is his story.

My current playthrough I'm playing as Angel Eyes from the good the bad and the ugly. Pistols, intimidation, will take jobs from all sides as long as the caps are good and no matter what, if I take a job I always see it through. But I also had a lot of ideas of what I wanted to do. Go here with this companion, go there with this other one. But after buying out Cass for the Crimson Caravan I saw a kindred spirit so all my plans have gone out the window and I'm ride or die with Cass. This time around when Cass said she wanted revenge I didn't talk her out of it. Bye Crimson Caravan, bye Van Graffs. and Cass will be there with me when we finally take out that mother fucker who shot me in the head.

My character Lucas Night is the son of a NCR Ranger who retired and now owns a successful ranch. He grew up with hired hands, stories of his father’s ranger days, and hard work. He enlisted into the military but wasn’t able to pass ranger training. Feeling like a failure not able to live up to his father’s reputation he didn’t reenlist and became a courier. Over the course of the game he becomes idolized by the NCR, and convinces Chief Hanlon to stop falsifying intelligence reports and get serious about fighting the legion. When NCR Rangers and Troopers see this courier in Black Armor, they don’t question if he’s earned it or not. For build it’s very simple. I play with Jsawyer ultimate with further weight edits so ammo and everything has weight. I carry a rifle and a revolver and a knife, this starts as a .357 revolver, a kitchen knife, and a varmint rifle, this upgrades to a cowboy repeater and the unique lucky .357, then I use hand loaded JHP ammo with these until upgrading to Medicine Stick, Chance’s Knife, and a Ranger Sequoia. Tag skills are guns, melee weapons, and speech with a fourth in survival from the Tag perk. For perks I play with sweet six shooter’s perk overhaul and add on and go through the cowboy weapons tree starting with “Cowboy” then “Handgun Hotshot”, “Desperad, and “Sweet Six Shooter”. There’s also the “that’s not a knife” and “this is a knife” melee perks along with piercing strike. Since I’m using slower revolvers and lever guns I also need rapid reload and QuickDraw to complete the build combat wise. Hand Loader is the chosen crafting perk and this built utilizes hand loaded ammunition for maximum efficiency. You don’t want to have to use a bunch of ammo on one target cause you’ve got 8 rounds in medicine stick and 5 in your sequoia with a knife for backup. I do play with the FO4 survival damage option turned on in Jsawyer ultimate so all incoming damage is doubled while mine is multiplied by 1.5. I also utilize Toughness perk, and light touch which enhances your ability with light armor. I use Riot Gears Rebalanced mod which makes the riot armors classified as light armor with a DT of 12 (desert ranger and elite riot have a DT of 16) to better blend with my build and it helps keep my carry weight down.

I think my favorite character I've made was a machine cultist from a tribe out west that had conflict with and was ultimately displaced by the NCR. He believed robots to be more or less divine, and when he found Yes Man he did what he could to read between the lines and do the things Yes Man implies he wants you to do, like wiping out the brotherhood and khans and leaving the white gloves alone. And of course he made Primm Slim sheriff too. Lot of grievances with the NCR for obvious reasons, but didnt like the Legion either, especially after Caesar asked him to essentially commit blasphemy by blowing up the securitron army.

not sending this as a criticism, but I found an interesting thing that you didn't mention was the addition of rulesets to follow. I'll give you examples of what I mean, using made up names cause I don't remember some of the ones I did use. keep in mind that I did not play base game, my game was modded to hell one character was Kat. she can't fight. she's skilled with repair, medicine, speech, and barter. SPECIAL was 7-4-4-10-10-1-4. tags medicine repair speech. traits good natured and skilled. the rule for this character is to never upgrade combat skills. had a mod in that gave a trait where you start with two raider companions but you get shunned by every major faction, so I chose that. it was a lot more challenging and interesting to play this character in FO3, as I had to get a lot more creative there without immediate companions second one I'll call Scott. I came up with this because I hate the NCR and I wanted to have something that contrasts with various things about them in meaningful ways, while also involving me in things I don't normally do. it gets weird but I'll try to explain because that's kinda what the ruleset was. so for example, NCR fights from a distance, Legion fights up close. NCR is mostly moral with some immorality mixed in, Legion is immorality that believes it's justice. NCR are "the good guys" who do bad things and Legion are "the bad guys" who do evil things. NCR is trying to civilize the land, Legion is trying to break it and bend it to its will. soo... Scott battles at close range. he's not "kinda immoral" he's completely immoral and doesn't give a shit about any notions of justice. he's a bad guy doing bad things for "the good guys". he's not trying to civilize shit, he's breaking up whatever the NCR is willing to pay him for. despite the fact that he goes close range, he's not militaristic like the Legion, so he's just wearing a grimey business suit, a hat, and sunglasses. drinks a lot of scotch because that's the profligate's way. never cured the addiction. in fact, I had a ritual with this guy where before I started a confrontation, I'd down a bottle right there and imagine breaking the bottle on the floor before laying people the fuck out. never did finish that guy, but that scotch thing was my shit third one I did wasn't on Fallout at all but in Skyrim. let's call her Ria. Ria was a khajiit sneak thief. real original, I know. thing is, with her, I resolved to kill an innocent every few days. it was interesting, until... game fucking broke, to where even if I got away with it, killed all witnesses, that somehow guards knew I did it or people in a town I'd head off to were all hostile to me trying to kill me. that bummed me out

Irrelevant pedantic comment - a .44 Magnum is 0.44 of an inch, not a metric thingy. And they say they don't use metric in the USA.. No, they just bastardise Imperial to avoid it. Aaanywho, so a ".50 Cal" is our 12.7mm, .44 Magnum in particular is our 10.9x33mmR. The Grenade Launcher uses a 40mm shell, so maybe something like the (irl) Hawk MM-1 but in Lucky's hands could work, if a little Team Fortress-y. Slip of the tongue I'm sure but the idea of the original Lucky Luke's stringy arms carrying a 44mm revolver made me chuckle. Dragging it along the ground behind him.. A little, perhaps useless advice for newer players - as we get rooms and use homes around the wasteland for bases and stash - regardless of which character we're roleplaying (give or take), try to have a container for weapons and outfits, unique or otherwise, that don't really work for your current character and then once every 10-20 or 20-30 hours have a look at what characters you can build out of the accumulated loot. With over 100 unique weapons, we can create a ton of characters by working backwards from the items to the character, as opposed to forwards from the character to the various items and choices we have them make. Similar with Perks - when you're around level 25 and again before you finish - have a look through the perks that are available but that you haven't taken and you'll likely find a few characters there as well as a few more in the Perks that 'this' character build hasn't even unlocked. Nearly everything is viable, it's just how we approach it.

One thing I love about playign modded New Vegas is that because the Courier's backstory is unkown you could play this with stats modded to however you want using console commands or a set BAT file for quicker entering of commands. I like to play this game with the Courier already a high level badass with all stats and perks maxed out, let's just say he's been through some shit (EIther Tale Of Twi Wastelands and being the Lone Wanderer from Fallout 3, or player from New California mod) and Benny got lucky catching him with most of his gear stored in Goodsprings . What makes you think that Skyrim is "shallow"?, especially when you praise Morrowind, a game that has quite broken and simplistic mechanics, not to mention that most of the quests do not have different decisions to make, nor do they usually impact to the world, just like in Skyrim.
@lordtea7688
@lordtea7688 9 месяцев назад
*Mechanically* shallow. It is, if you learn how the mechanics work in Morrowind contrary to Skyrim you'll see that there is far more to it than just "numbers go up". The "Magic" system in Skyrim is... it's just broken, i recommend watching PatricianTV's vids on it (if you have time) because barely any reviewers (or even players) play pure magic in Skyrim to know how broken and unplayable it is. And I don't know what decision impact the world on Skyrim, i have my share of 1k hours in it, i have yet to find any meaningfull decisionmaking. Morrowind have plenty of different ways to finish a quest, the game does not give you questmarkers to know this, you need to figure it out for yourself (which there are plot clues scattered around)
@void9399
@void9399 9 месяцев назад
@@lordtea7688 From what I see, you don't have any kind of argument, you're just making the gratuitous claim that Morrowind's system is "complex" and that Skyrim's magic system is broken. I hope you don't think Morrowind's system is "complex" simply because the PC does equations behind the scenes, since what's important is what the player experiences. And as I said at the beginning: Morrowind's system is extremely simplistic, possibly one of the most simplistic I've seen in any RPG, not to mention completely broken. It handles a circular logic that breaks with several skills due to its combination with the random die, and therefore makes it extremely tedious to raise these skills, such as block. I don't need to watch a video like that because I've played all the games and know their strengths and weaknesses very well. At no point did I say that you have important decisions in Skyrim, what I told you is that Morrowind also lacks important decisions to make. Almost all of their missions are fetch quests that lack different paths to complete them, and they also do not usually have an impact on the world. Hahaha, Morrowind has different ways to complete quests? Are you being serious? Can you tell me what are all the ways you can complete the Fighters Guild mission where they send you to kill Dura gra-Bol? As far as I know, your only option is to kill her. What are the different options you have for the House Redoran mission in which you are sent to kill Gordol? What options do you have when the Thieves Guild sends you to kill Sjoring Hard-Heart? And I can go on like this all day. The reality is that most Morrowind quests lack different options to complete them, just like Skyrim.

If you truly are interested in those questions instead of creating a comment drama (which based on your reply i see you are) i recommend watching patricianTV vids on it, he delves really REALLY deep into both games and he did a much better job answering does questions that i ever would.

@@lordtea7688 In that case, perhaps you should avoid making claims in your videos that you can't defend. And like I said before, I don't need to watch those kinds of videos because I know the games very well. I don't need to watch videos that only glorify Morrowind to gather views and make easy money. And it's not a matter of generating drama, it's simply a matter of seeing if you can defend your claim. Apparently many fans can't make videos about Morrowind without shitting on Skyrim. A shame, because your Morrowind roleplay video is simple but good, so I assumed it would be a more neutral channel, but I see it's the same regurgitation of: "Morrowind good and Skyrim bad." It's a pretty misguided and worn-out narrative. Anyway, good luck with your channel.

@@iceicebabie I'm just being pessimistic tbh. Personally I view fallout 4 and 76 as being totally divorced from the rest of the series.

It used to get a lot of money but Fallout 76 was a disaster not only creativly and in terms of PR but financially as well. I don't think Bethesda will be brave enough to put another fallout game anytime soon. Also, profitable =/= high quality

@@lordtea7688 to me personally, fallout is dead. I can't imagine there will ever be another one worth playing.

I have a character who's lore is a bit of a stretch, but would still make sense in fallout's semi-serious world, she's an army reserve who was cryogenically frozen so the U.S. could have a cleanup crew incase the chinese wanted to fuck around and find out (spoiler alert, they found the fuck out) but the vault she was stored in had a core malfunction, leading to all the reserves being unfrozen, so she and a volunteer (who totally isn't Boone in combat armor I promise don't hurt me) decided to see what all happened, and they came up with a plan to be couriers, this would help them learn what happened, each new civilization, and who key figures were.
